“Live” from Earlville, Iowa

After getting beat first round yesterday in Indy, we drove the almost 400 miles here to Earlville. It is a double combo here this weekend. Details are in the post from Midwest Class Racers. We rolled in just after dark to a distinct smell of pig poop!! I guess you kinda get used to it since I can’t smell it now! Anyway, we just drove in and parked then went out and paid this morning! We have already made one of our 2 time trials for today and it was wasted! After 1.33 60’ yesterday at Indy, we went to a 2.11 today. So Larry is backing everything down to get our next run. Hope it is good since the next run we will be racing!

Anyway, more later!!

Well we are packing up to go home!! We backed every thing down and got an ok 2nd run. There were no more Adjustments left for a slick track. Then first round we were back to a 2.12 60’. This used to be a place we would tell people to put on their bucket list. Now just put your money in your bucket!! You can tell the track is for sale when they won’t spend any money on it. So this is the last of our money they will get. We had planned on running again tomorrow then staying all week and running the divisional next week. But that is not happening! Earlville is not getting any more of our money!!

That's probably the shortest "Live" from thread ever, that's a shame, safe travels home. 60' like that will break stuff.

That is sad to hear. EarIville was the place to be in years past.

Well I’m just the opposite! I have my SS-FM here and it’s 60s are as good as the Indy points meet , i think they try hard for a small Midwest track , I’m sorry Larry you guys had a bad time

I know I will get flamed here but when you show up for a race everybody there has the same track conditions to deal with good or bad. It's your race car so it's your responsibility to get the car down the track.

Larry, I'm sure you loosened the rear shocks?

I thought the track was pretty good.

1.47 60 FT for me is among the better ones.Maybe it is the tires?

I have great luck with Hoosier, but those Goodyear tires "lean to the left"

Ralph, you should try it sometime! Maybe your opinion would change.

I did for many years even with the 10.5 tire rule in NHRA Super Modified!

I served my time in C/SM too. Ancient history. What have you done lately..... other than criticize people who are actually racing today?

cobra jet had one of its best 60 foot ever and went 1.36 under

Re: “Live” from Earlville, Iowa

You are correct it’s my responsibility to get down the track, I just was not smart enough to figure how I loaded my car wrong leaving Indy. It was not great but it did win class.
I made all the adjustments to make it work on a marginal track. When that didn’t work I went home. My suspicion is that the track has uses something other than PJ1.
Put 300 pounds in your driver’s seat and try it. It’s just like Monday morning quarterbacking only different

That one of the most silly things I have ever read! Larry and the twins are some of the best track prep in the racing world!!!

We are home now! Good luck to all this week at the points race. First thing I will be doing is checking the car to see if anything is out of adjustment and will scale pre-Indy.

What is your % of weight on Front and on rear? And how much do you have that you can move f to r and r to f? Just curious.
Thanks

I did not have trouble. Other than 1st run saturday morning. I was 6th pair down for the day. Not just our class. So, cold track. I did see others troubles throughout the day.

Re: “Live” from Earlville, Iowa

Larry not many understand trying to hook 600 plus hp on 9 inch tires without a traction arm that goes to the center of the car or a 4 link. This year has been tough on tracks trying to make money. Traction compound is one of the few places they can cut and save money. I've been ok but I have watched several spin at different tracks with heads up runs. BP

Its all about prepping the track the right way--some do some dont--most if not all national events--nhra knows how to prep a track--stockers tell nhra its time to make a 10.5 inch meat an option-

When you smell pig sh— you know you have tail wind just thinking. My 60’s were good but the 60 ft timer is a bit short there

First off ,We would like to thank all the racers who attended our race at Earlville. Our groups have worked hard to provide races with outstanding payouts and attendance. Our goal is to provide great races with great payouts and again, we thank everyone for supporting them. We hope that because of some starting line issues , this race and the track don't get bad reviews. When you have 120 plus S/SS cars for 3 rounds, pounding on the starting line, it would be hard to keep it in optimal condition. Could we have done better, Yes Our plan going forward is to be able to avoid these problems. I would like to apologize to those that were affected . Thanks Bob

Curtis I too believe the 60’s were short .01-.02. If a person had a wheel speed car the track was perfect. Mine is a dead hook car so not a good match

thanks for the reply. these are tough times
track prep has become such a delicate balance in this day and age. nothing like the old days, asphalt starting line, ruts and a little rosin

How is the pit area looking after all the rain? Weather looks good for Sunday.
