"Live" from Indy 2024. 70th US Nationals

We are finally back on the road racing again! We are not quite to Indy but we are in Indiana! We should be there in about 3 hours. It has been been an ordeal to get here. Had planned to go to Bowling Green but our stacker had been parked since St Louis last year and there was a problem with the winch for the back door. Anyway 2 days later we are on our way! I have been talking with people who are on site and they say pitting is happening now. More after we get there!

As always, thanks for the reports. I will see you guys bright and early on Wednesday morning with my camera in hand. Due to some health issues, this is my first race of the year; needless to say, I am raring to go!

Nice to have you guys back, and thanks for starting the thread. its good to be back at Indy, although it looks a little different. This is the new tower, like they say a picture is worth a thousand words... Enjoy my rolling into video. I will have part 2 tomorrow, getting parked and rolling around the pits.

That seems....underwhelming, considering the 4 story tower and suites it replaced. Am I missing something?

That is a temporary tower until the new one is completed

I posted on the vid about my many experiences with I70. It got so bad at one time that to repave it, they took everything down to bare dirt and started over. Took years and there were numerous 20 mile stretches of single lane. Not sure what happened, but it looks like it's back to the old bumpy, deep groove tire tracks mess.

Re: "Live" from Indy 2024. 70th US Nationals

We arrived yesterday afternoon and have a great pit spot! Went with Mike and Barbara McMahan to supper at El Toro last night and then to Flapjacks for breakfast along with Jim and Pam Marshall this morning! You can see where my priorities lie!
Larry is getting Dumbo out to get him all shined up and then he gets new Goodyear shoes tomorrow.
We haven?t driven around the pits yet. There seems to be a steady stream of rigs arriving.

Larry and Patsy, when you see the daily schedule for stock and SS class elims, do post it.
I hope we go back to SS on Friday morning, first thing, and I sure wish stock was near first out Thursday for Class 1.

Here is the article from a few months ago

https://www.nhra.com/news/2024/nhra-...s-raceway-park

They said the new tower should be ready to go by next year's US Nationals, they are also flip flopping the pits. The Pros will be over where the sportsman park (FSS, Factory X, Pro Mod) and Sportsman will be in the old Pro Pits (Mostly Alky, Comp) in the near future.

You are not wrong there! I traveled that mess through Indiana for years and years, even today it still is one of the worst stretches of interstates in the country, and if you've got the minutes to spare, take US 40 across the state as much as you can. Your suspension will thank you.

Yes isn't the Indiana State slogan something like "Finding what you have lost". Yes right there on their Interstates. LOL. The sides of 70 from Indy to the Ohio border is littered with blown tires , compete rims with tires, trailer doors etc. I have to retighten all my interior screws and everything else that is bolted down on my trailer after trips thru that state. You will just be driving down a lane and all of a sudden there is a 6 inch drop off all the way across the road. And every State will tell you the reason the gas tax is so high is to maintain the roads. Bull ----.

It's unfortunate that Stock and Super Stock run class the same day AGAIN!
I hope the Sportsman Divisional reps attempted to fix this.

However The HEMI Challenge is a stellar field.

Also if you're an alternate be ready at the top of the lanes.
Those who fail to study history are doomed to repeat it!

One last thing, GO DUMBO GO!

Re: "Live" from Indy 2024. 70th US Nationals

Thank you, gents for sending that! I see it just came out late today.
One would think at the biggest race of the year, where action starts Wednesday morning, they would post a run schedule a tad earlier.

Not to pile on, and as you all know, I am not an NHRA basher, and regularly stick up for them on this forum, but I have to say closing the Indy gates at 18:00 on a Monday and Tuesday on an event of this caliber when racing starts Wednesday morning first thing is pretty disappointing. You have people coming from all over the country, and a lot of us, still have a real day job. You can't keep one or two minimum-wage gate attendants there until, say 9 pm, at least on Tuesday night for crying out loud!

Rant over

Why did they start running S and SS class run offs same day ?

If I recall correctly, it was around the COVID drama time. And at that time that was the reason given for the compressed schedule as I recall.
Well, its been that way every year since.
It used to be so nice to be able to take in all of the Stock class action, and have a few beers in the stands while doing so for the whole day, say if you were an SS racer, and then vice versa the following day for a stocker racer etc.

For crying out loud it's the biggest drag race of the year, it starts on a Wednesday ( and you need to get there prior to 18:00 on Tuesday, see prior rant...) and ends on a Monday, and it's now the only National Event where class is contested (other than Jegs sportsnats) and you can't friggin carve out 2 days for class racing?

Again, like I said in my earlier post, I almost always stick up for NRA, but these few things here are really hard to swallow.

They do it because the entry to the event doesn?t end till 11am PST (2pm East Coast Time)on Monday so they need to see how many cars are entered to square up how the rounds work out. Like SC&SG will be one more round then Stk & SS and Comp is one more round then normal.

Okay, so I click on NHRA TV, and it says free streaming this weekend.
Then I log in and it has Indy listed by each day. I click on Wed. and it says $24.95 for the weekend.
I go ahead and debit it. Not gonna break me , but what happened to the FREE? Anybody?

Also, we know Jim Marshall is parked next to Larry Hill with the red truck. So what class is it in , and what class is Paul Wong in then? Can't tell the players without a score card ;-)

Ken, I thoroughly enjoy your travel videos. One aspect I miss the most about racing is the travel. Regarding the drawers in the motorhome, have you considered the inside the drawer childproof latches? Might be the answer to that problem. Anyway enjoy the race, good luck, and I look forward to your upcoming videos.

Mr. Foley has his car preentered as Factory Stock E. I wonder if he's really gonna put 200 pounds in it to make weight?

Very knowledgeable you are! Thanks for the insight, but I've never seen that name " Rich Decola" on any qualifying sheets. Maybe it's another Daren CCPoole Adams racecar?

Foley is driving my COPO in FS/D at Indy.

I sold the COPO that Brooke was driving earlier this year. She is driving the Decola Camaro.

(FYI, the 6.2 is a killer FS/E combination...)

Moved to NC decades ago... Lil' Rowe drives his cars sometimes too ;-)

As I assumed, it is another DAren CCPoole Adams race car.

If the 6.2 liter is such a killer combo in FS/E then why is it in FS/D?

Brooke must be driving the 302 cubic inch combo that runnered up in class last year, it has 5 more horsepower in it's rating this year correct?
