New information on 5.00 gears for GM
I spoke to a different supplier at SEMA this year and unlike Richmond they appear to be very interested in working with us to develop 5.00 gears for GM cars. You may remember that Richmond wanted us to buy a minimum of 50 units to get the project off the ground. I was ready to make that committment, but many folks balked at the price of "purpose built" gears. 5.00 gears from this supplier will not be at bargain basement prices either but the new supplier wants to work with us to get this done. It may take 4 or 5 months before they become available, that is, if they decide to make them.
It would be helpful for those of you who are interested to add your two cents worth. Thanks |

Re: New information on 5.00 gears for GM
I believe the supplier is considering the 8620 gears for the GM 12 bolt. But they are in business to make money so if the demand is there for 9310 gears they will probably listen. These folks are a very pleasant surprise in the world of performance parts.

Re: New information on 5.00 gears for GM
The supplier is running the cost numbers and discussing the gears with his engineering staff. I should have some feedback before the PRI Show.

Re: New information on 5.00 gears for GM
Just a quick message to the racers who have sent messages to me about these gears. Please add your names to this thread. Then I will ask the supplier to come visit this site for proof of interest.
Thanks again. |
Re: New information on 5.00 gears for GM
I think it would be a good thing, as long as the manufacturer goes with the preferred tooth counts on the gears to achieve the ratios, E.G. 4.11 is 39-9 tooth count vs. a 4.10 is 41-10
A 5.00 gear could be 10-50 or 9-45, the 9-45 tooth count being stronger of course...... I never could understand why anyone produced the 4.10 and 4.30 ratio's when you could have 4.11's and 4.33's with stronger teeth......must have had something to do with noise or something. ????? |
