this is an old airport that was closed, The whole county has 25K people living in it. anyone that would invest in the track would be throwing money away

Re: Drag strip opportunity in West Virginia
Cool looking place but when I go to Google Earth that doesn't look much like it unless they've done a LOT of earth moving since 2019.
I don't think the low population is a problem as long as there is an above average ratio of racers to non racers. |
Re: Drag strip opportunity in West Virginia
I have seen a couple in car camera videos going down that track at one of the 2 events they had.. and it is by far the roughest track I have ever seen.. they parked mining equipment on it for all the years it sat vacant.. I wish for all the WV racers this would be a solution to not having a track anywhere in the state..

Re: Drag strip opportunity in West Virginia
If the state or counties were going to invest money, they should have purchased Kanawha Valley Dragway. The infrastructure was already there plus alot more people to draw from and close the 4 lane rt 35 now.

Re: Drag strip opportunity in West Virginia
This track is the punchline to the joke of mountaintop removal mining. In this place they faked building a dragstrip. In other places they build a ballfield. Unfortunately, it's a facade and they never really give good access and it's never finished; they dump it on the county to sink taxpayer dollars in. If you read about the track you'll see they have to share the road with the mining company.

King Coal.
Kind of reminds me of the track at London KY. You go through the Daniel Boone Nat Forest to reach it. |
Re: Drag strip opportunity in West Virginia
This track is back in the news. The new operators are the Kirk Family. The track will be named 304 Motorsports Park under WDRA sanction. A lot of infrastructure will be needed, but they hope to have a soft opening before the end of the season.

For the family's sake I hope they know every detail and it works out for them.
