Canadian Leaded Fuel Exemption
The exemption for the use of leaded race fuel in Canada has been extended to January 1,2010.
While this is good news this appears to be the last extension that will be given. The government wants to deal with this once and for all - either with a lifetime exemption like the aircrafts have or with the implementation of the ban. It will still take a organized effort with support from NHRA IHRA and maybe SEMA to press for the lifetime exemption. It sounds like a committee will be formed to look into the long term resolution this fall. Stay tuned Kevin Love SS 5666 |
Re: Canadian Leaded Fuel Exemption
We should simply implement the same ban on leaded fuel at the exact same time as the U.S. does. That way we will keep our tracks open.

Re: Canadian Leaded Fuel Exemption
They did mention that they are aware that the sanctioning bodies are in the US.
The problem we have is our environmental groups seem to have a loud voice with the government They are trying to implement things such as California emission standards for all new Canadian cars so status quo with the US may not be enough. At some point NHRA may have to look at something long term as NASCAR has switched to unleaded fuel in the Sprint Cup series. That will at some point make it a tough arguement why drag racing hasn't switched. This is why we need support from NHRA etc. |

The extension was signed last Thursday |
This is positive news, but
so much for the last "confirmed" rumour of it being a 5 year, done deal. As racers, we need to stay on top of this, because 2 seasons will be gone in a flash. Thanks to all who lent their support from both sides of the border.
