Fuel Jugs
Saw an ad for VP Motorsports Container jugs from a company called AI13 Billet Products. Compared it to Jegs Utility Jugs. Big price difference, but noticed that they do not recommend fuel to be stored or transferred in either one. They are for water, bird seed, automotive fluids, corn, etc.
So, where do you get fuel jugs from for racing fuel. The VP containers are for nitro or methanol. Any suggestions. Ron Ortiz U/SA |
Re: Fuel Jugs
My local speed shop has Scribner Fuel Jugs. I have some that are 20 plus years old.

Re: Fuel Jugs
Ron--- Mine are Scribners too--- only have fuel in them for short periods of time like the week or 2 of a race otherwise they stay empty until needed--FED 387

Re: Fuel Jugs
I used to have some fuel jugs that were made by a company called Coogle. They worked fine for many years, but a few years ago, I noticed that they were seeping fuel (VP C12) from the bottom, and it appears the molding seam on the bottom had deteriorated over time, so I had to replace them. Plus the hard plastic caps were getting quite cracked as well. I still have one of the Coogles that has been used for water, and it is still OK, after 30+ years.

Re: Fuel Jugs
Beware of the red VP square jugs. The bottom corners are extremely thin, which can easily be verified by holding one up to a light source and looking up through the neck. This is not an issue with black or white jugs that I have checked...can’t comment on other colors.

Re: Fuel Jugs
I recently purchased the Mr.Gasket square jugs in blue and red. New design according to the website. I will have to inspect them closely. I would really hate to open the trailer door and find 5 gallons of generator or race gas had leaked out!

Re: Fuel Jugs
most "fuel" jugs are not rated for gasoline, most state that on them, they don't meet DOT specs
|
Re: Fuel Jugs
I don't use fuel jugs anymore since I buy VP in 5-gallon containers, which are metal. The containers reseal after they're opened using the supplied plastic spouts and caps.

Re: Fuel Jugs
I picked up a pair of VP jugs that had sat empty for the winter and knocked them together to get the dust off. One shattered into about 10 pieces.

Re: Fuel Jugs
Was told by a someone who worked for VP and then Insinger that plastic fuel jugs are temporary fuel containers. The plastic jugs are porous, leading to the fuel not passing fuel check. He said it will be ok for the weekend, but not long term. Maybe others have heard this also.

Re: Fuel Jugs
Correct on temporary usage. The darker the jug the better. But not a fix all. Steel pails or drums of fuel are the best way to store
|
Re: Fuel Jugs
Use plastic jugs exclusively for holding ethanol free gas for pit bike and lawn mower or get extra diesel fuel on the rare instance it find it priced reasonably. Worth it to pay the extra for pails, a DQ once was all it took to learn my lesson.

Re: Fuel Jugs
I use the jugs from AI13 (their nozzles are outstanding) and I store fuel in them long term and still pass fuel check.
|
Re: Fuel Jugs
I use the metal can that comes with VP. Try to avoid pushing the spout in and out, it will crack.

Re: Fuel Jugs
The fuel jugs from Renegade Race Fuels are very thick and heavy duty. And square so they line up nicely.
|
Re: Fuel Jugs
Sun light rays penetrating through the jugs and hydrocarbons do not play well. Use caution.

Re: Fuel Jugs
Thanks guys, guess I'll go with the 5 gal metal ones. Appreciate the input.

Re: Fuel Jugs
I store diesel fuel prob 3-4 month at a time in yellow jugs purchased at Rural King. These are identical to a Mr. Gasket jug I bought thru Jeg's. We live in a pretty rural area and like to keep fuel around (20-30 gals) in case the store 8 miles away runs out. Next one is 20 miles. No problems with leaks yet.

Re: Fuel Jugs
Bought VP jugs 20 years ago and they are still good. Wonder who made them? They should have kept the old supplier.
