Hurricane Travel
First Great Job by Charlie and Bucky in the Shoot Out. This storm should have been named Charlie cause it looks like the baddest ever. I am leaving in a few minutes hopefully going north on I55 and going East on US98 or US84 over to Hattiesburg or Laurel Miss. If anyone know of a safe place to park a 41' conversion for a few days only (I hope). The storm seems to center on Houma, LA with predicted surge of 18 to 25'. I have myself and my wife and my mother in law (age 92) with me as well as a couple of dogs. I have never run from a hurricane in my 64 years, but this one looks bad. My cell phone is 985-804-6161. Anyone coming South, I 49, I 55, I 59 and all flowing north only (contraflow) for today until the storm passes.

Any southern racers still at Indy....if you need some place to come and park your rig..B&B Race Cars has plenty of room. Our town is Hohenwald,Tn and we are 65 miles SW of Nashville. Pretty country on the Natchez Trace and plenty of safe parking. Call the shop or my cell if you need more info. 931-796-7783 shop or 225-405-8989 cell. We will be glad to help.

Re: Hurricane Travel
Good Luck Jeff. I hope the fine folks in Houma coma out OK with this storm.
The trip back from Indy was a killer, with only two blow-outs. It took us 20+ hours to make it home. Would you believe no one had a 235x80r 16 trailed tire. After stopping at numerous tire stores in Indiana, Ky, Tn, AL and Ms, no one had a tire. We did buy a used tire in northern Alabama for $30.00 and drove 50 mph to get home. The car and trailer are parked in Covington with no trees around. I will be leaving for work into the New Orleans area and I'm told to expect to stay for quite sometime. During Katrina I stayed away from home for 15 days straight. Take Care |
Re: Hurricane Travel
Best wishes to all of you in the path of this storm.

Re: Hurricane Travel
Jeff, I don't know where you're headed but you are more than welcome here in KY. I have a place for your motorhome and we could tour the neighboring distilleries. Stay safe and let me know if I can be of any help.

Re: Hurricane Travel
The rain is now starting to fall in Gonzales, LA (across the river from No Problem Raceway). I guess Gustav is knocking on our door step. Hopefully this thing keeps it's relatively fast pace and won't stay around for long. I have to ride this one out at work but, managed to send the wife and kids off to Arkansas yesterday; thank God. Seems as though this will be a bad storm. Other than being inconvienenced, I hope everyone ends up OK. Take care everyone.
