michelin duelly truck tires-weather cracks
 

Lt235/80/r17 truck tires-bought a set of 6 about 2 years ago.sits in the driveway a lot.these tires have developed weather cracks in the sidewalls.discount tire says there is no warranty for this problem! these tires are knee deep in tread depth but it is concerning as if a tread lets go you will take the quarter panel off the truck. anybody else fight this problem?

As long as the cracks are not large enough to have a credit card slip in, you are good to go. Michelin tires are prone to weather checking, however from conversations I have had with Michelin they are perfectly safe to use. Do not put any tire dressing on these tires, it can promote more cracking

this is a common problem with Michelin tires on both truck tires and passenger tires. Any cracking affects the integrity of the tire. I have seen this on side walls and in the tread. It will fail Inspection in many states. We have failed vehicles for this. I was a tech for 50 years and a state inspector for most of that time in two states. Michelin knows of the problem, but won't address it.

My dad worked at a GM dealership for over 40 years and dealt with Michelin tires day in and day out. He said to call Michelin direct and address your concerns or he would be happy to give you advice if you wanted. PM me for his number if interested.
