Unused race cars, too
How many Stock/Super Stock cars do you think are just setting, ready to go, maybe just needing updated belts, or a new set of slicks? I'm guessing that only 17% of cars are being run, and there are 5 cars setting for every 1 that is being raced. In my case, for example, I'm only set up to move 1 car, so my Super Bee pretty much sets while I run the Mirada. I did run the Super Bee at a couple of local races, but it hasn't been to an NHRA race in years. Others?

Re: Unused race cars, too
Yeah, I've got some stuff just lying around.

Re: Unused race cars, too
I have one S/S car that needs a motor put in it, and an S/S GT car that needs the stuff you stated (pair of slicks, belts, and other misc safety items). I'll probably .90 race this year instead.

Re: Unused race cars, too
I'd guess about 90% of the cars that get posted on the Facebook page Ford S/SS class cars haven't seen the light of day in years.

Re: Unused race cars, too

Re: Unused race cars, too
We have 6 Sportman/Pro Bracket cars sitting
( We do not bracket race last couple years ) We have a couple Stock and a Superstocker sitting ( Oldest boy only offroad races anymore) One Street Outlaw type car One Dragster All Mopar cars or power Opps .....forgot a 80 Dodge truck stocker also. |
Re: Unused race cars, too
I read an editorial in a car magazine one time that said if you have a car that is just setting and has been for 10 years, then you owe it to the car community to sell it. However, I also think that there is value in taking a look out in your garage and thinking to yourself, "That's mine!"

Greg - let me know if you need someone to exercise the Super Bee! lol

Re: Unused race cars, too
So 1100 stock racers is 17%? I know not every racer has a car but it isn’t that much sharing! So you want to say there’s 6600 stock or super stock legal out there??

Re: Unused race cars, too
None of my 6 bracket cars were raced last year. :(
( 3 are class cars) The only thing I bracket raced was my daily |
Re: Unused race cars, too
Yes as to the 6600 cars. Perhaps not as ready as new belts and tires, but yes. after I posted this, I have had people texting me about cars that I have not thought of in years that are just setting.
Along these same lines, I wonder what happened to all of the '63-'67 Corvettes that used to run in Modified. Have all of these cars been restored back to original, or are there cars and cars just setting, not being raced? |
Re: Unused race cars, too
The older the "new factory cars" get, they might be sitting due to cost of engine updates. I know if I had more than one car I would be inviting friends or family to enter them. Mark C. has three cars in div. 1 and he seems to be having a great time.

Old videos shows a bunch of the mid 60's Vettes in Modified Eliminator. Cool looking cars. I just wonder where they ended up at because Corvettes like that are not exactly a disposable type race car ( compared to say a Vega) |

Re: Unused race cars, too
Recently we have lost quite a few super stock cars here in FL. All retired from racing and sold their cars. Eddie Diaz, Pat Clifford, Rebel Kid, Kenny McCoy just to name a few. Merril Schrimsher has his beautiful 66 Chevy II up for sale. Paul Forte has not run his car in quite a long while. My buddy Jay Slane has had some health issues that have kept him from racing much for the past 3 years. He is recovering from knee replacement surgery right now and hopes to be back out racing some later in the year. Haven't seen John Douglas racing in a few years and he was a die hard racer. Not sure what happened to John. Tony Conte still has his SS/AS Camaro but he has not been racing much either. Probably close to retiring seeing he is in his late 70's.
I am sure it is similar in Stock but I don't keep up with them as much. |
Re: Unused race cars, too
About those 63-67 Corvettes or even 57-62 i bet many of them got turned into Super Class cars with with tube chassis and what every part left over were sold in swap meets and in the hands of "collectors".

Re: Unused race cars, too
My boy finished in top 5 in Superstock and won a Divisional with Kenny
McCoy's old Duster our here in Div. 7. Kenny and his family came out and ran it last year at Vegas Divisional and hopefully will get out again and run it this year! He is a great guy and the car went to a good home. |

My overhead door guy told me last summer he sees more race cars mothballed in garages than those that are still being campaigned

Re: Unused race cars, too
[QUOTE=Jim Wahl;606547]Kenny is one of the nicest and talented racers you could ever know and we miss seeing him race down here in D2. I hope he is doing well. His car was one of our favorites too!
Kenny has a very busy work schedule and I am sure it is hard to go to the track after losing his father. |
