Re: Las Vegas Nationals
I doubt that they will get that far in the Program= Remember the Divisional
and all the Delays! I am glad that we have a Toterhome to stay in and rest. |
Re: Las Vegas Nationals
I hear it is a mess at the track. The carnival that was there is basically still being torn down. The stacking of rigs won't be let in till possibly noon Thursday (tomorrow) I was told. Maybe 10 am if all goes well. You have to be careful of big staples they use to hold down the fake grass they installed for the carnival. The fan parking lot is still full of tents. The fences around the track has to be reinstalled yet. There are folks hanging around everywhere. Not sure how secure the place is right now.

Re: Las Vegas Nationals
We are here and you can not believe the mess unless you see it.
I just hope it gets better. I can not believe the run schedule. I now regret having come if the schedule holds true. The wife reminds me the schedule is always subject to change. I sure hope it does. Just My 2 Cents Rick Cates |

WHO is responsible for this ???? |
Re: Las Vegas Nationals
My kids tell me it was an Electric Dance Concert (EDC) which attracts over 400,000 attendees and generates more than $152 million in revenue. They not only filled the spectator parking but the entire drag strip, pits and nascar track. Definitely not my thing, but kind of a big deal.

Re: Las Vegas Nationals
The EDC Drug and Sex Convention makes LVMS twice as much as
Both National Eventots and all three Divisional combined! They could care less about the Bracket Series/Test and Tunes and have cut them down by about 2/3. It is not the Managements fault = the Multiple Track Owner just is not interested in the Grass Roots stuff at all. LVMS is an expensive property AND expensive to run as well. The local stuff is just not a Profit Center of any significance. All the tracks under this ownership may like Sears Point have a extremely limited Drag Racing Program if anything except big races and occasional OursideTrack Rental Events I do not think we will recognize what Drag Racing has become by the end of the Decade = Particularly out here on the Western Division of NHRA. Of Course, I hope that I am completely wrong for my Kids sake. |
Re: Las Vegas Nationals
I attended a Buick race there about 15- 20 years ago and the track was shared with a Japanese car crowd-we ran time trials between 8 and 11 am then "they" had the track for most of the day-we ran our first round at 11 pm! sucked big time - I was never so happy to lose first round so I could get some sleep!

NO
NHRA tv as promised .. Ron |
Re: Las Vegas Nationals
Like everything lately. I can only guess the folks that set up and teardown the carnival event are short handed. I haven't gone out yet since I'm an open trailer racer. If it doesn't get better today I might just donate my money and stay at home.
Did Bruton Smith build this great place to race just to be taken over by some crazy carnival. I have received numerous E-Mails on covid restriction for this race but yet a carnival with none take over the place. If they don't clean up the place. They will lose NHRA fan money for years. Paul |

Re: Las Vegas Nationals
Bruton Smith doesn't give a rat's *** about N.H.R.A. racers, especially sportsman. But the N.H.R.A. should and how dare they schedule a National Event knowing about the circus that is still to be cleaned up. Poor planning on their part.

Re: Las Vegas Nationals
I sure will Floyd!
A bit of a cluster but I'm parked. They took us up the back side of the track up and around the end of the track. Then back down the return road. Well they did that for the first 191 rigs. I was 192 go figure. Myself leading 30 other rigs had to turn around because the track was going hot. Basically the E.T. cars were going to make their time trial runs. We all ended up in the staging lanes. After a 45 minute wait there I was the first car to get parked from that spot. The place is full because for some reason about 150 parking spots are block off and the pros take up their normal area. They are still removing the carnival cluster taking up the spectator parking area. All that I can say is the staff are not carrying smiles on their faces. There was at least 100 motorhomes in a line being parked on the north side to spectate and enjoy the nice weather we will be having. Paul |
Re: Las Vegas Nationals
I just watched live timing for first round of stock. Brian Mcclanahan, Hoven and Wann all in AA, sure wish they were running Class! Realize it’s an altitude track but the more live timing I watch the more impressed I am by the 60’ times for Larry Hill and Jim Marshall.

Re: Las Vegas Nationals
Glad to hear some Stockers went down the track already.
9:30..No detailed results on live timing yet (No DRC either ,but that's a private deal.) Does the janitor at NHRA have to walk by and see the blinking download button? What takes so long, in this day and age? Shouldn't it be done automatically ? Pitiful |
Re: Las Vegas Nationals
Jim,
Wann was entered in A and Butner was entered in AA |
Re: Las Vegas Nationals
Wann is in AA with his ‘63.
I don’t know what it is about the first day of a race. It’s like they pretend they don’t know it’s happening ahead of time. |

Wow! All 3 are really close and fast. Butner is on the bottom of the sheet.

Re: Las Vegas Nationals
You can cover those 3 AA cars with a small blanket.

Are they going to run it out tonight or send some of the classes back to the trailer and wait for tomorrow?

Re: Las Vegas Nationals
Unless I'm reading it wrong they are running TT2 for super comp right now.
the run schedule must have been changed. |
Re: Las Vegas Nationals
Wow, looks like they kept the folks up late last night. Low humidity out there makes it possible but still difficult and they’re out again first thing. Jody/Jerry Emmons matchup with definite championship implications. Interesting to see at least Todd and Cooter are taking their shots out west, Pomona will be interesting if it’s not settled in Vegas. Joe?
|
Re: Las Vegas Nationals
Jody took out Emmons in stock eliminator. The other Emmons took out Jody in SS.
Hoven, Wann and McClanahan are marching thru the the ladder. |
Re: Las Vegas Nationals
It was a super long day. About 13 hours between Q1 and first round. My circuit breaker for my water pump decided it was done as I sat in the lanes for first round. I gave it a go. Left the line about 150 degrees which is about 35 degrees hotter than normal. Charlene had a great light against me and sent me home. The same hard working girls handing out time slips put in near 15 hours. Hats off to all that put in the time and hard work.
