Strange Coincidence...... or...... ?
So a few weeks ago I send a torque convertor from NY to Trans Specialties in PA with Fedex..... usually that's one to two days tops.... get an email notification that the shipment is delayed..... never gets delivered.... gone... never seen or heard from again (including calling Fedex and putting a tracer on the package).
Last week I send a convertor to ATI.... same deal.... a day... two days tops.... get a notification its out for delivery.... doesn't get delivered.... get another notification that shipment is delayed............ Someone has to be stealing these things.... how the hell can a 25 pound converter get lost in a fedex truck. I have the serial numbers... if anyone should happen to see either an ATI 8" convertor or a Trans specialties 9" convertor on a for sale sight please give me a heads up. oh yeah.... and when you have to ship - don't use fedex |
Re: Strange Coincidence...... or...... ?
FedEx delays the past 90 days have effected our business exponentially.

I'm not doing a plug here, but I've always used the Postal Service or UPS. I wouldn't say either was great, but the packages arrived. I had a Mfg. say that UPS lost the money order I gave for there product and wanted me to pay them so I could fight UPS for money. P.S. that didn't happen. I heard other "horror stories" over the years. Sorry about you're shipping headaches. Respectfully, Henry Kunz 1534 H/SA |

Re: Strange Coincidence...... or...... ?
I have business accounts with FedEX, UPS and USPS.
Just sent a pair of aluminum cylinder heads via USPS due to being 25%-28% lower than FedEx and UPS, including insurance and signature confirmation. Fully agree, USPS and UPS are faster and more reliable than FedEx right now. |
Re: Strange Coincidence...... or...... ?
Fed Ex and UPS all deliver to our shop every day. Fed Ex has come to our shop in U-Haul vans, private vehicles, in uniform and in civilian clothes. UPS usually is in uniform, but have used U-Haul also.
Delivery is not consistent, can be anytime of the day. They all used to be morning delivery and on time. Not any more. USPS has been consistent, normal delivery, but we don't get freight from them. Agreed, the worker shortage is the biggest issue. Fed Ex has signs all over town offering to hire. Things are not in good shape.....country wise....Don't even ask me about product availability! We have turned into the Maytag repair man...not because stuff doesn't break, but because we can't get any product to break. #5458 Curt Rees |

I just had ten thousand dollars of Theater Subwoofers damaged by Fed Ex a couple weeks ago. Put two forks right through the side ! Had to be returned to the manufacturer and be repaired. Piss'ed the Legacy Audio folks off so much the owner of the company came to my house to look at them. He personally took them back to Illinois with him. I'm probably several weeks out from getting them back... I'm not much on Fed Ex. I used UPS whenever I can ..

Re: Strange Coincidence...... or...... ?
Most of our Fed Ex people look like " Federal Escaped" prison inmates and the vehicles are worse.

Re: Strange Coincidence...... or...... ?
We ship multiple items a day from small packages to large LTL freight.
Our preference is UPS for small package. A UPS employee picks up and delivers the package. With FedEx Ground, an independent contractor is the last mile for pickup and delivery. FedEx Ground and the independent contractors blame each other for lost packages and damages and no one will take responsibility. We do have good success with FedEx Express for keeping their promises, especially for exports. For LTL, we prefer FedEx Freight Priority. They are generally the best for keeping their promises. But they also have had issues recently. Sorry about your lost converters and hopefully they show up. |
Re: Strange Coincidence...... or...... ?
Ordered a pair of aluminum cyl. heads and they shipped FEDX...
When I got home from work they were in the yard next to the drive way, in the rain, with EDELBROCK ALUMINUM HEAD in big red letters (you know what an Edelbrock box looks like...) just waiting for the next vagrant going down the street to pick up! Probably would have took them directly to the scrap yard and got about 5 bucks!... I was sort of PO'ed... Have a friend with a business that gets stuff delivered and comes in mondays to find boxes chunked over the fence! |

Re: Strange Coincidence...... or...... ?
Probably not related, other than it's a Fedex story.
A friend in Florida has a machine shop and ordered around $150 worth of electronics a few weeks ago. It shipped Fedex and showed delivery a few days late. But he hadn't received it. He spent way too much time arguing with Fedex but finally got them to check into it. Turns out it had been delivered a couple of blocks down the road - to a nursing home. So he sends an employee to the nursing home to collect the package, a bit confused that they hadn't bothered to call and tell him they received his package. When asked, the people at the nursing home told him that they'd given it to his secretary when she came to get it the same day it arrived. He doesn't have a secretary. The shipment got replaced but I don't remember if it was by the company he dealt with or if fedex handled it. Anyhow, kinda funny that a random person would know that a package got delivered to the wrong address. |
Re: Strange Coincidence...... or...... ?
I guess shipping screw ups are becoming common. I had a package delivered a few months ago that was not mine. The street was correct but the house address wasn't even close. I called UPS and told them I received someone else's package. They took my info down and said they would have the package picked up. Didn't hear anything for 3 days. I finally delivered the package myself to the correct address about a mile away. The people there said they tried to report it missing but UPS said it was delivered. I told them UPS knew where it was for the last 3 days. No one from UPS ever called me back or showed up to pick up that package.

Re: Strange Coincidence...... or...... ?
I quit shipping in identifiable packages. A set of Brodix heads vanished into thin air right from the local XXX Terminal. Lucky they were on my account and I kept the receipt. They were in Brodix boxes and had my shop name/decal plastered on the side of the boxes. Someone knew what they were getting. Had it happen with an Edelbrock manifold box I used to ship some other parts. Use a ordinary box now, no names...

Just reading everyone's reply's should also make us aware to "Insure"- Everything being shipped. The guys from TSR once told me they shipped a complete Power Glide Transmission from New Hampshire to the state of Washington. Chris put it on a pallet, Strapped it down and then built a plywood box around it. A "said" carrier picked it up - about two weeks later the customer called to say he got his Transmission, it was in a Paper Bag! Thankfully the trans was insured. Respectfully, Henry Kunz 1534 H/SA |

My son broke a rocker arm on Hot Rod's Drag Week 2021.
We got in touch with the manufacture late in the day. Their UPS pickup had already happened, however they took it to UPS for overnight early delivery to Rochelle, IL. Shortly after 8:00 the UPS driver walked into the hotel lobby with our parts, almost thirty minutes ahead of the predicted delivery time. So good things can still happen. |
Re: Strange Coincidence...... or...... ?
If by choice, I never use FedEx, they are the only company to lose my shipments.
Last one was a coil spring compressor that I looked for weeks to find due to being on backorder. The vendor shipped the only one he had. When I got a notification it was delivered, I had to research because it wasn't on my doorstep. Even thought my address was on the package, it was delivered to Nevada, not New Jersey. They would not go back for it, and Although the vendor gave me my money back, I was beat. |
Re: Strange Coincidence...... or...... ?
I dropped of a package at the local UPS Service center in a box that UPS sells and is UPS approved/recommends---dropped it off at 5 pm and did a tracking the next AM about 730--- NO RECORD of a box that was 12x18x18--- I had a tracking number and everything it just vanished after I dropped it off AT UPS shipping counter ---not at a dealer or shipping service----at THE UPS district shipping facility----it supposedly went from the counter right into the UPS trailer 10 feet behind the counter I saw it it went into the trailer--- UPS had no explanation took me 3 months to get my money back they didn't want to do it but I called every day for the 3 months to get my money back --- I now ONLY ship INSURED no matter the value and must sign for delivery--- No more bullshi*t of leaving it on the porch or whatever-- they are all the same !!!! Re: Strange Coincidence...... or...... ?
I had a couple of street /strip converters send to me from another builder, via FedEx.Both made it to the freight terminal in Phx. At that point, one of them disappeared!! The shipper had them insured so he sent me another one.
My point is, I believe the riff- raff in the loading zone see torque converter on a box and they can't keep their grimy, would be racer's hands off it. I realize most of the big builders have advertising all over their shipping boxes. I don't know the solution here. I had daily UPS at one time, and never lost a thing. Just remembered..I had a display converter stolen at Edgewater. It was a bunch of mis-matched parts, and not welded together. It was useless to the thief. Again , I think torque converters are vulnerable , and a magnet to low life gear heads. |
Re: Strange Coincidence...... or...... ?
FYI
The United Nations was presented with a warning signed by the International Air Transport Association, International Road Transport Union, International Transport Workers Federation, and International Chamber of Shipping explaining an imminent collapse of the global supply chain due to Covid-19 restrictions, labor shortages, and overworked employees leaving. Snarled shipping lines are disrupting the movement of natural rubber, a key material used in tires as well as components under the hood. With the global supply already running short following stockpiling by China and a devastating leaf disease, rubber prices are on the rise and some U.S. auto suppliers are rushing to secure shipments before the market gets squeezed further. Chip shortages are estimated to cost the car industry $210 billion in lost revenue this year and will cause ordering and manufacturing delays to all parts with microprocessors in them from window switches on up to DME’s and much more. |
Re: Strange Coincidence...... or...... ?
There's an article in the Business Section of today's Houston Chronicle that FedEx is about to start testing driver-less trucks between Dallas and Houston.
