Reviving TriState/East Coast Drag Racing Series.

Just raced at the Mason Dixon Weekend Stock/SuperStock Meet. It was a great weekend.

Thank you to Harry Huntzberry and Mike Bassin to getting them scheduled. Had a conversation with Harry about reviving a East Coast/Tri State Series.

We shared a few ideas.
I run the ECIRS Series - East Coast Impala Racing Series. Most of our races are Division 1 tracks. We have about 12 races and some tracks allow us to run twice on same day. Getting in a lot of runs.

Wanted to find what ideas you have and who wanted to help.
Do stuff we wish NHRA would do.

Suggested Tracks!!!
Maryland Tracks:
Mason Dixon, Cecil County, Capitol, MIR
Pennsylvania:
Beaver Springs, Numidia, Maple Grove, Island Dragway
VIrginia:
Virginia Motorsports Park

Would like to lock in dates for 3-4 years.
Can schedule 2 or more race dates with one track.

Wanted to make improvements.
Such as having Heads Up Grudge races.
Any 2 cars any 2 classes. Side betting fine.
Grudge Race between to classes running off the Indexes.
Setting Track Records at each of the Tracks.

Develop a Point Program.
Team up with CCRA at VMP for a Challenge Race.

Work Social Media and Newspapers to bring in specators.
Parts Trade Buy and Sell.

What do you think?
Post your feedback.

Good morning Dan,
Would you be interested in running a Stock/ Super Stock Race at a nice 1/8 mile facility?
South Mountain Raceway would like to get a race together for there track.
The track is located in Boiling Springs Pa., and Mike works extra hard to make sure the traction is top notch. If you would like to PM me I'd be more then glad to try to get something going with you and your Group.
They are a NHRA Sanctioned facility.

Respectfully,
Henry Kunz 1534 H/SA

I think before another series takes over the Northeast tracks, it would be nice to see what is going happen with the East Coast Stock Super Stock Association. Dave's races were run very well and pretty well attended at Atco, and I am hoping the series will still go on even with the loss of Atco.
I've heard some rumors about the series continuing, but I have no idea if it was just water cooler talk.
Now that there are schedules out, maybe there will be announcement on the direction of the ECSSA series.

Who won Mason/Dixon on the 5th? First time I wasn’t there in a number of years.

Herbie Null driving one of Troy Huntzberry's SS Camaro's went red against Larry Mohar in his stocker.

Good afternoon Duane and to all,
I agree with you wholeheartedly, this was something Mountain Mike would like to add. I'm not a promoter, just a racer but Mikes a Great guy and would like to have a Stock/ Super Stock race at his track. Not trying to shuffle off Dave Ley, in fact if Dave would like to contact me or Mike that would be fine also. I enjoyed racing at Dave's races and look forward to any other races that Dave would put together. But at the same time I feel compelled to try to do something for us Stock / Super Stock racers and with Mike voicing an interest in having a race at his track , I think it might be in all of our interests to persue that end. In fact feel free to contact me also, Duane anytime Doug has my cell number.
I would very much like to see something positive happen here for our future.

Respectfully,
Henry Kunz 1534 H/SA

This is a good idea.
Be glad to help.

See if we can expand this conversation.
Need to contact Dave Ley and get his feedback.
Cecil would be a good solution.

Other tracks should be encouraged to schedule a date.
Just bring it up and lets talk.

Mountain Mike email me at danfahey@dansources.com

Good morning to all,
Absolutely agreed on Dave being a part of this conversation.
I did reach out to Dave and he instructed me he would make a decision sometime at the end of this year or early next year.

Re: Reviving TriState/East Coast Drag Racing Series.

I have been a long time fan of this association and the first time watching you all back while I was bracket racing E town, ATCO seeing the Biondo's, and Dave Ley put on a fantastic series. Since doing a track rescue 9 years ago of the old Quarter Aces Dragway I have wanted to see a STOCK/SUPER STOCK, Nostalgia, Junior Stock type race at the now called South Mountain raceway. Many folks have visited my facility since purchasing it, but it was My Dear Friend the late Frank Aragona Jr.. Frank and his family brought along their Juniors and we had a BLAST!!! He knew we had a Diamond in the rough and was advising me what needed to be done to put on a SPRING THAW race. Please feel free to contact me on my cell 347-522-6466 or you can email me @ MNatolifleet@gmail.com.
Respectfully,

Mountain Mike Natoli
PS Our 2024 DRAFT Schedule is ready and WIDE OPEN for you all!!! I will be @ Bruce Larson's Saturday for his event and FUNDraiser.

A consideration for the ECS/SS could be to merge with Rob’s .90 series (if he wants the additional workload and headaches).

@Henry I don’t think you’ll get much participation at an 1/8 mile track

I think he will.
Just spoke with Mountain Mike...
He is from Long Island and long time Drag Racer.
Mike bought the track in 2014 and fixed it up.
It has a growing racing commumity.

Located near Carlile and south of Harrisburg PA, easy to get to.
It is a nice 1/8th mile facility.
Very clean and with nice concessions.

Mike saved a failing track that could have become realestate like ATCO.
Wants to schedule a race in March and April. Looking for any sponsors to help. Good warm up before the D1 season. Looking at another one after D1 Season is over and aAvoiding Mason Dixon or Cecil Race dates.

We can post using the TriState S/SS association going
Keeping the other Mike Carrs race series going?

Dan

I have been approached by a few people asking me to merge it with my series including some track owners, Dave & I are close friends, and I won't do anything without his blessing as the friendship & mentoring he has given me over the years is priceless. Nothing would be done unless Dave said okay and I would do everything to include Dave, Gloria, Bill, Russ & Kevin into keeping the series as is even if it's a different change of scenery.

Dave & I have talked at length about the future well before Atco closed. I know everyone was heartbroken over the track closing but, nobody spent more time at that track then Dave, I've been there when we have a private T&T for .90 cars and he just showed up because he was bored at home and could hear cars running at the track. Atco was his home and if he said he didn't want to see it continue I think we should all honor his wishes.

A few years back I had a discussion with Tim Worner God rest his soul and Frank Aragona Jr. who visited South Mountain. They both spoke of how Div 3 and IHRA races are competed @ 1/8 mile tracks and would be a good venue to introduce to the DIV 1 folks. Many racers travel to the Mountain to test from as far as West as Ohio. I would drive past Islip Drag Strip an 1/8 mile and regret never having set foot on that facility. My Boss use to race there every Sunday and told me your missing out on having a BLAST!!! Tom Felten and Joel Rosen MOTION and many more Long Islanders who now just have a runway to race on. Just my 2 cents

I lived in West Islip for 27 years, about 5 miles from Islip Speedway, I could hear the circle track from my house every weekend. I used to ride my bike with my friends to Islip on Friday nights for the drags back around 68-9 and hitch hike sometimes, we would climb and sit in the trees behind the starting line. I always thought I would race there when I got my license but I raced at Hampton the first time in May 71 then National shortly after and while I wasn't paying attention Islip closed the drag strip because it wasn't safe.
