GT Class: Cold/Ram Air Hoods?

I'm looking for my rule book, but maybe somebody has page and verse handy. What is rule regarding cold air or ram air hood usage in superstock GT class?

If a body style came with a cold air or ram air hood, but the motor being used did not, how is the rule applied? What is determining factor if the hood can be used?

Slightly confused....

I don't think you will see anything specific in the rule book regarding that but
to my knowledge, if the engine combo was available with a cold air system (cowl hood / ram air) etc, then you can leave it as cold air in the GT car. If the engine combo did not come w/ a ram air system then you are supposed to block the venting in the hood.

I will be interested in finding if it has to be blocked. I'm in the process of building a GT car with a factory hoodscoop and I ran the plan past Jim Collins and he said it was legal if the car is in the class giude as a hoodscoop car.

I believe Angelo's explanation is correct. Using the 90's Firebirds an an example, the FI LT-1's in SS/IA are allowed the ram-air. But, the same car with, say, a '69 350/295 motor in a SS/GT class would not be allowed to use the ram air hood, or the snorkles would have to be blocked.

Hope your wrong but who knows. As I read it in SS it states "Hood openings and/or hood scoops other than original equipment prohibited." Then for GT it states at the begining of the class "Requirements and specifications for GT class are the same as those for Super Stock classes - Section 10A - with the following exceptions." No exceptions listed for anything related to hood or scoops. I took that to mean if the body was originally equipped with a scoop it could be run in GT. As I said above, I had this confirmed by Jim Collins last year before I started in the car.

Won't really matter to me because I think the motor I will run was available with or without the shaker hood and the HP is the same.

Re: GT Class: Cold/Ram Air Hoods?

Remember all the advantages of a GT car? This is one of the disadvantages.

We used to have one rating for Ram Air and a different rating for non ram air. It all of a sudden one day disappeared for SS. It is still there in Stock class.

My question are:

1.) What Super Stock rules eliminate the credit for non-ram air, but necessitate it for Stock class? Do they want the GT cars to pay the penalty for Ram Air even though they dont get it in most of the cars?
2.) If a GT car isnt allowed Ram Air, and the engine came with a Ram Air rating do we decrease 5HP?
3.) Many GM cars had "Fresh Air" which is plumed through the front, but not through the hood scoop, can we hook that up if the engine combo came with it?
4.) There seems to be a difference between an Open Hood and hooking up forced induction(by sealing up the RA hood with a functional air cleaner) . Cant seem to find a consistent answer, just like short decks or crank holes.
