Prayers for Brother John
 

A month ago my brother John was riding his new Harley enjoying life to the fullest. Just a few days later he was in a furniture store with Amy (his wife) looking over some furniture and says " I feel like I'm walking on sponges". She ran him up to the emergency room and they treated him for a mini stroke. The next day he had just about fully recovered but during the scan of his head they spotted a mass on his lung. Almost instantaneously he started getting horrendous pains in his back and hip. Yesterday they finally was able to get him through all the needed test. The news is devastating. Stage 4 Lung Cancer that has spread to his Pelvis, Hip and lower Spine. I post this as John and Amy are well known figures in the racing community and I'm starting to get text and calls asking what is going on. They sent him home from the hospital yesterday and will try to treat the pain with radiation starting tomorrow. Enjoy life guys, it can change in an instant.

Having the words Cancer in your diagnosis is devastating. It is how everyone involved reacts to those words that is most important. Been there, done that with my wife several years ago.

Prayers for John, Amy and family, may God comfort and help them at this difficult time.

Like Jeff said - enjoy life guys - it can change in an instant.

I met John and Jeff on separate occasions 30 years ago at a drag race.I did not know they were brothers.OddlyJohn was chasing a very pretty blond in a circle on a bicycle laughing his head off. It was Amy. I subsequently met Sue, Jeff’s wife. Since then all four plus their dogs have been family to Nancy and I. Please pray for John and the Nicewangers . We love them immensely and they represent the best qualities in human beings.

Hi Nick... I doubt that. I think my brother would have no part of that. He's old school. But thank you so much for your concern. The racing community is indeed family. Thank you all so much.
At 11 o'clock today John goes for his radiation markings. I asked the doctors how they know where to point the radiation when such a large area is affected. Their answer was "Pinpointed at everything that hurts".
Although John sleeps a lot on all these pain meds, he still loves talking. If anyone wants to give him a shout, feel free to do so.

I was able to get in touch with Amy. Thank You Jeff Amy asked me to pass a few things along . She is currently not working as she is by Johns side. John’s pain is so excruciating that he is on morphine. The morphine is causing him to be very nauseas. For those that have reached out and called, Amy said she will get in touch with you…sending prayers for John, Amy, Jeff and the entire Niceswanger family.

A little update.Yesterday we managed to get John up to the hospital for his first radiation lazer drawings. Afterward we were supposed to take him directly over to the Radiation Dept for his first treatments. These are to relieve some of his pain. Their was just no way to get him laying down for the scans to lay out his drawings, let alone the treatments. So we rescheduled his appointments and they will up his morning pain meds (morphine and oxy) and have a shot of dilaudid ready when they go to lay him down. He's a tough guy but this cancer stuff is over the top painful. He knows all you are pullin and praying for him and he thanks you all...

I understand what you all are going through. I am sure the pain your brother is dealing with is overwhelming, but what you as a family are going through is actually worse. I know from experience, because you feel helpless no matter what you do. God Bless all of you as you go through this ordeal with your brother.

We made the agonizing decision to put John in Hospice (The morrison house).Didn't want to, but Amy cant handle the situation. Got him in there about midnight. I'm doing the nightshift's', the rest of the family will pick up the daylight hours. One of us will be there at all times. For all the calls, text, emails we want to say a huge Thanks. The prayers are helpful in knowing John had such friendships with so many great people. It means a lot.
