Is the divisional at Famoso, Bakersfield by chance live anywhere?

I posted Q2 Stock on my Facebook page. Sun was in my eyes, couldn’t see what I was doing, so I didn’t get the times, just order. 🙄 There will be a clean up session. I’ll try to do better. Lol

It is good to see Steve Wann on the sheets. We hope he is on the way to be back at 100%.

Re: Divisional at Famoso

What happened to car 7407 I/SA , it is not on the sheets listed on DRC but it is pictured on Facebook?

Live timing has him in Q1 but not in Q2. Did he leave or was the car in the "Barn"?

Jared Jordan 10-14-2022 09:34 AM

Re: Divisional at Famoso

Had the wrong intake on it when it made Q1. They re-teched the car into SS/JA.

Re: Divisional at Famoso

So you can do that? Have non legal parts, go 1.20+ under, change eliminator and still keep racing at that race?

Really?

Re: Divisional at Famoso

He may have went to them and said he wanted to re tech and they probably made him pay an entry, I doubt they caught him and let him re enter BUT the truth will be on here later i"m sure

Larry Hill 10-14-2022 03:57 PM

Re: Divisional at Famoso

The car in the picture had I/SA on the window. Was the intake the wrong casting number, a 968 or a 301 are the only two listed for the '64 383 or was it a SS intake.

You know, call me cynical but when I saw that this car qualified numero UNO and then, like a fart in the wind …. DISAPPEARED from the sheet , my IMAGINATION got the best of me ….after receiving his time slip and before he reached the scales ,did he drain the water from the radiator and DUMP his weight box, hmmm….BEEN DONE BEFORE ….Did he weigh and check his fuel AND at his trailer change a few rockers so that his cam would not check before tear down, hmmmm….. OR MY FAVORITE OF ALL TIME , did he make it back safely to the trailer and POLISH his EFI …..oh my mistake , this is a 64 Chrysler carburetor car …….…old age can sure play tricks on ya …..

I thought NHRA removed the 301 Intake from the 64 383
cars?

GTX that is what the engine specs showed for a 64 383, Today!

Re: Divisional at Famoso

That’s a premeditated blatant cheat. One year off if it was fair. NHRA needs to take a closer look at this.

Re: Divisional at Famoso

This story gets worse the more I think about it.

So I can throw a COPO engine in my 89 Camaro H/SA or a CJ engine in my 92 Mustang K/S (remember there is barely any tech inspection now, correct?), and if I get caught, I can just claim ignorance and say "Sorry, I meant to enter SS in a FGT class????"

I sincerely hope there are more details we aren't hearing.

I don’t know which number casting was on it but my understanding is that it was a later-model, stock 383 casting that wasn’t correct for the 64 383.

They’ve run the same car in SS/JA previously with an Edelbrock single plane intake.

I truly believe this was an honest mistake and the driver, when he was told by another racer that he had the incorrect casting on the engine, self-reported himself to NHRA and was permitted to reclassify into SS.

Larry, The photo with I/SA is my photo from Q1. Later it showed SS/JA

The car looks great in the picture with attention to detail everywhere a person could look.

jmcarter 10-15-2022 09:00 AM

Re: Divisional at Famoso

Presumably the attention to detail would extend to completion of the online tech card but perhaps that’s no longer necessary in this online tech era.

Markeracer 10-15-2022 10:24 AM

Re: Divisional at Famoso

How about some comments from veteran D1 or D3 racers……..could you get away with this back east? Has this been done before?

Run 1.20 under and withdraw, then re enter in SS?

And if so, is this another way to avoid the HP hit?

He's been racing that car for a few years, I presume he knows the rules and specs for that combination.

Re: Divisional at Famoso

First off, the car looks beautiful. I see that Joe is having trouble running the index. Didn't hit it in SS/JA and is barely under in SS/KA today.

It is, obviously a small tire car. Was it built to Stock specs or S/S specs?? There is a difference and has the car been under index in S/S before, or run as a stocker ever. Just curious.

Thanks Jared for the info that you added.

MY mistake = The 301 is legal at this time.
The 666 which possibly is a better intake maybe
is the one currently illegal on the 64 383.
I assume that was the problem.

The manifold rules have moved around a bit on this combo
and I am not current on it.

Todd Hoven 10-15-2022 03:08 PM

Re: Divisional at Famoso

Is this the new standard for tech? An infraction in Tech or a 1.20 under run, and you get a mulligan? Will this be applied evenly or on a case by case basis? So if I commit a 1.20 under infraction in qualifying so I get to change class or just ask to the tech department to DQ me for the race? So I keep my HP down? Now that there is no 1.20 instant after this year this is a moot point.
Is there any penalties anymore for rule infraction anymore? This is becoming a disturbing trend.

I believe that this was an honest mistake, Joe is
not a full time racer. All of you that are complaining
give him a break, as soon as he was told it was wrong
he reported to NHRA. He was not trying to cheat, he
did not know that manifold was no longer legal.
Why is nobody bitching about the 305 engine that was
never offered in a Camaro but NHRA let it run all year?

Todd Hoven 10-15-2022 04:35 PM

Re: Divisional at Famoso

I’m sure he is a good guy and and salt of the earth. If you don’t apply the rules evenly and without prejudice that’s a problem. Do we need a court of
opinion now before any rules are enforced? Who decides on who is a good guy and who is not? Is that the new standard?

Greg ...I'm confused the 305 was the only V8 in the early Gen 3 Camaros at least in California ?

Well we just got back from the Class Final in D/SA.
While in the back behind the lanes while preparing for the
final = The two guys who were running this 64 came up to
me and got in my face and asked me, Are you that John Irving
that posted this reply to this thread. I replied in the affirmative.
He then said "Do you want to fight me". I have never met him before.
Most of you guys know I am in my Mid 70's and I am struggling just
to walk around after my last couple surgeries. These gentlemen are 1/2
my age!! I am very surprised at this situation!!
