EVENT PREVIEW July 17-20


For the 4th stop of the 2008 season, the NMRA Keystone Automotive Ford Nationals and the NMCA Edelbrock Hot Rod & Muscle Car Nationals will converge for the 3rd Annual Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing. What a better place to hold such an event as Route 66 Raceway? Known as the first true “Stadium of Drag Racing,” Route 66 Raceway a multimillion-dollar complex including a 30,000 seat stadium-style drag strip with 27 luxury suites and will be home to this monumental street legal drag racing event.

Fans from all over the country will travel to Joliet to see the top names of the NMRA battle it out with those of the NMCA for the Super Bowl titles. So whether you are a rabid Ford fan or a muscle car fanatic, this race will keep you on your toes all weekend. On top of the dual drag racing events, we will have two separate car shows, a tire smokin’ burnout contest, a monster swap meet and the most comprehensive vendor midway of the season. Calling all street legal drag racing fans, “Get your Kicks on Route 66”!

I attended this race last year and had a blast. I will be back this year, too. We will be running coverage in Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords magazine and I'm pretty sure Popular Hot Rodding and a few others will be there, too. It is some of the best heads-up drag racing and bracket racing. The cars are amazing (all brands of awesome cars) and cool people.

Was a great race last year, but let's don't get all you killer NHRA guys out there to pick on us old men and take our money. Seriously, NMCA racing is big fun. Look forward to seeing everyone.

If you like exciting racing then this is the place to be mid July. The Guiness book of records will be set again as there will be 33 (yes 33) final rounds run on Sunday. You will se .5 full trees run against .4 pro trees in the same race (split tree). There will be the True Street that runs on Saturday where the competitors have to drive thirty miles on a highway cruise (means they have to be truley street legal with insurance, license and inspections) then make three time trials back to back without opening the hood. The winner of this class will have to run mid eights to capture the title and maybe quicker if all of the real street kings show up. There will be mid to low six second runs in Pro Street and Outlaw 10.5 classes. If you like good old fashioned Drag Racing then come on to Route 66 for the best show of the year. With over 400 cars attending, the Super Bowl of Drag Racing has something for everyone.
