Body in white
I know this might seem like a dumb question but I am curious to know the awnser anyways. Why is it prefered to build a car that was white from the factory? It seems like alot if not most paint the car another color anyways so why is the original white body better?
Thanks Rob |
Re: Body in white
The term "body in white" refers more to an assembly line produced vehicle that has been run through the auto maker's production process and lines selectively omitting processes and components such as sound deader, seam caulking, sealers, adhesives, waterproofing materials, undercoating, etc. The mindset is to construct a car that usually winds up 100 - 200 lbs lighter without any sacrifice or omitting of components. Although many "body in white" vehicles constructed in the 60's were primered off white, the thickness and quality of the paint job was usually substandard from production line standards. I have seen assembly line "bodies in white" that were other production colors, but most factory assembly teams produced these vehicles in batches and primer white was the dominant color resulting.

Was a 95,96, or 97 camaro or firebird available in "body in white" and if so how would you go about proving it came from the factory this way I am looking at a Firebird that is claimed to be built from a "body in white" and want to try to verify some of the sellers statements before flying out to look at / purchace it Thanks for your help Rob |
