Mickey PBR's VS Hoosier Radials
Morning all. Anyone done any real world testing of Mickey Thompson Pro Bracket Radials VS Hoosier Radials? When I bought my shaggin wagon it had Hoosiers on it. Worked GREAT! Anyhow couple weekends ago at a big bracket race my kids noticed a few cords showing so I went in search for a set of tires.... Thank You to Marion Stephenson for having some MT bias tires in his trailer. As expected they were slower by a ton! I figured to be .05 slower but it was AT LEAST a dime..... Needless to say they ain't staying on there. We have previous experience with the PBR's on 2 other cars and they are great and last a ton. I'm also not disappointed with less rollout offered by the PBR's as I could use a tiny lil more gear ratio. My main concern is..... if the Hoosiers are faster I don't want to leave anything on the table. Anyone do any ABA testing or have any other experiences??? Thanks in advance!
PS. I have run Hoosiers on my TS car and although they were fast and the car really liked them, they were junk after 40-50 laps. SOOO I guess durability is another question. I have no idea how many laps were on the tires on shaggy but I imagine they had quite a few seasons on em. Still worked great...even with cords showing! LOL! |

I do Know Michael Beard is real high on the PBR's Tells me they "Print" time slips. |
Re: Mickey PBR's VS Hoosier Radials
They are a great tire and deadly. We have them on our old pure stocker/footbrake car and our S/St car. I did quite a bit of chassis work back in the day and if this tire was around back them I wouldn't have done nearly as many back half jobs! Our S/St car has an alky small block and runs the 29.5 x 10 PBR and it's STUPID how good that car is.
I'm just hoping to not leave any et on the table IF the Hoosier is faster. |
Re: Mickey PBR's VS Hoosier Radials
I run Hoosier radials on my super stock car. They work great and last a full season. I have been told the Mickey's are faster but I personally have never back to backed them. I did try the mickeys at one time and I don't think they lasted like the Hoosiers.
Most stockers I see are running Hoosier. Bias to radial on my car was 0.13 each time I made the switch. |

Goodyear makes a good long lasting and fast Stock radial. Dumbo went 1.24 60' the car weighs 3415.

We run Goodyear Radials on all our Stock and Superstock cars!

Re: Mickey PBR's VS Hoosier Radials
How well do the Goodyear Radials hold air? My Mickey’s I’m lucky to get a few days but the Hoosiers can sit a year and loose zero. I have to put jack stands under the car with the Mickeys while it’s parked.

Re: Mickey PBR's VS Hoosier Radials
Sorry, I’m not referring to the Mickey pbr loosing air it’s the bias drag tire persistently going flat and that’s even with the dish soap treatments

Re: Mickey PBR's VS Hoosier Radials
I'm on my second set of Pro Bracket Radials. Completely changed how the car hooked soon as I installed them. I got over 180 runs on the first set. I brought them over to the Mickey Thompson trailer, and they asked me why I wanted new ones. I told them I had over 180 runs on them. They said if it's still 60' ok, run them till you see the cords! They have seen people get over 250 runs on them before they start going away. I bought a set just because, but I kept the old ones for spares. Great for heavy car high torque applications.

I ABA Hoosier bias to radial on my 1995 firebird and the radial was a tenth quicker
