Prayers for Jeremy Waibel
This is a message so that our racing family knows what is going on and can offer up prayers.
Jeremy was hospitalized at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Lakeland Florida with a Staph infection under his left arm. Since he has been the hospital it has turned in MRSA. He is currently on heavy antibiotics, and he will be having surgery on Monday to cut and drain the site. Since he has been in the hospital, he has had two more sites under his right arm that have appeared. We have been struggling with blood pressure being to low as well as his pulse has been hovering in the 50's. We also have some issues regaurding a possible blood clot in his right arm. They did an ultrasound yesterday and we should know something later today about that. As soon as I have more info I will post it here so that you all can be kept up to date. This will by no means affect any of the plans at the track, in his absence I am setting up all the things that we have started, with his input of course. Hopefully he will be up and going shortly.... please keep our family in your prayers. Thanks Ramona Waibel Waibel Competition Wife of Jeremy Waibel |
Re: Prayers for Jeremy Waibel
Jeremy get well soon. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Sorry I
missed last Saturday night we had an air bag problem on the racecar. You know how a busted rubber can cause problems (lol). From what I hear the race track is going in the right direction and I am glad to hear that. How, I just need to get off my butt this morning and repair my racecar. See ya at the track. Re: Prayers for Jeremy Waibel
Well - they have definitivly said that Jeremy does have a blood clot in his right arm. They do not feel that he needs to be on blood thinner such as coumadin as of this minute, so they are dosing it with massive amount of asprin. We continue on antibiotics and we await surgery that will take place on Monday.
Luckily we have a connection to the internet here in the hospital, so when he is awake Jeremy is checking out class racer and working on the race in March. We are both very grateful for the love and support of our fellow racers, and look forward to being back with you all as soon as possible. Ramona Waibel P.S. If you all want to contact Jeremy, please PM me and I will give you the hospital information. I know he would be glad to hear from you all. |
Re: Prayers for Jeremy Waibel
Our prayers and thoughts are with Jeremy at this time ands always. Get well soon.

Re: Prayers for Jeremy Waibel
MRSA is bad news...it's a dangerous form of staph bacteria ,which stands for Methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus. It resists some of the more common antibiotics used to treat many infections.
A local 6 year old is in the hospital fighting this infection.....he was full of energy in the morning and in the hospital that afternoon. GET WELL JEREMY................... |
Re: Prayers for Jeremy Waibel
Jeremy, get well, live and walk in Faith. You are in my prayers!!!

Re: Prayers for Jeremy Waibel
Hope all goes well Jeremy, I would assume you get this MRSA from a cut or open wound that did not get cleaned? Any rate my cousin a couple of years ago was welding corral pannels and cut his arm and ended up getting a flesh eating virus and was in real bad shape. When he cut it he just wiped it on his shirt or pants and kept on working and by the next day he was all ready in bad shape. So to make a long story short he made out allright with no problems, the doctor he ended up with told him to keep peroxide or neosporin or any thing like that to clean any cuts imeadiatly to prevent any thing like that from happening. Need less to say he does and so do I. I keep a bottle of peroxide at work and allways pour it on any cuts I get from working on cars and I have not had any problems. I dont know if this would work against this MRSA but it could not hurt! Get well soon Jeremy. Trevor Weiss

Get well soon Jeremy, from team BackMotor, met you and Ramona at LMP at "the last drag race" July 22, 2007 talked with Ramona in the tower for a few, she's very nice, you were pitted near me, we have the rear engine fuel altered (soon to be Corvette funny car) stopped by your pit space and said Hi, you were real busy at the time, but you still took the time to say Hi and wished us good luck. Thanks, now I return the favor and wish you speedy recovery, get well, and come back to the races, we miss you man. Mike AKA: BackMotor

Re: Prayers for Jeremy Waibel
Ramona I was under the impression last time I saw jeremy he had enough alcohol in system to fight off any infection......maybe you are to take it externally for infection not internally....You never can trust those doctors you know. I talk to Jim he told me about ths staff infection did not seem to concerned at that time sorry to hear took turn for the worst we will keep Jeremy on the prayer list with Daran.....Daryl

Re: Prayers for Jeremy Waibel
Yeah about a month ago Jeremy had staph under his arm, we got it lanced and drained and it healed up real nice... then about a week ago now it started hurting again, and we had to go to the hospital after the Import event at LMP... cause he could not put his arm down. When we got here he had two more.. they cut them and then sent us home with antibiotics... LOL that was a joke... when we got here Wed to have the wound re checked, he had new ones.. Just seems to be one step forward and 3 backwards. Not to mention now he has a blood clot in his arm.
I am not sure about internally vs externally... alcohol seems to do a couple things of amazement for me 1. Some how I grow to be 10 foot tall and become bullet proof!!! 2. Makes me think that EVERYTHING is a GREAT idea !!!! (Surprised there have not been more hospital trips for me!!) Thanks for the support guys we really appreciate it. Jeremy and Ramona Waibel |
Re: Prayers for Jeremy Waibel
Well, we now possibily have a new blood clot in the other arm. LOVELY!!!
I am here to tell you that race car drivers are the worst patients!!! LOL Anyway, surgery is to happen in the morning, and we will let you all know that every thing is ok. Jeremy & Ramona Waibel |

Re: Prayers for Jeremy Waibel
Ramona, Which hospital is Jeremy in? If he is developing clots (emboli probably) should he be moved to a bigger center where interventional service is available now? Message coming to you.

Re: Prayers for Jeremy Waibel
Well I appreciate any and all concern. Jeremy is in Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Thanks so much. Message coming back at you Dick.
You know when it rains it pours... when I went to get the boys from one baby sitter to go to another one, we found that Joshua (our youngest) had a place on his stomach.. so I have had him in the ER for the past couple of hours and we have him on antibiotics now for STAPH!!!!! We are supposed to take him back if it gets worse, or in 3 das to make sure that they antibiotics are working. Ramona Waibel |
Re: Prayers for Jeremy Waibel
Well as of 12:30 pm Monday, Jeremy has underwent surgery, and I spoke to the Dr. who performed the surgery and he said that he feels Jeremy will do good. They sent off some more blood cultures, as well as sending it off to pathology. He should be back in his room soon. We will keep you upated as we have more information.

Re: Prayers for Jeremy Waibel
Well, things are going ok. It is midnight and about an hour ago they ave Jeremy 4mg of morphine for the pain... then they ha to come in a do a dressing change. They had to leave the incision open so that infection would not settle in there so they are doing a wet to dry dressing.. it was not good at all. Currently he is resting.
As for our son Joshua, I had to have him back at the hospital tonight. His site had grown considerably since last night, and they had to lance and drain it. Wow... 7 yr old was NOT HAPPY!!!! He is resting at home now. Hope fully that will take care of the problem and we will not have any further issues from that. Wow I am one tired woman!!! I bid you all a good night..... More updates as they become available. Ramona Waibel |
Re: Prayers for Jeremy Waibel
Damn Ramona! I only wish we could do more for you guys! Hug the boys and tell them we are all with them (and you). Jim

Re: Prayers for Jeremy Waibel
Still thinking of you guys, and hoping to hear a good report soon !! Please update us when you can, keep the faith. Mike

Re: Prayers for Jeremy Waibel
Well... it is Tuesday evening and we are doing seemingly well... I think. We have not had any new news from the Dr. except they are watching the surgicial site for infection.
We had Joshua back in the ER last night and they had to lance to place on his side. I took him to his pediatrician today, and she said he had to stay out of school (DUH). She also changed his antibiotics so that we can hopefully nip this before it gets worse. Joshua is not hospitalized at this point and hopefully we can keep it that way. More when we know more Ramona Waibel |
Re: Prayers for Jeremy Waibel
Thanks for the update. Keep up head up and we'll keep you guys in our prayers.

Re: Prayers for Jeremy Waibel
Wednesday Morning: (This is worse than a soap opera)
We are awaiting to see a Dr., hopefully they will allow Jeremy to go home, however, I am concerned that he will be leaving the hospital with a 2" long and 11/2" deep hole under his arm that will have to be packed and unpacked every 12 hours. This is mildly disturbing... any of you with medical knowledge think that is a common practice? Dont we increase the chance for infection? Joshua is doing well on his antibiotics and we are hoping to have to results of his cultures in at some point today... More when we know Ramona Waibel |
Re: Prayers for Jeremy Waibel
Ramona,
I've tried to reach you. I'm worried about all of you. Please give me a call when you get a chance. You may want to call Mike. He's a paramedic and his wife is a nurse. Doug |
Re: Prayers for Jeremy Waibel
Doug -
Yes I have been on the phone ALOT... Well the good news is that they are going to let Jeremy go home today at some point. They are going to have a home health care nurse come to the house to change the dressings and packing.... Joshua's results came back and he definitly tested positive to MRSA. His strain is resistant to Amoxicillian, Euyomiacin and most of the cillians... Will keep you posted on progress.... I am available now, call me 863-808-7897. Ramona Waibel |
Re: Prayers for Jeremy Waibel
If the hospital hasnt suggested it, consider a strong disenfectant cleaning of everything in and around your house now and daily until everyone is cured. Get gloves and gown to do it. Get their instructions even better.
|
Re: Prayers for Jeremy Waibel
Patients with MRSA should be physically isolated in a single room with the door remaining closed and the room regularly damp dusted, or they should be nursed in a special ward away from other non-infected patients. The patient's notes should be clearly labelled 'MRSA' so that this type of accommodation is provided if and when they are admitted to hospital at any time in the future. It is important that the clinician looking after the patient in hospital notifies the general practitioner. If this has not already been done, then the patient or their family should mention to their general practitioner that they are carrying MRSA. This information should also be passed to any hospital to which the patient may be admitted in the future to ensure physical separation or isolation immediately on admission and hence reduce the possibility of spread to others. The use of antibiotics such as those applied inside the nose and bathing procedures previously described, will also help to reduce the risk of spread. Finally, when such a patient is discharged from hospital, their room should be comprehensively cleaned and all linen and other clinical waste disposed of in special bags.

Re: Prayers for Jeremy Waibel
Glad to hear you are home and making progress. Just be careful to step lightly around Ramona, don't want to hear about you making another trip back to the hospital. Hope your recovery continues to go well.

Re: Prayers for Jeremy Waibel
Hey Jeremy and family, glad to hear you are home from the hospital, hope life gets back to normal quickly now that you're home. When you feel up to it, I'd like to hear more about that big meet in March (orange blossom nats) We'd like to run it with our funny car, exhibition, match race, or even just bracket race it. We need like 45 min turn around time, between runs, kinda hard to do that in brackets. Like to talk to you about it, and other track stuff when you feel up to it :D Take it easy, Mike
