Re: NMCA St. Louis Ford vs Chevy

Talked to Darren this morning as is racing NMCA in Rockingham. For the ease of work he says he wants to run the 2019 DI 360 HP combo instead of the Port Injected 2023 350 HP combo.

Since he is racing Rockingham, Reynolds and Charlotte before St Louis he has very little time to make the conversion. Now he said that he doesn't know if he can get to FS/G weight. SMH LOL

He is going to wear out a set of tires before I have made any passes with my new 350HP combination.
I did say that I haven't tested yet, he said that I had "old man problems" I told him I was only working on my excuses for St Louis. Us people up north don't have tracks open yet. (another excuse)

Since I cannot get to FS/F weight we might need to agree on a minimum weight for the runs.

I had hoped to test this coming week somewhere but it looks like rain everywhere that is within 8 hours drive time.

Indy points meet looks like my only chance to make some passes before St Louis.

This is going to be fun!

Robin

Bowling Green’s Beach Bend is having a test and tune Friday 4/21/23 4pm to 8pm. Saturday we have a SS/S Combo race 4/22/23, and Sunday another SS/S Combo race. I believe it’s NHRA rules just like the Points races placed on ladder by qualifying time.

It will be a good place to set up your car before the race at Indy 4/28-30/2023. Keep in mind that the the AHFS is unforgiving.

Will there be anyone at this race that can help Robbin find his way to the staging lanes?

(You can count on the OLD GUY to give you a quarter.)

Larrry,

Maybe you can make sure that he takes his meds, etc. and point him in the right direction?

Meds, miracles through modern chemistry.

Not unlike the crack that you must be smoking! Hahahahahaha........

I would caution you not to wear that deal out before St Louis but I don't want to jinx myself. Hopefully I can get a couple of passes in before then.

If I fix the average on the 302/360 at Charlotte this weekend, I will switch to the 302/350 on Monday. My math says that I need one more run (weather permitting).

I also scored 150 pounds of lead shot yesterday. My guy will be making weight bars Friday to put the car in FS/G.

Now, if Robin could just get some test runs in, maybe we will see a break in the constant flow of tears.....

Well it will be a battle of the handicapped for sure. I am dealing with lack of runs anxiety . I agreed to the new combination but haven't been able to make any runs.

I think that if you stay with that 360 combination you would be north of 3400 pounds at the 9.00 per HP in G.

Even with you switching to the PI 350 combo you will be somewhat un tested as I am.
I should be able to get a few runs at Indy this weekend if the weather cooperates. Then home for a few days to make the changes the data dictates.

Should be fun.

Little update,

As you know this Saturday at St Louis (Madison) NMCA heads up with Daren in his 302 CI 350 Horse COPO.

I heard Daren had transmission issue at Charlotte and has to deal with that as well. I am offering an old Turbo 400 that slips in high gear if he can't dig up a transmission.

I made a lap at Cordova on Saturday and got some good data. Completed 2 items at the track and have another 3 or 4 before on my to do list before I load up for this weekend.

I really hate to talk too much smack because I know it can come back and bite me in the ***. Still hopefully I can put Daren on the trailer.

Loser buys steak dinner.

Re: NMCA St. Louis Ford vs Chevy

As Larry said I made it in and through Tech yesterday. I see that Daren has posted that he is starting to work on the car this morning. I know he hurt a trans at Charlotte and needed to change rear gear as well as making the change to the 2023 Port Injected 350 Combo from the 2018 (I think) 360 Horsepower combination which is Direct Injection.

I know he had to get some weight to make the 3320 Minimum in FS/G with the 350 combo.

I fessed up about my run on Saturday as his runs earlier this year have been visible.
Had weather station COM Port issue but an hour after our run we were at a 103 correction and a DA of 1300 feet. The baro was low but it was cold and dry.

I ran a 9.85 @ 137.93 on the only pass. After looking at the data we figured I needed to revert back to my previous first gear ratio and a higher launch RPM.

I did scale the car while in tech and I am a safe 20 pounds over minimum.

Test pass this morning and maybe a clutch adjustment. We shall see.

Thanks to everyone for following along on our fun!

So far, the weight is in, the rear is apart, and the transmission is out.....

Drive safe ! They have you a premo spot to park.

Re: NMCA St. Louis Ford vs Chevy

I was able to make a couple of test runs yesterday. The first was a little frustrating as I ripped the front splitter off the bumper cover somehow. I must have damaged it at some point loading or unloading and didn't notice.
It ran a 9.93 @ 138 dragging the splitter. I also had issues with the trans shifting so I hit the limiter in 3 of the 4 shifts.

I patched the bumper cover back up and lowered the main rev limit. The idea is to unload the gears when I hit the limiter allowing the trans to shifted. Yes it has the clutch assisted sliders.
Air was a little worse but the car shifted and ran a 8.88 at almost 138.

For qualifying today I am going to raise the launch RPM and set main rev limiter offsets in the ECU to allow different RPM shift points.

Daren should be here by 8:00 tonight. I will probably be pressing sheets by the time he rolls in.

More to come.

Hey guys, I'm not here, but Robin Lawrence sent me photos and info on the Ford vs Chevy battle going on today. It will be a best out of 3 race. As you can see Darren is swapping rear gears... He had clearance issues with the 5.29, so he showed up with the 4.86's. Car did not run well, so Robin is loaning him his 5.29. The last shot is Darren's qualifier.

I pass along the results s soon as Robin sends them... love the grudge racing, we need more of this.
