I bought this car in 1996 and picked it up at the Winternationals in Pomona where I was runner up in class. As she sits, this car runs well, but can easily be upgraded with the fuel cell and aftermarket disk brakes since back then NHRA rules did not allow for those upgrades like they are today. In 1997, this car/driver won the Division 1 stock championship and held the National record in K/SA at that time.

This car was last raced in August 2014 at Cecil County Dragway and went .629 under in J/SA. It has been sitting ever since due to health issues with the driver. The car runs and drives, sounds very healthy and has great oil pressure. The trans and rear were redone but I do not know when or how many runs are on both as I didn’t have them done. Same with the engine as to the number of runs on it. This car will definitely go down the track but since it’s been sitting, my suggestion would be to freshen the engine, put some new tires on it and install new seat belts.

$14,000 for the car as she sits (see below). Depending on location, I can deliver or meet part way for the price of gas and tolls.

Since posting this ad, I made several updates/upgrades to the car:

• New Richmond Gear 4.86 ring and pinion, zero runs on them.
• New 1-wire Denso race mini alternator.
• Completely redid the driveshaft with new solid U-joints and new trans slip yoke from Inland Empire Driveline.
• Serviced the transmission.
• Serviced the engine with Mobil 1 oil and filter along with a new distributor cap, rotor and plugs.
• Mounted a set of Hoosier 9X30 radial slicks. 94” circumference. Not new but a lot of life left.
• Installed an Impact 5-point driver restraint system good thru June 2020.
• Installed currently mandated collector tethers.
• Completely redid the carburetor since the car has been sitting since 2014.
• I have the dyno sheet from Burtonsville Performance from when the engine was done in 2009.

I also found that the axles are the larger 35 spline axles and the trans has the low first gear installed.

With these new parts installed, I have added $500 to the asking price to cover some of the costs of the new parts that I installed, so $14,500 for the car as she sits.

I might have a guy from Florida that’s interested in your car.
He’s asking about how many runs on the rear and what condition are
All the tires ??
He doesn’t have a CR account so he’s going through me.
Thanks Ken

Re: 1978 Volare 360 stocker, I/SA or J/SA

Hi Pete. Thanks for letting me know. I just put in a new set of rear gears because I was a bit uncomfortable with the number of runs that I was told were on them so they currently have zero runs on them. I also put some Hoosier radials on the back and they have a good bit of rubber left. I did a few other upgrades but perhaps you can give your friend my email address and we can go from there.

Whenever we get back to racing my friend from down here might want to see the car
run at the track.
He will fly up, as this is what he’s telling me to tell you.
I will tell him all about the upgrades you just listed too.

Ken
My friend Scott said: Your car sounds like a great car for the money but
unfortunately he’s gonna have to pass on it for now.
He’s looking to go in a different direction.
