Today we lost a real original Sammy Pizzolato. World Champ 1988 died from complications with Covid 19, along with other problems. He will be missed by all who knew him. More information as it becomes available.

Damn I really hate hearing this. Only meet him once but was a pleasure to talk to in lanes at Indy. Kept hoping I could get my car fast enough to give him a race. He will be missed. RIP Sammy.

Very sad news, Sammy has a wealth of racing history to his credit, Great guy, Great racer and general car nut, Allways willing to help anyone at the track. RIP Sammy you will be missed

Although I never personally met him, I definitely looked up to him. A ton of accomplishments and had a heckuva fast 455 Olds.

Oh my gosh, this is such a shock. Sammy was my friend, we had so many good times, hanging out at the track, talking on the phone, we had so much in common. There are no words to describe how much I will miss him. I want to send my most sincere and kindest regards to his wife, children, and his sisters. RIP my pal, you will never be forgotten.

Oh, no! Sammy was always one of my favorites. I recently ran into the best friend of his wife in Wash DC and we had great laughs talking about him. So sad. Prayers for his family. The Dago is gone to fish in a much better place!

We lost a great racer and my friend. Sad news. How did we meet? My first Indy when all the rigs were stacked in the grass field, Jane had made a large gumbo in the rig. Not wanting to waste, she sent me out to find a Louisana plate and invite them over. You guessed it Sammy and Dago!!! Sure will miss him. Stephen

Unfortunately I never met him, but I knew all about him. A sharp racer with fast Oldsmobile's. I've been a fan of Olds, Pontiac, and Buick race cars since I was a kid. My sympathies to his family, and friends.

RIP Sammy , met him once, he and I ran the same combo in our cars(400/427) , Sad and certainly surprised that he has passed. Seems like just yesterday he was posting on here. May his family and friends be comforted at this time.

He was a champion in many ways

I met him in1992. He was a legend then and for ever will be in my mind. God speed Mr.Pizzolato.

I never had the pleasure to meet him. Anytime I heard or read his name, World Champion came to mind first. Rest in Peace Champ.

So sad, I’ll never forget at Graceland him saying to the ticket guy, “thank you ,thank you very much” in his great Elvis voice. Great racer! Nicer person.
