Re: John Kunsak Race cars/parts estate sale This weekend
WOW !!! What an Amazing Collection. MB

Re: John Kunsak Race cars/parts estate sale This weekend
Wow, that's an amazing collection, but sad to see a lifetime of investment get pieced out.
Do you know how much they are pricing the cars for? |
Re: John Kunsak Race cars/parts estate sale This weekend
If you have a big block stick shift car, be there or be square. All of John's stuff is first class.
|
Re: John Kunsak Race cars/parts estate sale This weekend
No way they can sell all that stuff in two days! Someone is going to get a deal of a lifetime.
|
Re: John Kunsak Race cars/parts estate sale This weekend
Unreal!

all I know from one conversation with the estate sale woman is the vehicles will be sealed bid, and a bank holds the paper on all of them and the bank will be reviewing bids at a later date-she was emphatic no one will drive off in a vehicle even if theya re the high bid, if the money is not enough it will be a no sale and the bank will take another look. As for the Olyenik car haulers I can tell everyone the red truck is a 1976, 20 foot, the cab is rotted away at the rear mounts underneath and the engine has low compression in one cylinder. The Black truck is a 1982 I believe very nice unit-originally purchased by jim Lydon (PGH Hemi racer) with an automatic trans and 454. It currently has a 502/clark overdrive manual 5 speed/motorhome 70k rear axle with big disc brakes and a million other little things done by a man who LOVED his Chevy trucks. I have a lot of knowledge about what is there, and I also do not know a thing about a lot of what is there. I am flying in Thursday and can hopefully help a little at the sale, as it appears I know more about everything there and the man who owned them than everyone else-others (local) who knew anything died before John |
Re: John Kunsak Race cars/parts estate sale This weekend
A lifetime collection of parts and cars but it has little meaning other than $ to those left to handle our estate when we pass, it’s just stiff and it’s sale part of life.
|
Re: John Kunsak Race cars/parts estate sale This weekend
I commend you Scott for helping the family and fellow racers who might give parts of the collection a worthy home. Contrary to 660Ed’s opinion I wouldn’t dismiss John’s passion as “just stuff” and “little meaning”.

Re: John Kunsak Race cars/parts estate sale This weekend
Very cool lifetime collection of cars and parts. you can tell by watching the video that he saved everything. I was amazed by the collection of NOS blocks and heads. Lots of tools and equipment. Shelves of Richmond and DNE type transmissions. I did not know John but knew of him.

Re: John Kunsak Race cars/parts estate sale This weekend
John always had really cool cars! I remember the first time seeing the COPO at Columbus. He blistered the tires on the line and still went 9.44&144!

Re: John Kunsak Race cars/parts estate sale This weekend
My son almost ruined my Monday by sending me the video! Lol!! I spent way too much time studying it and ALMOST bought a plane ticket. After hearing about all the sealed bid bullsh!t and bank review I'm glad I didn't. Sad to see this stuff go but some peeps will get some smoking deals. If any of the blocks are sbc dart or bowtie I would be a player.
I was day dreaming about buying the whole lot. It would literally be a full time job for someone to catalog and sell it all..... but since I retired last week!!!:D:D:D |
Re: John Kunsak Race cars/parts estate sale This weekend
Fond memories looking at those haulers. I had a 76 Oleynik and it was quality built everywhere you looked. Not many interested in these at the current time with what current haulers have evolved to.
It was built with the back window removed to get into the sleeper built into the front of the box. Roof air. Hardwood floor that I always tried to not think of the weight. At the time, it was a special thing and did a great job for me. |
Re: John Kunsak Race cars/parts estate sale This weekend
John took the black truck to the next level.
Cool story at least for me. At the time we were running an 8.75 in our Max Wedge car and broke it at the Maple Grove National (#13 qualifier) and bought a new gear set at the Zoom trailer (you could do that back then) and he offered to set it it up in the black truck and we of course agreed (it's John Kunsak right?). So we're in there with the Leopolds and my group and it becomes a party (as always) meanwhile Frank Lupo is attempting to repair the transmission with a broken sprag (fruitless) so we decided to run our back up trans which was much slower. The only problem is we had to run the next round against another A/SA Max Wedge car (Unnamed) that was qualified close to ours and guess what I lighted the RED! Thanks John I love you! |

"Important Note About this Estate Sale
Our client accepted an offer from a customer in line this morning to purchase everything included in the sale. The sale has concluded since accepting the offer we apologize for this inconvenience" |
Re: John Kunsak Race cars/parts estate sale This weekend
The spokeswoman says right in the video they don't accept presale offers. This shouldn't be legal, people will have travelled a long way.The abuse this company must be hearing will be legendary, and so it should be !
|
Re: John Kunsak Race cars/parts estate sale This weekend
That's exactly why I didn't go. Was concerned there would be some shady S#it. Complete b.s. for the people that traveled there. No one was supposed to be able to do anything prior to the sale. I would never consider attending anything this company ever did in the future.

Re: John Kunsak Race cars/parts estate sale This weekend
I come a hair going to this being it was close to me (163/miles). Was really interested in the ZL1 stuff after watching the video several times.
So let me understand this. They hadn't even opened the door yet and an individual that was one of the first 30 in line made an offer before any item was sold? Did He/they just shout out a number? Maybe someone that was actually there (maybe even standing in line their self) could elaborate....... If not, I completely understand. |

Good morning everyone-I was there helping and and saw and heard everything-The people running the sale were very gracious to me as a lifelong close friend of the family. So to quote Paul Harvey-here is the rest of the story- The buyer was indeed in line, with a cashiers check made out to the operating company for a cool half million! He knew John and what was there (in general) is a local tow company owner and was really quite nice- He had tried to get the attention of the estate sale people for over a week but per their rules-NO PRE SALE DISCUSSIONS! so he arrived very early on a dark cold morning along with about 60 others and presented his offer to the sale operator-who told him she could not possibly make that decision without discussions with family and a bank who held paper of some of the items-it was the bank who hired her. Two bank representatives were on their way and she started the sale at eight as scheduled-about two dozen people came in and were let through but told they would have to hold their money until the bankers and family considered the other offer. When the family and bank reps weighed in, it was agreed one solid offer and done was good for everyone. There was some last minute negotiations as Buyer did not want one item the bank wanted to include that was not part of the sale (real estate he did not want) and it was agreed 400k and he received all offered onsite. He told me he intends to buy the house with its shops and property as well. The other thing he did do was send his brother out to the crowd before they left, took names and phone numbers and a list of what each one was interested in as he intends to continue liquidating but in a more methodical manner. He did not say, but seemed interested in keeping the copo and the Boyd car, although I am speculating on that. As he owns a tow business and a bunch of trucks, he was noncommital on whether the oly haulers were staying or going |
Re: John Kunsak Race cars/parts estate sale This weekend
Scott, would you happen to have the name and phone number of the
gentleman who purchased the estate. It will benefit the purchaser as people can let him know what items they may want, and help him liquidate those items he wants to sell. Thanks, J.R. |

Scott,
I appreciate you voluntarily explaining what actually happened for those of us that weren't there.... I too would be interested in a phone number or contact information for the buyer. Thank You. |
Re: John Kunsak Race cars/parts estate sale This weekend
" I hope that John's kids end up with some of the money that John worked all of his life for. This has been a mess from before John passed away. May God be with John and his children. Wes Leopold"
Damn Wes-- wish I had known you were there! Johns kids will be fine, they had to ok the one buyer purchase and there is still a sizeable real estate collection to be sold As an important aside, there was a court order to be fulfilled with financial specifics to protect the family-- and the bank reps, the sale operator and everyone on the inside had to function under the details of the court order-all I can say about that. The one person purchase simplified it for all of them and guaranteed protection for the family and the buyer was a nice guy who was smart about the whole thing. I agree it sucked for those standing out in the cold but it is what it is. " appreciate you voluntarily explaining what actually happened for those of us that weren't there....I too would be interested in a phone number or contact information for the buyer." buyer owns Elite towing, Cranberry Pa. His name is Dave, you could try to contact him through his business but I suspect until he has everything sorted and categorized he probably won't talk to anyone. |
Re: John Kunsak Race cars/parts estate sale This weekend
Thanks Scott. Appreciate that.

the entire thread is ridiculous. A racer died, his family decided to auction his race stuff, a guy buys the entire lot. The family is happy but a few racers aren't yet hope his adult kids get some money.

Re: John Kunsak Race cars/parts estate sale This weekend
Hello,
First of all I'd like to start this off by saying I'm John's son. I found this forum poking around google trying to find anymore info on the estate sale I could find. Scott, thank you for being there & detailing exactly what went down that morning. But I would like to highlight a few things. First being that our lawyer reached out to us about the offer from Elite Towing the day before the sale. Our lawyer informed us that the trustee didn't find it to be a good idea to accept the offer. The bank was asking the buyer to provide a guarantee from his bank stating that sufficient funds were on hand. Sadly we missed the deadline to respond to this email by 4 PM. My sister and I both work full time and saw the email late. I still chimed in saying I would of declined the offer. My thinking was the estate already paid for the prep for the sale. Might as well go through with it. Plus I know ALOT of people were traveling and just excited to go through my fathers collection. At no point the morning of the sale were we contacted about weighing in on the decision to accept the offer from Elite Towing. Like I said previously we would have much rather had the sale be open to everyone that showed up early & were excited to look through the collection. But we are not the singular beneficiaries. Due to a really messy situation another party is also involved. They very well may have been the "family" that gave the okay on the sale. |
Re: John Kunsak Race cars/parts estate sale This weekend
well there is clearly much more to this story and the reason for the auction. My experience tells me than when a trustee is involved there is a foreclosure and or bankruptcy in play. So the players are a trustee, a bank and another party, all who forced and controlled this auction.

Much more involved. No bankruptcy, no foreclosure. Just a huge web of bull****. I'd recommend not running your mouth about stuff you have no clue about. |
Re: John Kunsak Race cars/parts estate sale This weekend
I recommend you don't make threats! I don't care one way or another but being that this was posted on a public forum to generate interest, we are interested in the why and how so If there is more tell us since that's why you posted.

Hi John. Thanks for coming on here and bringing some clarity to this deal. Secondly i would like to express my condolences for the loss of your father. I did not know your dad personally but i did know of his racing. He raced down here in Florida at the Gatornationals for many years. I had several friends that raced the same combo as your dad and they competed for class bragging rights. He was a tough competitor and his car was fast. I really enjoyed watching the video of his collection leading up to the sale. He had a cool collection of cars and parts from a long career of racing in stock and super stock. I am not so different from your dad. I have a large shop that I keep my racing stuff. I do most of the work on my car myself and have lots of tools and equipment. I have things up in my loft that I have had since i was in my teens and 20's. I have to tell you my stuff is nowhere near the collection your dad had amassed over the years. I was actually thinking about your dad when i was out in my shop this weekend working on my car to get ready for the up coming season. I am 65 years old and dont have too many more years left to race I actually think you came out much better taking the single buyer deal than you would have selling piece by piece to numerous buyers. If indeed the single buyer paid 400K for the entire lot. Best of luck and I hope you get some closure to what seems to be a difficult situation. |
