Train To The City Of New Orleans
On my way to Jimmy Hidalgo’s Used Car Sales to pick up a potential dime rocket. It a turbo Chevy it could be fun. You know the 70 th Indy is fast approaching.
Train was only 10 minutes late and so far top speed has been 81 mph. Seats are pretty good they have room for me to stretch out. And you get to see 500 miles of Christmas lights. Seen some real nice ones. |
Re: Train To The City Of New Orleans
I did discover a down side of the trip at least for me. I could not stand up in the restroom do to a short ceiling.
And the turbo car is not in the Guide. I have about 6 and half hours to go on the trip. |
Re: Train To The City Of New Orleans
Leaving Memphis I spotted a 1961 Impala 4dr hardtop that looked to be still in service with the blue and white very faded OEM paint.
At the refinery we passed tanker trucks were lined up 5 to 6 deep at more than 10 refueling lanes. A lot of the railroad car art was kinda kool |
Re: Train To The City Of New Orleans
Arlo would approve such a journey through America….

But say you had your first Christmas party last year, and are having another this year. That would be your second annual party, not first. Even though it's one year. So the second US Nats in Indy was in 1962, the 62nd was 2022 |
Re: Train To The City Of New Orleans
Why not just run 305 in the truck ,big cam 800 cfm carb and smaller dish in piston @190hp 42 hp less than same engine in any other body with small cam and slightly less compression . Looks too good to be true. Merry Christmas Rick&Phyllis

Re: Train To The City Of New Orleans
Larry Hill will be top qualifier in stock at the 70th U S Nationals .But this "turbo Chevy" may be a decoy.

Re: Train To The City Of New Orleans
I love Cajun country especially the food. Train ride to Hammond is close to 10 .5 he. It’s all I can do to post a picture on C/R.

Re: Train To The City Of New Orleans
I have a 400 block I could sleeve down to 305 size. That should give me some thick cylinder walls.
|
Re: Train To The City Of New Orleans
80 Monte Carlo with the turbo V-6?
|
Re: Train To The City Of New Orleans

Thanks. I know about them, but was just not sure that NHRA with some of their wonky rules they were legal. Stan |
Re: Train To The City Of New Orleans
Seems to me that the Dart legal replacement block is available with a 4 1/8th bore and the 350 main size. That would be the starting place for the most overkill 305 you never did see! It probably would weigh as much as a 454 block.
|
Re: Train To The City Of New Orleans
Dart has announced that they are reintroducing the 305 block. No idea when they will be available. The shop I work at had ordered 10 o them.

Re: Train To The City Of New Orleans
At least Patsy would have taken pictures. Did you get any mud bugs? BP

Re: Train To The City Of New Orleans
On the ride down about daybreak I woke up with the symptoms of a cold. It just ruined the trip. I did get a quick tour of Don P machine shop in Hammond La. It was clean, well lit, and with top notch equipment and experienced techs. If you live in La. all of the experts don’t live out of town.

Re: Train To The City Of New Orleans
Few years ago I drove my truck down to Hammond to pick up a motorcycle (because race cars simply can’t keep me poor enough) and reading this thread makes me wish I had taken the train and rode the bike home. BIG bonus was Kevin Helms giving me a tour of Jeff’s shop.
And since Arlo’s lyrics now keep looping in my brain… Good Morning America, how are you? |

Kudos Mark for giving credit where it’s due for such a marvelous work popularized by Arlo. Steve Goodman had a great voice as well.
And thanks again to Larry for carrying us along for the ride. |
