Anybody out there MISS the Torrence family at Pomona ?
Anybody ?????

Re: Anybody out there MISS the Torrence family at Pomona ?
I was there all day today-didn't miss them a bit. In fact, I would have been happy to miss all the fool activity so I could see the Nostalgia Pro Stock cars run-which I went to see-as usual NHRA took my money and did not deliver. Cars were at the head of the lanes and ready and then were sent back to their pits because the fool cars ran long.
I hate NHRA |
Re: Anybody out there MISS the Torrence family at Pomona ?
Torrance family does a lot for the t/f class. Like them or not, they are good for the class. Now as for the NHRA?#@*

Who? Are you talking about the guy that acted like a Bit&h last year?

I am a life long stock/superstock enthusiast (former competitor a long time ago) and when I dedicate a Saturday off work and spend money for something that is yanked away right as it is about to begin-I am disappointed and pissed. I haven't gone to an No Hot Rods Allowed event at Pomona in over ten years-and won't bother going again. I can sit in my living room and watch fool cars oil the track and hold up the real cars. I read on this forum some years ago that they are just a mechanical rain delay-and today it was completely true. |

Like love him or hate him Steve is a passionate driver. The passion sometimes bubbles up in ways that are unacceptable. I never liked Dale Bernhardt, but he was great for NASCAR. |
Re: Anybody out there MISS the Torrence family at Pomona ?
NHRA has built it's entire marketing plan around the Torrences, the Kalittas, Schumacher and Force. I wouldn't think that this would be a comfortable situation to be in.

Re: Anybody out there MISS the Torrence family at Pomona ?
Not the least bit...
That being said, I will acknowledge that they do have their place in the sport/hobby. I think he's doing way more harm to his already blemished image with the vague explanation for their absence though. If what is being said is true about the protest for his punishment, I think it's in poor taste for the other teams to sit out as well if that's the case. I sincerely hope that's not the reason for the absence, and that NHRA doesn't give into them. |
Re: Anybody out there MISS the Torrence family at Pomona ?
I don't think the other teams have that choice, they may not be able to get there or run without the Torrance team.

Hmmmm, 13 Top Fuel cars for a 16 car field, and more than a full field for Pro Stock. Maybe NHRA should let the Pro Stockers run the entire series again, and only have top Fuel at "select" events, like they did when Pro Stock had less than full fields. Yeah, thats gonna happen!

Yeppers, missed them just as much as I miss the Gray’s...

Re: Anybody out there MISS the Torrence family at Pomona ?
Buddy of mine posted a picture on FB yesterday of both Torrence rigs parked by White Horse Pass.

Also, Scott Palmer, and Jeff Diehl's teams get racetrack help from the Torrence teams. |

Re: Anybody out there MISS the Torrence family at Pomona ?
I saw ST offer an apology from the podium. Then explain how tough it was for him to stand up there and do it. In an on track interview, CF said he hasn`t spoken to ST since their incident. Somehow, I couldn`t help but think how funny it would look with that cowboy hat pulled down over his ears.

Re: Anybody out there MISS the Torrence family at Pomona ?
Steve Torrence is simply a spoiled, entitled brat. If he wouldn't have turned and run like a little girl, maybe Ferre would have had a chance to pop him a good one.

Re: Anybody out there MISS the Torrence family at Pomona ?
Did the vintage Pro Stock cars ever get to run for the big 50 years of Pro Stock celebration?
I wasn't paying attention. |

Re: Anybody out there MISS the Torrence family at Pomona ?
Torrence Racing released a statement citing their lack of attendance at Pomona. It sounds as if they expected some kind of special treatment as Steve was appealing NHRA's decision on punishment. The fact is he got off really easy for what he did.

Re: Anybody out there MISS the Torrence family at Pomona ?
John, in the old days Connie Kaliita, Ed McColough(sp),John Force and a number of others would not have stopped or been stopped before the fight was bloody.

Re: Anybody out there MISS the Torrence family at Pomona ?
As much of a little bitch I think he is. I have to agree a little with there complaint that the fine was for action detrimental to the sport. Then NHRA made sure to publicize the hell out of the video footage. If it was detrimental to the sport you would think the NHRA would be burning the video and hiding the evidence.
On a side note Tony Schumacher was going on about how they needed to be there no mater what and how he would never do this. As he starts his second season of not racing. If he is serous throw some battery charger logos on the side and get out there. The Capco team is pretty much self funded I would think Schumacher has the funds |
Re: Anybody out there MISS the Torrence family at Pomona ?
Have always respected how Lagana conducts himself, can’t help but wonder if he isn’t trying to teach his driver a few things. Actually suspected Torrence was too full of himself to attend any behavior correction course and simply dug in and is trying to teach NHRA a lesson.
But no, DS is too smart to fund a fuel car out of his own pocket. |

that are important to NHRA's bottom line and that can get away with this sort of Behavior! Probably just as well we are just peons and not Stars= No Secret that you and I don't get along and would have been probably mixed it up years ago !! BTW: It is Connie Kalitta and Ed McCulloch is the spelling of their names. |
Re: Anybody out there MISS the Torrence family at Pomona ?
John, I don't know why you would think we don't get along. Just because we disagree on this point. I have purchased parts from you, talked to you at the track(been years though). I follow and root for You and Jr..and only wish you the best. This in no way was or is meant to create problems. I was just making a statement that in the old days, even in the pro ranks, fights happened and usually worse than this one.

Re: Anybody out there MISS the Torrence family at Pomona ?
If I recall correctly, there was an incident at an IHRA event roughly 15 years ago that involved a couple of racers/crew in a physical altercation. I think a may have protest started it all. I haven't seen the racer that was involved ever since.

Re: Anybody out there MISS the Torrence family at Pomona ?
John, I did go back and read that post. You are correct, it was not intended, but did sound derogatory and I apologize to you mostly and also to anyone that read it. John is and always has been a stand up guy, a good family man and a damn good racer. I can only hope none of my words in the post effected him negatively. The post HAS been deleted!

My main regret about Tanner is Erica didn't get to take him out in their rnd 2 race at the World Finals (if only her car ran the 6.517 she ran in rnd 1, in rnd 2). He got her by .02 off the line, but they both slowed to 6.56's. |
Re: Anybody out there MISS the Torrence family at Pomona ?
Tanner is my regret also, but Grandpa, Dad and Aunt I think are pretty good people.
