First 2 Northeast Division Events to be Rescheduled
Due to current Pandemic restrictions in the State of New Jersey, we are planning to reschedule the PC Richard.com National Open Series as well as the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Regional Events. As more information becomes available, we will update this site as well as Facebook.

Wonder if it will be rescheduled at another track. Atco transferred the Pan American race, one of the biggest races of the year, to Maple Grove. They stated it was due to covid, but it wasn't until July.
Makes you wonder if they are selling their big races to other tracks due to another another reason.

Guess time will tell.

About sick and tired of this. Do people plan on sitting at home for eternity with their mask to avoid a 0.7% fatality rate if you are over 70 ? You may as well just be dead if you are going to live life like this. Move it to Maple Grove then and get going. So glad I live in Florida

Dirt tracks have been running in NJ since mid June last summer, WITH plenty of spectators. Both high school and pro sports playing, and last time I checked, all of the big box stores are crammed with people. Something stinks in suburbia and it smells like bull****.

The question is. Is this due to Covid or that they are trying to become another English Town?

My opinion is it's because the sale of Atco is expected to be approved and not because of COVID restrictions....

I would be more than happy to be wrong.....WAY more than happy....

After losing Etown a few years ago losing Atco would hurt just as about as bad....

the covid rules for dragstrips in NJ are terrible. Island is fighting a big fine by the state of nj when they had an event with more than 400 total people. So i believe what atco is saying. is the track for sale, yes, but zoning has to be changed and then go back to pinelands commision for approval. island is not doing schedule yet last time i checked

Real Estate, Why would we need one of them. I thought it was an open invite to move in with you or Dan. I'd rather move in with you. Dan probably would expect me to work on his cars. BP

I listened in but too much legal land use that I didn't understand but IAA said that they were gonna store 7000 wrecked cars there if the sale goes through . But they ran out of time no decision was made they are gonna continue the meeting on March 1

I listened in for the last couple of hours. A lot of legal speak including liberally interpreting the use of the term "used car lot" vs junkyard. We all know what the majority of cars stored there are, totaled with salvageable titles. A couple of legitimate concerns were brought up including potential leakage(including overnight when, according to the IAA legal rep, there would be no employees present), and groundwater contamination. Another interesting point that was brought up was if employees needed to be OSHA Hazwoper trained(I am currently doing my annual 8 Hr refresher) in order to clean up any potential spills. Fire suppression in case of a large-scale fire was also mentioned, with the nearest hydrant over 2 miles away according to one commenter. As was preliminary ground sampling as well as environmental impacts to a local endangered tree frog and vegetation. The most contentious point of the night was the last one when one of the land use board members began grilling them on their application and how only a certain % of land in each lot may be changed and why they were attempting to do more than that. I may have the wording in that last part wrong, but that was the gist of it. In my assessment, the IAA team was not very well prepared for some of the questionings, stumbling around with some George Carlin-esque double talk, or just flat out not knowing the answer. It sure seemed to me that the land use guy is not a fan of this deal. Regardless, it went to 11 PM and it was adjourned until 3/1 at 7 PM. The public has not had a chance to comment yet and I hope that they make some impactful statements that have a negative effect on this deal.

Where did that picture of the loader pushing the wall down at Atco come from, and when was it taken? I see the date on the bottom, but it looks like that was the date of the picture taken by a cell phone.

That was most likely taken from their facebook page. Somebody screenshot it and put it on the atco memories page the other day.

That was taken 7 or 8 years ago.

They got the rain water run off catch basin all wrong . And they never addressed a possible electric car lith. Battery fire with push for more electric cars and no fire hose with water will stop that from lighting the other cars on fire and then the pine Forest on a nice hot windy day . They just want to plant trees along the roadway fence line to hide their pollution.

It seems, at this point, they're trying to keep it a dragstrip because it's the lesser of two evils, from the PPA's standpoint, at least.

So right now, the tree huggers are a racer's best friend. Kinda ironic.

I haven't seen this question raised, it may have been but I haven't seen it.
Did the current owner make any attempt to find a buyer(s) wanting to keep it as is?

Good question.

It seems someone in the dragracing media needs to contact the owner and do an interview.

The track has such a rich history that I would think the owner could at least provide the thousands of people who have patronized it with some information.

It's my understanding that offers from other buyers were made.

Yes, there were a few offers but, nothing in the amount that IAA was willing to offer to buy it. Rumor has it, the racers offer was around 6-7 million and IAA offer was around 11-12 million

If Atco does close, I wonder if NJMP would add a dragstrip? Easy for me to spend their money, and who knows what issues there would be. https://njmp.com

Re: ATCO dates reschedule

I live 10 minutes from NJMP and heard they have entertained the idea but, lots of factors. The track has already went bankrupt once and was sold off, the current owner from what I heard is a big road race guy and has little interest in drag racing. I also was told that the area they would build it would be a very small track, maybe even 1/8 mile as parking 500-600 rigs might be impossible. With NJMP they have townhomes / condos built that the racers leave their personal cars in throughout the year and they pay a yearly fee. I work PT at the Longhorn up the street from the track and we get ALOT of foreigners that come in to eat from Porsche clubs that fly over to help tune cars.

I also know that when the land was being developed they had a lot of pushback from the neighbors about the noise, including one neighbor that had exotic birds. It really is a shame because the town could use some extra income. If anyone knows Millville, Vineland, Bridgeton are all depressed areas and the main factory work has all but dried up, Wheaton glass, Progresso soup, etc. have all shut down or moved, About the only thing Millville is known for is Mike Trout the baseball player.

I kinda figured they didn't want any "greasy drag racers" around.
From their website, regarding their CEO:
"In 1999, Lee purchased a 1959 Elva Mark 5, participated in the Bertil Roos Driving School and went on to obtain his competition license through SVRA." I don't think the '59 Elva is in the guide, and I'll bet it's no "Dime Rocket".
