LS engine oil filter options
The pan I am installing uses a Delco PF47 oil filter. [Chevy muscle car crate motor pan] What oil filter are some of you installing on your LS race engines?

Re: LS engine oil filter options
K&N or Wix XP

Re: LS engine oil filter options
A lot of the LS powered cars I've worked on have been using billet screen filters from K&P [not K&N] instead of the conventional paper filters . They are very compact .
I believe Ray Barton is a dealer. |
Re: LS engine oil filter options
Do not use Wix filters I have had numerous collapse all have sent to Wix, Rep came to my home picked up the filters ,to be shipped Wix to be analyzed ,they were shipped back to me sent me, and sent me letter there was nothing wrong, just one small thing I cut all the filters apart before the Rep arrived to show him how the filters had collapsed before he took them he told me because I cut them apart there was little Wix could do , one could see it had collapsed with little or no oil flow Zero

Re: LS engine oil filter options
Purchased 2 Wix filters last year,# 51040. when they arrived 1 was made in USA and the other made in China ! We use Wix on a fleet I work on and more of the filters are coming made in China. Look at what all the crate motors and Copos come with. Delco Blue. The Wix XP have more pressure drop across the filter. Just an observation.

Re: LS engine oil filter options
Note this list says "majority made in the US"
All I can say is read the box yourself. https://tiremeetsroad.com/2021/12/21...united-states/ https://www.machinerylubrication.com...ose-oil-filter |
Re: LS engine oil filter options
We got our LS1 K&P filter from Scoggin Dickey, it came with socket installation tool and had free shipping. Also we had it in 2 days. They also had a great price. Tom

Re: LS engine oil filter options
Have a WIX filter 51061 on the shelf here. Says made in USA on box and made in Mexico on filter, junk?

Re: LS engine oil filter options
Never had a Wix filter failure on any vehicle that we have used from gas to diesel engines. These are trucks, RVs, street cars, and race cars, but we don't run street filters on our race cars either. We only use the "R" code Wix filters for our race cars.
There is a difference. |
Re: LS engine oil filter options
NAPA Gold series of oil filters are also made by Wix.
As Kyle Ratcliff (Master Sheep Husbandry Expert), shares he does, I also use Wix on every application and never had an issue either. |
Re: LS engine oil filter options
The Streetcar Wix filters are 21 micron where the "R" Race filers are 61.Race filters let more particles thru, but flow more and are designed for race application's. I think those Wix Race filters were originally developed for the Busch Series Cup cars back in the 80's and then later released to the general public..

Re: LS engine oil filter options
I run the Moroso 21151 pan and a K&N HP 1017 filter I really like being able to take it off with a socket and ratchet.
Does the KP have the hex on the bottom? Does it flow better than the K&N? BTW great article in ND few yrs ago with David Rehr saying more concerned with flow than filtration on a race engine. |
