Group formed to rescind 1975 9" tire rule!
If you're a current, former or future NHRA Racer with or without dementia and you feel that 9" tires on a Stocker are pure overkill then post your name to this thread or P/M me. OR contact the attending duty nurse. 7" tires should be more than enough!
If you're not interested in commenting then please keep your comments to yourself or in the confines of the nursing home. |

Re: Group formed to rescind 1975 9" tire rule!
I want to add my name to the list, I am a racer who isn't racing, I am a NHRA member, with a car, but not racing until ready. I don't remember if I have dementia or whatever it is. 9" tires are more than enough, I run them with 30 lbs of pressure.
If the fast guys don't know how to get their 500 HP cars hooked, then go to Modified Eliminator. Where is the nurse? If I can't see too good, should I remove my blinder. Traction control is moving your foot. Thank you Billy for forming this club, now where are the donuts. |

Billy ,will we also be able to bring our floor jacks and Stanley cheese grater files to the lanes to trim the tires to regulation size if this change is successful ??

Re: Group formed to rescind 1975 9" tire rule!
Easy slow pokes.
7 inch tire rule. How about all stockers must have 8 working spark plugs Also burnout with front tires illegal It’s dangerous 😝 |
Re: Group formed to rescind 1975 9" tire rule!
The Atlas Bucron 8.20's is a better choice. On a 4" rim like the old days.

Re: Group formed to rescind 1975 9" tire rule!
It seems that being able to pass a history exam regarding Stock, and its various transformations, will have to be a prerequisite to joining the group! Actually, it could be interesting to record what has transpired over the years. Some at NHRA "Club Headquarters" may find it interesting.?
I have some memory back to '72, I'd be glad to contribute what I can remember to the cause. |

I got one that can save as Money. Fuel check. Checking fuel is a waste of time. Who cares. We have shoe polish!
My idea Run any fuel you want. That right from gas station pump ⛽ gas to whatever you want to spend. I tried of spending 29.00 a gallon for lifting and some guys spend even more. Race gas is not cheap anymore. I know a lot of guys in other classes Super this and that run pump gas. Am pissed. I have to go now my wife is calling me its time for my MEDS.😡 7" tire Rock-On |

What about the rule for fully treaded tires when Stock was reinstated in 1972? L60-15 M&H 280 compound

9" tire just ruined my 265 Nomad. 7x29 Firestones-perfectl. clutch disc would last a long time. miss them old days.

Re: Group formed to rescind 1975 9" tire rule!
"Street type or drag slick tires, maximum 9 inch tread width"
Good news - rules say you can use the 7" tires. Even street tires. Throw them on there. Motorcycle guys might know which ones to use. |
Re: Group formed to rescind 1975 9" tire rule!
Question, is there a rule that says you cannot run a smaller tire?
If there is no rule then y’all can run the small tire. No disrespect but Why penalize the other cars? |

Anybody out there who wants to, go ahead and run the 7" lower HP guys might even pick up, but I doubt you will any takers. Hell, I say we should have 10" tires! Is it bedtime yet?

Re: Group formed to rescind 1975 9" tire rule!
Great Idea Billy....
That might stop the rush to make Stock into Super Stock...& equalize the old combos with the new factory cars. That is what we had when I started and somewhere along the way the high HP guys wanted 9". Would love to see a COPO on 7" tires... |

I tried the 7" tires with no success, I know that the SS class of the Southeast Gasser Association mandates that the racers use the 7" tires. They only run the 1/8 mile and I know that some hook pretty well to allow them to run well into the 6,60 second range at 105 MPH.
I would try the 7" tires again, they were 5lbs lighter than the 9" tires which means more wheel speed. Casey Miles 248H Stock |

1. The slicks that were on "Shark Bait" when I won the D7 LODRS divisional in October 2020, as well as the Arizona Stock/Super Stock Association combo race (both in 2022, and 2023), were 22×8×15. 2. If you "James" didn't put that laughing emoticon in your post, I would've thought you feel like many who might wish all FWD, and 4-6cyl Stockers would be banned from Stock (never mind the fact that several OEM car engine combos from the Muscle Car era, wouldn't run away and hide from my Z24 Cavalier that's still headerless)! Moreover, when Stock was really Stock, and not more like Super Stock from the '80 & '90's, even the slower V8 classes couldn't easily outperform my car! To those who still feel that way, I will say the same thing "The Grinch said to the Who's in Whoville, "BOO WHOOOOOOOO"!!!! 3. Because M/T stopped making those tires, I stopped doing burnouts. So you won't see me doing any front wheel burnouts with those tires again. Besides, another reason I don't do them is because the water patch is too big (what happened to a smaller patch and the racer doing a brief spin to wrap the water around his/her tires,, then pulling forward?)! I needed dry pavement for my parking brake to hold my rear tires in place while I did my burnouts (circa the Book "How to Drag Race, page 33 featuring my car starting a burnout that was far more massive than the picture indicated)! |

10% throttle , 0 deg. timing..all in by 1000' mark. Maybe a few wagon combos could handle 7" tires W.A. Lee, 350 /2bbl, used the old Jr Stock Firestone dot 5's when 9 inchers were legal. He'd run them at about 30-35 psi, stand on the converter, WFO, and just let go of the brake. Won quite a bit that way.. I think my old R/Stock wagon is still around in PA. somewhere.. 7 " SEGA spec Hoosiers.. Hmmm I think it would work ;-) |

D3 or D5 compound. The D3 was in a white dot and the D5 was in a yellow dot. Or maybe it was the other way around? Anyway, with 7 lbs. in 'em, the car would....wiggle... a bit in the traps. Hope all is well. :) -Al |
