Given the fact that he is an American citizen, deserving the same consideration for release as any other citizen detained by a foreign country. But he is no special Marine, he enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve in 1994.He took military leave from Kelly Services to serve with the Marine Corps Reserve from 2003 to 2008, including service in Iraq. He held the rank of staff sergeant with Marine Air Control Group 38 working as an administrative clerk and administrative chief, and he was part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. After a court-martial conviction in January 2008 on multiple counts "related to larceny", he was sentenced to 60 days restriction, reduction to pay grade E-4, and a bad conduct discharge. The specific charges against him included "attempted larceny, three specifications of dereliction of duty, making a false official statement, wrongfully using another’s social security number, and ten specifications of making and uttering checks without having sufficient funds in his account for payment." I hope that negotiations continue for his quick return. And one last thought… what did Trump do to rectify this situation, nothing!

Trump wouldn't of traded the Merchant of Death for any one. But he did free 17 prisoners from foreign countries while President and didn't trade anyone for them.

NYS wants to ban natural gas hook ups for new building construction under 7 stories beginning in 2023, all new buildings by 2027. But wait they're building a new stadium for the Buffalo Bills, with tax payer subsidies, and will be owned by the state. Guess what heating/cooking system will be used, thats right natural gas. WTF

Biden has 5 student deferments, Obama was to young for the draft and Clinton got a 311 draft number, too high to be selected. No daddy bought medical excuses here. With regards to EPA challenges California has many that will leave many shaking their heads.

You know, more and more, there are people who make me question the idea that said "thank you" is automatically deserved. I've met plenty for whom it was simply a career choice, and had nothing to do with service. It's often really obvious, their arrogance, attitude, and actions speak volumes.


And it has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not I agree with them, on any subject.

Alan, it didn’t start off as a career choice, I was drafted and elected to go into the Marines. I never once thought that this would be a career. I was going to do my time and return to college to be a teacher. The meritorious promotions, the special assignments, the Officer commission made it a career. It was all about making a better life for myself and my family… the American dream! I made the choice to serve my country as my father, grandfather and uncles did, I didn’t shy away from making a commitment to serve this great nation…when called I went!

I was drafted because a fat Democrat that picked up dogs by their ears said I had to go. I went because it was my duty to serve my country, it was my price of admission to live in the USA, or so I thought. None of my friends from school went as when the time came according to them they were physical wrecks (they weren’t) or they took off to Canada. I lost respect for them. They were just afraid they were going to die. You only die once, but you are coward for a lifetime.

Instead of people thanking me for my service, I much prefer "welcome home".

One final comment, please don't pick on the LGBTQ folks,

I didn't take a deferment because it was the not what I thought was right, had too many friends that went. I agree with you on many issues except one and maybe that quarter pounder with cheese. Welcome Home Gary!!

5 deferments that's kinda comical Just what the US always needed was a poor student that barely made it through law school, then deciding he could't make it as an attorney, thought, I'll run for public office and see hoe\w bad I can eff that up. I don’t have a problem with deferments for education. I elected not to use my option and was drafted. My choice! Correct me if I am wrong but I think Reagan signed taxing SS into law.

Reagan signed a bill declaring 50% of SS subject to income tax in April 1983--- in that bill he also raised the amount of income that SS was to be subjected to withholding from and lowered the maximum income tax rate from about 75% to I think about 28%----while Clinton increased SS income to 85% from 50% subject to income tax in 1993---FED 387
