Unbelievable, in the final 3 years in a row, but this time you earned the Iron Man!

Great Job Greg, must have been the C-12.

Now you just have to get both cars home!

Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!
George

Re: Congratulations Greg Gay Stock winner-Epping

Thank you all for the kind words. They say that to win a national event, you need to get one lucky break. I got too many to list this weekend. First off, thanks to Don Little for building me a good, consistent combination. Thank you to my father for bringing the Super Bee to Epping on the open trailer, and the Mirada back home (I'm not equipped to move two cars). And thank you to Nancy for putting up with all this.

My first lucky break occurred when Jim Boudreau, who I was scheduled to run heads up, broke his engine. We were scheduled to run heads up, and I was .6 slow. George tells of his misfortune elsewhere on here.

My second lucky break occurred when Don Moulton gave me just enough room to squeek by another heads up race by .018, even though I had the slower car by two tenths of a second. For those who don't know Donny, you can find his name listed as #1 Best Package in Stock Eliminator at Maple Grove.

Thank you to Elroy Dame for comparing notes with me on the Six Pack cars, allowing me to realize my car was running slower than it should. Thank you to George Mirza, Howard Hogg, Len Abrahmson, Blair McDonald, Phil (I've only known him for 20 years, but I can't think of his last name. He owns the former W.A. Lee/Boudreau Chevelle station wagon Stocker), Todd Boyer (a big Mopar fan and Class Racing fan from Canada), and Bob Salemi for helping me to drain the C-10 out and put the C-12 in. However, when I did so, the fuel line has a "hump" in it over the rear end before it enters the fuel pump. Once the tank was empty, the fuel pump couldn't pick up the gas. So, I had to go into town to find a vaccuum pump to borrow to suck the gas through! That allowed me to close the gap with Donny to a tenth.

Then, I pulled the bonehead of the race move. Right after the third round in the Super Bee, I showed up at the water box with no helmet and no jacket in the Mirada. Thank you to IHRA for giving me 5 minutes to run back to my trailer. Anyone who knows me knows that I'm too fat to run across the street without getting winded. Thank you to Dusty Lowell for giving me a ride back to the car on his golf cart. Only, we almost ran over a spectator, and an official was right there to see it. I got to make the run, but I guess they really reamed Dusty out. Sorry Dusty!

Thank you to Tim White, as well, for waiting. So anyway, I throw that jacket on, scramble into the car, do the burnout, and I am all fired up and I'm still huffing and puffing from running, and feeling like a fool for doing this in front of the whole world. I come out of the water, and there's Bob Unkefer pushing down with his hands in mid air and mouthing the words, "Calm down". I took a big, deep breath, let it out slowly, staged, and went .009. Thank you, Bob.

Well, this message is getting long, so I had better end it, but that only describes the first three rounds. What a great weekend!

Congrats Greg, you earned it. BTW keep the Mirada out of L or else.
