Pro Vs Full Trans Brake?
I am looking to do some .400 tree racing (ss/sg) with a 3600 lb, big block, p/g, chevlle. BTE 1.80 straight cut 5500 stall 5:29 gear, 15/33.5 tire. I need to pick the cars reaction time up. Was wondering if anyone has some info on what I might pick up by going to a pro brake.

Re: Pro Vs Full Trans Brake?
In my supergas car, I went from an ATI bracket brake to a Hipster and picked up about .030...you can also shim out the solenoid and get a little....

Re: Pro Vs Full Trans Brake?
With the hipster do you have to hold down the button to back up. And does anyone make one that you don't have to.

Re: Pro Vs Full Trans Brake?
The difference for me between a Coan Standard and Pro brake was about .020.

Re: Pro Vs Full Trans Brake?
Most pro treeT-brakes require the solinoid to be activated to backup and that includes the Hipster. ATI had an internal solinoid style valve body as well as an external solinoid style valve body and both were faster than the average bracket style brake and neither of those two needed the solinoid activated for reverse.

Re: Pro Vs Full Trans Brake?
If the brake change doesn't work put a deeper low gear in it. Make sure you have all the Rev passage dump holes sized right (large) & you have better (stiffer) rev piston springs.
Do you do your own transmisssion work? |
Re: Pro Vs Full Trans Brake?
No, but I have a friend that does. I run a 28.0 front tire, I was told to put a smaller front tire and change the brake and that would pick me up a lot. I have the car set to run super-pro. I have also been told you can't set the car up to run both, but I don't see why.

Re: Pro Vs Full Trans Brake?
Sure you can. That is what they make delay boxes for. Set the car up for a pro tree and add delay when you run a full tree.
There are several things you can do for a quicker reacting car: 1. Pro Brake 2. Shorter front tires 3. Raise launch RPM 4. Change 4 link settings 5. engine location 6. Stiffer side wall in your slicks 7. Practice! |
Re: Pro Vs Full Trans Brake?
Tony, just cause I'm curious....
How much delay are you running in you car now on a full tree ? Are you gonna run some local races on the .400 tree or divisional/national events ? Reason I ask about what events, is, here in the east its really a .370 tree, not sure how to explain that, but the tree was sped up for the pro's to keep them from going red, and back here it rolled over to the divisional events also...So even us guys who were hitting the .400 tree ok had to do some work to hit the .370 tree in light SG cars...and you say (ss/sg) keep in mind the Super Street tree is .500... Also is the front tied down ? |
Re: Pro Vs Full Trans Brake?
Take note of what everyone has said & remember converter selection has quite a bit to do with reaction time. You usually have to work with your combination. It's a package deal.

Re: Pro Vs Full Trans Brake?
1.000 delay, And the front is not tied down. It has a lot of front travel. I plan on running some 6.0 heads ups and some super/street div. I forgot about the .500 tree in s/s. On the conveter selection, that is were I was worried about messing up the bracket combonation.

Re: Pro Vs Full Trans Brake?
If you can hit the full tree with 1.0 delay today, you should have no problem hitting a .500 pro-tree as is...
Pull the chip out and put 45 lbs of air in the front tires and let 'er rip...You might also try adding some air to the rear tires to speed it up... I didnt see how fast your car is but if you are going to use a throttle stop to run the 10.90 class kill it right off the line and you're good to go... |
Re: Pro Vs Full Trans Brake?
Why 45lbs? And the 6.00 class is on a .400 tree.
|
Re: Pro Vs Full Trans Brake?
More air in the front tires will give you a little less rollout, and if you were just doing the .500 tree it would save you from buying shorter tires...
On the .400 tree I believe that you will need to get some shorter tires to hit it and tie the front down some.. One way to look at it, you would need to have 1.100 in your delay box on a full tree to simulate a .400 tree.. |
Re: Pro Vs Full Trans Brake?
With 1.000 in your delay box you will need to empty it to hit a .500 tree. and @ 3600 lbs.you would need to leave when the other guy stages on a .400 tree, maybe you should think about s/st 1st and then try s/gas . s/st gets treated better and you always get your time shots.

Re: Pro Vs Full Trans Brake?
And fer sure Mr Bryan know that its aint no picnic trying to hit the .400 tree with a stock front suspension car...
The new ride will hit that tree you just have to wait to 10:00 at night sometimes to try it !!!! |
