This past weekend the GLPTA competed as part of the 20th Annual Mopar Canadian Nationals in Grand Bend, Ontario, Canada. The folks at the Grand Bend Motorplex put on a spectacular show and the Motorplex track crew provided and excellent track surface all weekend even with the bright sunshine and warm temperatures. Our hats are off to the entire track crew for their hard work.

Hot Rod (10.90) started Saturday morning and we worked through the entire day until late in the evening 2 Canadian racers faced off in the final with Andrew Stirk getting the best of Chris VanBalen. The Bickel’s “Beautiful Loser” Award went to Rob Holden for his .013 reaction time loss in the first round.

Super Rod (9.90) was set for the third round when the curfew stopped racing and was completed on Sunday morning with Vince Gregoire’s 55 Chevy BelAire defeated Joe Ferrari’s 27 Ford Roadster in the final. The Lagos Farms “Losin’ Light” Award was given to Paul “Racer” Brown for his .016 light in his first round loss.

Quick Rod (8.90) was down to four cars when the curfew put a halt to days racing. The decision was made by the racers to “split the pot” and the money was divided by Lance Pinto, Ed Smith, George Williams and Steve Hoyt. The Caprio’s “Consolation Cash” went to “Dyno” Devin Heitzman for his .006 8.968 loss to George Williams’ .002 8.939 in the opening round, that’s a tough way to lose!

Sunday morning brought more Canadian sunshine and warmth and some great drag racing. Hot Rod (10.90) came down to a match between Welland, Ontario’s Patrick Boniferro and Kendallville, Indiana’s Craig Meyer with Boniferro taking the win.

Super Rod (9.90) saw Vince Gregoire in his second final in 2 days. Corrine MacMillan had her hands full but she was not to be denied as her 68 Camaro outran the 55 Chevy in a very close race. Imagine running 9.900 in the final on your anniversary! Congratulations to Brian and Corrine.

Quick Rod (8.90) was just as tough with Number 1 qualifier "Dyno” Devin Heitzman from Grand Rapids, Ohio took the measure of Fort Wayne, Indiana’s Steve Hoyt in the final round.

We don’t have all the time sheets for Sunday’s race, so we don’t know the winners of the reaction time awards. We are trying to follow up on this.

The Race2Win Motorsports “Perfect Light Challenge” went unclaimed on both Saturday and Sunday. Better luck next race.

The Mopar Canadian Nationals was an opportunity for the Great Lakes Pro Tree Association to show the race fans some exciting Pro Tree Racing at its finest. We would like to thank all the Canadian racers who came and raced with us. We will move on to our last stop on the 2019 tour at Dragway 42 in West Salem, Ohio on September 14-15. We look forward to seeing you there and we appreciate your support.
