Las Vegas Race

Battles for national points start off with a bang first round. Jimmy Hidalgo Jr vs. Brad Burton should be a great race in stock. In super stock first round has Greg Stanfield vs Jimmy DeFrank. Fun stuff!

Re: Las Vegas Race

Stock is still a fight for the top. I would say 4 drivers are possibly sleeping less lately. Also 2 are trying for the top 10. Looks like all the divisions are decided in stock I believe. Even the last divisional next week here has National points interest still. Personally the only points chase left is next years allstar points. Always looking forward I guess.
Two great heads-up in stock tomorrow morning. Joe and Justin are chasing National top 10 points. Good to see Steve Wann back at it in a heads-up too. Jimmy could move into a tie for first with a victory second round and the bye in the third. Plenty to watch just in stock alone.

Re: Las Vegas Race

Another Stock rerun due to the index being input rather than the dial, and at least one other pair where the dials must have been corrected late because the numbers on Live Timing and DRC just don’t add up.

Some great drama this time of year for sure!

I doubt anybody in this subforum gives a hoot, but I don’t think any of the top points players in Super Gas made it through first round. It was uncanny.

Couple pretty interesting heads up races this morning in E2.

Wann vs. Rizzoli in AA/SA

Sorenson vs. Jerome in F/SA

ALL are fast. 😳

Re: Las Vegas Race

If Cooter is able to take the light in 3rd round on his bye he will assume the lead for the points by 1. If Chad Langdon wind his 3rd round matchup it would be a heads-up 4th round for Cooter and we know that car is fast even when it's not in blow up mode

Re: Las Vegas Race

Cooter, I think if the Cooter wins 3rd round, which he will, because this a
7 round race, he will get 50 points, one less than his 4th round loss at
Dallas. If he wins 4th round, which we hope he will, he would get 61 points
at least, and then be ahead. But, like Alan Rinehart says " Numbers is hard"

It looks to me like he is improving on a 51,so 61 after the bye run win will put him in a tie with Santangelo.

I think he has the tiebreaker, but if he keeps winning, that won't be an issue.

J.R. I stand corrected lol. I'm so accustomed to 6 round races it seems those are the only points I can figure!

And now we have D'Agnola vs Stanfield round 4 it just keeps getting better! I took my shoes off to Mr Larry and I think if Stanfield wins he takes over the points lead.

Jimmy Hidalgo Jr. calls in to give us the rundown on his championship chase.
Tight racing, heads up performance-based runs, unfortunate breakouts, and a NASCAR superstar made up the recent NHRA Nevada Nationals. The big names of Stock & Super Stock did not disappoint and it was anyone's game, especially in the later rounds!

24 hours made a big difference. Not a whisper of wind, sun shine and jacket weather for sure. A few cars I haven't seen this year. Just driving around the place is pretty full. Haven't heard a car count.

Change of schedule. No third qualifier. First round tomorrow morning. I also heard anyone that was planning on racing tomorrow and had not made a run yet. They need to call Mike Rice. Might not see a ladder til morning.

There is possibly 4 more to be added to stock. Regular mystery novel. I guess we'll find out in the morning. My math says if 4 cars get added to the bottom I have a heads up. Is it good to know now or in the morning? I'm not going back tonight that's for sure.

Re: Las Vegas Race

Appreciate the reports Paul. Lot of anticipation waiting for the ladders to be posted. Would be kinda cool for Santangelo to magically appear on the sheet but recognize it would be a tall mountain to climb given how Cooter is driving. Would never count out Burton though so the NHRA broadcast will probably get lots of views. The single camera view from the tower leaves me wanting more of Warren’s expertise but guess what we see is what we get.

Was actually expecting a full field, inflation sucks.

Re: Las Vegas Race

Although not a Stock or super Stock car, (although he does run late model Cobra Jet Mustangs in those classes), I noticed in the Vegas LODRS race, qualifying list, for Top Sportsman, Gary Coe from Oregon is qualified with a 7.62 @ 178 MPH in a 1957 Custom 300. Back in the 60s, Coes raced a 57 Ford in C/Altered, called the "Gunfighter", that was always a fan favorite in the Northwest, before he got into Pro Stock. Anyhow, as a fan of 50s Fords , if anybody could put up some photos of Coes new 57 Ford, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Jon had a heads up in D/SA
We did not find out about ladder changing
until 10 or 15 minutes before we had to head up.
Jon pulled it out by 3 or 4 hundred but it would be nice to
have a little warning up to prepare the car.

Re: Las Vegas Race

I heard Alan Reinhart say there are about 700 cars that entered. Looks like down to Brad as far as the Championship for this race in stock. Could be another D/SA heads up John in the 3rd round for you.

I don't know if other divisions do it, but the W.W.Williams SST, SG and SC shootout at every division race seems to really screw up the schedule. Not sure why the .90 classes get a race within the divisional race, while other classes get shorted runs.

Yes,Division 3 does it and I don't know why it is such a high priority all the time.

I believe because they pay NHRA money to run the event at a Divisonal.

Jon races Brad in D/SA 3rd round.
We raced him here a year or two ago
and Jon went -1.06 under with a Double 0
and Brad went around him with about
.100 light and went - 1.17or 1.19 as I remember.

We will be lucky to run that good again air is
OK but not great! Our average is OK so a hit
will not hurt us any and we have not been able
to go 1.20 for a very long time (Since our last HP hit)

We are 314 HP/340ci and the 455 Pontiacs are about the same
HP at 455ci. but I am too old to change brands after 60 years of
Mopars.
