New Blood in Stock

A big shout out to Stock Eliminator 1st time racers Ethan Heil and Clay Guest. Both of these young men participated in the Vegas double last weekend.
Ethan is the grandson of Stock racer Buddy Jenson. He is racing Buddy’s former 67 Camaro. He did well the first round of the first race by putting me on the trailer with a .002 light!
Clay is the son of Stock racer Randy Guest and is racing the 68 big block Chevelle his grandfather and father raced previously. He and his dad are one of a handful of S/SS racers from New Mexico.
They are both nice young men and I think with time will show us great things. Good job guys, welcome to the sport!

Kelly

Unless I am mistaken , the name Michael Wann appeared on a NHRA qualifying sheet for the first time at Vegas. DISCLAIMER. …I have been wrong before …

Bobby didn't disappear. He was at the Wild Horse double.
His BBC did disappear during one of the early Q runs..for about an hour. They found most of it hither, and yon .
He was right there on national TV.
Sorry about that.

While the opportunity may not arise the most, probably the best way for young people to get into the sport is to find someone kind (or crazy) enough to let a "kid" run their stocker. While it's been done, I'm not saying you should let someone with little to no experience start out in a AA stock car or factory stock car, but at least give some guidance into the world of class racing. I was fortunate enough to find someone that let me dig one of their old stockers out of the archives to go racing, and for that I'm forever grateful. I'm sure there are plenty of retired or current racers with extra cars sitting in the back of the garage that aren't too much of a handful to drive where a "kid" could be mentored in the ways of driving and maintaining a race car. More importantly, it would help prolong the life of class racing.

Thank You Kelly. We do need young drivers in stock to keep the class going for the future. I believe Michael Wann is a up and coming racer he is Steve Wanns son and Clayton raced him first round of the first race.

I completely second this emotion. I have known Ethan Heil for quite a while now and I can tell you that he is going to be a superstar before long.

Buddy Jensen has provided not just a well maintained, safe platform "Spud" to learn in, but a great deal of mentoring and only the kind of wisdom that can come from a loving Grandpa! Ethan listens to the advice of those around him and he seems to absorb every word. I really believe that will be key to his future success.

These young folks are the only hope we have of surviving this dying hobby we call a sport.....and I think they will handle it well.

As long as they don't get lured away by the BS horse power that is nitrous and turbos. I think many kids see the ease that getting a junk yard LS and a blue bottle instead of learning how to build horsepower the honest way.
