Sonoma Double in Jeopardy?
Heard a rumor yesterday possibly moving to Vegas?
I hope this is not true. |
Re: Sonoma Double in Jeopardy?
Las Vegas in July? 4:00 A.M. might be only 90 degrees.

Re: Sonoma Double in Jeopardy?
Hi Barry,
I heard the decision would be made in the next week. Sounds like we have a few races that may move around. (?) |
Re: Sonoma Double in Jeopardy?
Perhaps they will run the dbl div after the National in Sonoma.

Re: Sonoma Double in Jeopardy?
Very sad California can't move forward from Covid. California was always the Hotrod world. Now Pomona is closed, Fontana Auto Club Dragway is closed. Sonoma is up in the air. I think Bakersfield runs races. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but they won't work with NHRA anymore. Sacramento is owned by a grump. Majority of division 7 racers live in the state. I feel bad for my fellow racers from "the Golden State."

Re: Sonoma Double in Jeopardy?
This state wants us under the thumb of Newsom for ever, it’s sad and very frustrating. Wish I could get out but my business does now allow it currently, very sad. The country hates California but #2 and #3 in charge are from this whack job state, go figure that one.

Re: Sonoma Double in Jeopardy?
I feel sorry for my CA friends but, I don't see very much happening in the Golden State. Tooooooooooo many DemocRATS involved. They keep telling everyone, that they have your best interest at heart but does anyone really believe that????????

Re: Sonoma Double in Jeopardy?
I'll put a different and unfortunately ignored spin on the two above posts:
1. I don't hate California as it's the state that my favorite form of motorsport originated from. DJT showed how little he cared for your state with his responses to your state's wildfires last year! 2. If #45 would've responded to Covid the way #43 & #44 did with SARS, & Ebola, we probably wouldn't be having this thread or any like it (and racing would be going on as it should), but no one will realize or recall that huh? Interesting.... |

I feel bad for the racers in California. I don't see any racing there for the foreseeable future with the leadership they have in place there. Best thing for NHRA would be to move out of Cali and get to a more racer friendly location. |

Interstate 5 hates trailers/ rigs and cars.. This Covid episode gave them the power to hose business’s in Ca! The gov does not like any sort of racing. Calls it racist and toxic masculinity.. ok I’ll stop now.. I get on the chip quick.. Recall Recall Recall. It’s happnin! |
Re: Sonoma Double in Jeopardy?
You sure are right about interstate 5 Barry. I get sticker shock as well when I stop at a gas station. Not sure where all those fuel taxes go. It appears it's not for fixing the highways. The toll bridge is another special moment.

Re: Sonoma Double in Jeopardy?
Also hearing the Virginia National is in jeopardy and is actually posted on NHRA.com that it's postponed...I'm sure there will be something coming out shortly
|
Re: Sonoma Double in Jeopardy?
No spin needed on my post Gary, what I said are just the facts I live it every day, I would not wish Pelosi and Harris on anyone’s state no matter what your opinion is. No spin to that one, wish I was able to spin my slicks again with all the guys out here

Re: Sonoma Double in Jeopardy?
I think the Sonoma national will be open for entering next Wednesday. If the divisional races are in Jeopardy. I would fair guess so is the National.
|
Re: Sonoma Double in Jeopardy?
it's off the sonoma raceway website schedule. not a covid deal from what i understand.
|
Re: Sonoma Double in Jeopardy?
And the next race that may be in jeopardy is the Seattle national event.
Late last week the Seafair unlimited hydroplane race and air show in Seattle was cancelled. This Monday, May 3, the Columbia Cup unlimited hydroplane race and air show in the Tri-Cities in eastern Washington was cancelled. Both organizations cited the inflexibility of the governor (dictator) and the state Department of Health. So what do you think the odds are that the Seattle national event will be a go if Seafair can't get approval? |
Re: Sonoma Double in Jeopardy?
I think you are correct Bob. It's deeper than just covid. I heard Kyle Seipel is no longer there possible. Racing is worse for the California environment than the lack of water to the folks running the state. NHRA needs to move.

Re: Sonoma Double in Jeopardy?
As someone who intended to attend this race (and have several times in the past), it would be nice if this thread were to include useful information rather than turning into a political rant. Obviously, a lot of scheduling problem arose regarding racing schedules last year and continue into this one. I don't really care why or who is to blame, maybe we can concentrate on just useful information.

Since you brought up politics, I wish would have done some research for the facts instead of pointing fingers without facts or just not bring up the subject, understanding that you have the right to voice your opinion. The California fires did not have anything to do with Trump. As usual, irresponsible democrats leaders always blame Trump to cover their ineptitude. https://www.nationalreview.com/2020/...fires/#slide-1 As regards to SARS and Ebola, Obama did not have to do anything. There were only 11 cases of Ebola from 2014 to 2016. The pandemic was not worldwide, it was just in Africa. https://www.cdc.gov/vhf/ebola/histor..._1515001446180 When SARS hit the world, only 8000 cases in the USA and Obama was not even president at the time. It took place in 2003. https://www.who.int/health-topics/se...rome#tab=tab_1 Do not compare these events to COVID-19, which was created in a lab. It does not matter if Trump, Obama, Biden or whomever was in power at the time would have been able to contain it, especially when the country that create it the virus denied it for a long time. |

Re: Sonoma Double in Jeopardy?
GLENDORA, Calif. – The NHRA Pacific Division announced today a number of changes to events in the second half of the 2021 season. The continuing COVID-19 restrictions which have impacted us all since early 2020 have hampered our scheduling and as we move closer to gaining full release of these restrictions, we continue to work with our NHRA Member Tracks regarding not only drag racing events, but other events and opportunities that have risen to the forefront. This will unfortunately impact our Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series double-header events at Sonoma Raceway and Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park for 2021 and require rescheduling of those events, which in turn will also impact events at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Tucson Dragway.
The changes begin with the LODRS double-header originally scheduled for Sonoma Raceway July 15-18. This event will no longer work as planned in July and with limited dates available has required us to relocate the event to The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, another Speedway Motorsports family facility. The date for that event will be October 7-10. This will also mean a change to the Tucson Dragway LODRS event which will now be held one week later on October 14-15 and include a single-day National Open race on October 16. The LODRS double-header event at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park is moving from October to its new date of September 9-12. This change will impact the Division 7 JDRL Finals scheduled that same weekend in Las Vegas which will now be held one week later on September 17-19. “While it’s unfortunate to have to make changes this far into a season, and after how everything played out in 2020 with a busy fall, we felt these changes will least impact and benefit both the facilities involved and the racers attending our Division 7 events later this season,” said Pacific Division Director Mike Rice. “Division 7 is always the place to race for LODRS competitors at the end of the year and I look forward to the challenge these changes provide.” http://www.nhra.com/.../changes- |
Re: Sonoma Double in Jeopardy?
Being an owner of a race car in northern CA just keeps getting tougher and tougher...

Re: Sonoma Double in Jeopardy?
The thing that bothers me the most.....(besides that stupid and ignorant racial comment by BRIINK), is that Barry heard this rumor nearly a week ago yet we don't hear anything from our Division until today. People are trying to schedule vacations, work off time, repairs, etc and these calendar dates are critical to us for a number of reasons.
With regard to Gary's political remarks I completely disagree with nearly everything he says(in the political spectrum).....but I will fight to the end to defend his right to say it. This is not the right forum to have those arguments but they are indeed arguments that must be made....at the right place and time. I also believe that a fool has a right to make stupid statements in a public forum. Is this the right place for that one as well? I don't think so. For now, I will just stick to bitching about NHRA. Lord knows there's plenty of material to work with. |
Re: Sonoma Double in Jeopardy?
I know people get tired of me saying this but here in Texas racing has never stopped even in the beginning of the Covid deal. It just doesn’t pay to be a racer in a blue state.

Re: Sonoma Double in Jeopardy?
The dates for Tucson don't seem to add up. This press release says the divisional is Oct 14 and 15 (which is Thursday and Friday) with a one-day National Open on the 16th (Saturday).
But the full LODRS schedule, which has been updated, has the divisional on the 15th and 16th (Friday and Saturday). The National Open schedule shows Tucson as Oct 8 and 9, which is a Friday and Saturday. So is the one-day NO on Sunday the 17th, or Thursday the 14th? Or is the press release right? I'm confused. |

In case some of you aren't aware of this, the historical average high in Phoenix for that weekend...102 deg.

Re: Sonoma Double in Jeopardy?
Very frustrating for us on the west coast, this damn lock down seems like it won’t go away, tired of the freaking mask and being under a damn thumb all the time, just over it

Re: Sonoma Double in Jeopardy?
The divisional is moved but the Nat is still on? Or will it be on the chopping block too? This must be overwhelming for Jeff and Vegas employees. Now I know why my Sportsman buddies moved East. Move over Arnold Green!
