Stock Eliminator
I am one of the few who was there in 1972 when Super Stock and Stock rules were changed. It was at that time I purchased a 1965 Chevrolet Biscayne 283 2bbl and went to work. All you were allowed to do was blueprint the engine. You were allowed to use slicks if they had a tread pattern. That was when drag racing was fun.
Now to address the class vs. bracket racing discussion. I hate to point this out but if you can run .01 under the index you are a bracket racer. A good corporate plan would be for NHRA to set up at least 10 brackets and lets go bracket racing and have fun. Oh, I forgot, class racing is all about EGO. I can go faster than you, look at me, am I not something. The only thing I need is a W on the time slip to feed my EGO. Oh yes, I have been in five national finals and have two wins. In 1974 and 1975 I raced at least fifty times each year. I am one of the few stock racers who can say they reported earning a profit on his income tax racing. Today, it costs 16K for a stock engine and 60K for a Super Stock engine. In stock today you can have any duration cam that will work in the engine, any spring that will fit the pocket, heads that cost 5K, any corporate transmission, any corporate third member on and on. What say me?
Well, that's a rather broad question ain't it Sarge? Ya know, even here in the 21St Century, Stock Eliminator still has a place and a combo for everybody. And ya know, Bracket Racing has become so specialized that unless you're running for trophies at your local track, there really ain't much of a place for "everybody" anymore. If you want to do a brand new factory car and can afford it, go for it! If you can only afford a Omni or a Cobalt, go for it! In Stock Eliminator, they both have the same chance to win. The way I look at it, you can either get off of your wallet or get off of your arse. |
Re: Stock Eliminator
All about Ego?? No actually it’s about fun, people who like to play by a certain set of rules, a rule book, people who like the competition. Is it hard? Yes it is, is it expensive? Yes, it’s not for everyone
Now if we wanted to bracket race we would, no offense but it seems that it’s been a while since you have raced, if you want to bracket race then go for it, otherwise stop preaching, us “class Racer’s” choose to do this not to be chastised because of the general cost of it. And if you think building a nice bracket car is any cheaper your wrong Just my two cents Tim |

IHRA ran them and NHRA refused to support those classes. |

Those "good ole days".

Re: Stock Eliminator
Oh boy, never, ever tell a stocker he is nothing more than a bracket racer. 😂

You have spent more monies on your "Pure" Stocker than I have in any of my "Real" Stockers. It's done and gone. And they've proven that the worlds not flat and the moon isn't made of cheese. |

A "good" crate motor car would be every bit as expensive as a "good" conventional stocker....... |

Re: Stock Eliminator
I think the OP exaggerates almost every one of his "facts". Maybe, you can spend $60k on a SS engine, but do you need to, of course not. I doubt there are any $5k stock heads except for maybe some of the really rare stuff. Plenty of inexpensive combo's out there, but it's not the good old days:rolleyes:

Re: Stock Eliminator
I believe it cost me 2500-3000 in 1979 for a complete Ritter and Weber engine.Yes sadly I spend a couple dollars more now. Most of it for myself ends up in the short block. New crank and rods weren't something needed 50 years ago.Still don't spend 5 in the heads. Maybe Aluminum heads are costly. Have no clue. I'm not into that part of stock. An aluminum intake cost me enough to stay away. Every piece on the cars today are more. Buy a wheel.
I surely don't miss a ballast resistor burning out at the wrong time or putting a pushrod through a rocker arm in the burnout. Glad those days are gone. Paul Haszlauer C/SA 7019 |
Re: Stock Eliminator
Sarge bracket racing is a weekly program
Can race any where with any car. Class racing is not bracket racing .have to have a legal rear to race. Billy please continue to point out to Delusion Dan ..Pure Stock don’t count Thank god Nhra is a little picky with what a stocker usually the people bitching about the cost are the same people racing on the keyboard.. it’s cheaper |

I am never going to stop. Interesting I get blamed because I do not spend enough money on my car. Then you come along, complain I spend more on my car then yours. All you have is a Pure Stocker with a anything goes cam !! Do you at least wash it ? Then other posts others complain about the cost of Stock Eliminator Racing is too expensive and looking for suggestions. Hell NHRA still not allowing CM cars which is logical solution. Then complain about new racer are not being attracted to Class Racing. So you guys chase Class racers away. Then complain they do not follow you after you pummel them. So guys get together and get your arguments straight. They are all over the place. I love racing and bought my car new. Played with it every year..until it could run Stock. FWIW I can still put in my street gears, AC, and street tires on. AND just walk away from you Noobs ! Which is what most of the IHRA Class racers did ! Hello GUMP: Yes Division 2 Opens do allow Pure Stockers...! I am planning to Tow up to the Canadian NHRA Opens races at Napierville and Miramachi. Wondering if the Opens in US allow Pure Stockers? Because if they do I am racing there. I will take my business where it is wanted. Dan |

I am never going to stop. Oh please, do us the favor! Interesting I get blamed because I do not spend enough money on my car. Then you come along, complain I spend more on my car then yours. I didn't "complain" that you spend more money on your car than I do, I stated a fact. All you have is a Pure Stocker with a anything goes cam !! Do you at least wash it ? I wash it once or twice a year whether it needs it or not. I ain't there for best appearing. Then complain about new racer are not being attracted to Class Racing. So you guys chase Class racers away. Then complain they do not follow you after you pummel them. Who's "pummeling" new Racers? FWIW I can still put in my street gears, AC, and street tires on. AND just walk away from you Noobs ! Yeah, yeah, yeah, I could take the gears outta my stuff too and go for rides with the grand kids. I've got other cars for that. But it sure sounds like a good idea for you to do just that. I will take my business where it is wanted. Please do! |

Re: Stock Eliminator
Not being chased away. I'm a previous S/ST S/G racer moving into stock. I like working on my car and having real glass and roll up windows. Is it expensive, yep, about double what my S/G car cost. $5K heads yeah they can get there. But it my choice on how much I spend and I plan on having a good time. Will I run brackets with a stock eliminator car, sure and maybe some D-gas and super street as well.
I am building a car that I will enjoy and not worry about the amount of money I can get out of winnings. After I'm done racing a few alterations and it can be back on the street. |
