Las Vegas races
Looking at LVMS site, the are not letting in any spectators for all 4 of the races.Yet all the casino's are open. Anyone have any first hand knowledge? It also says you have to stay in your pits except to run and teams & crews can only enter and leave together. I always go and buy a crew pass and just cruise around taking pics.

No Class racing. Why......

Re: Las Vegas races
Things change but I thought NHRA would not run a National event with no spectators.

Re: Las Vegas races
LVMS is an expensive track to operate.
They can not make money without spectators. I would not be surprised to seen them cancelled everything if no spectators by then OR at least the Nationals at a minimum. It would destroy our points and entry Stats for this year = AND will not have grade points to race Nationals next year. |
Re: Las Vegas races
Rumor floating around Gainesville this weekend is if Las Vegas doesn't happen the Finals will be moved to FLA.

That being said as long as the casinos are open in Las Vegas I would think not allowing spectators at an outdoor event seems a little far out. But again this is 2020. |

Re: Las Vegas races
The track wanted or tried for 15,000 fans at the Nascar race this weekend and got zero.

They can not make money without spectators. John, it is an expensive track to operate because it is one of the best.... of course, they depend on spectators to spend money, and GAMBLE. That is what they do, and do it well. |

Re: Las Vegas races
LVMS and several other major NASCAR and NHRA tracks are owned and controlled by Speedway Motorsports which really is the same as saying Bruton Smith and his son.
They have learned that in the world as it is today it is possible to put on a show without spectators and still make money. Television and Covid 19 restrictions are the key factors. Casino's and how they operate have almost nothing to do with how they make their decisions. It's all about the show. NHRA now has a new major sponsor so they are feeling better on their side of the problem. Stay tuned. |
Re: Las Vegas races
Explain how Casino's go by the Gambling commission but a race track has to follow state guidelines concerning the Chinese virus?

Tickets for the National Event are for sale...

Re: Las Vegas races
My sources, which have been 100% accurate with cancellations and reschedules have told me the Vegas National will most likely be cancelled and there will not be another event anywhere in its place. We shall see. I’m hoping they are wrong for the first time this season!

Re: Las Vegas races
Multiple sources on Twitter yesterday, and at least one division director today, have stated that the Vegas national is a go!

Re: Las Vegas races
The wife looked at LVMS fakebook page and it says they will be allowed spectators and the National Event race is going to take place.
All good news for the racers. 3 weekends in a row of races. Rick Cates Canyon, TX |
Re: Las Vegas races
Great news, fans have been approved for the Dodge NHRA Finals presented by Pennzoil Oct. 30-Nov.1! This will be the first fan-attended event in professionals sports in Nevada since the onset of the pandemic.
Tickets are on sale. Get yours today: https://bit.ly/2SZKWnT |
Re: Las Vegas races
The facility is allowed by the state of Nevada and county officials to have 10% of stated capacity, which equates to 5,000 spectators. That was apparently enough to let NHRA give the go-ahead for the event.
