David Rampy ?
I am wondering if David Rampy has retired from racing. NHRA video posted on their site yesterday, entitled "Fast Five" seems to state he has ?

Re: David Rampy ?
Believe he had discussed the prospect before but whatever deal he got with Skillman must have been too good to turn down. He'll definitely go down as one of the greatest and that's not just based on his record. His dedication to his craft has always been inspiring. Remember him driving up to Chattanooga to run his Chevy 2 in the local bracket program and it was COLD that night, believe that was at least 30 years ago. The year he was the reigning Super Gas champ in the Monza he went out early at the Nationals and stopped by on the way home to run a bracket race at our local track in Knoxville. Soon as he got there he was under the car adjusting his four link and getting ready.
Amazing career, hope he comes out occasionally to show everyone how a Champ conducts himself. |
Re: David Rampy ?
Not sure it really means anything, but I did notice that Rampys S/S Camaro had "For Sale" on the back window at the Finals in Pomona.

Re: David Rampy ?
In my humble opinion, the 3 greatest Sportsman racers of all time are David Rampy, Dan Fletcher, and Peter Biondo in no particular order.

Re: David Rampy ?
No disrespect to these three great racers, but don't forget the great Jeff Taylor.

It wont be right not seeing him out there but I can imagine there are a few people that are very happy about it. They have a much better chance of winning with him sitting at home. He is definitely one of the best to strap in a drag car.

Re: David Rampy ?
Great article and video about David on Competition Plus.

Re: David Rampy ?
David is just stopping spending money with NHRA, he's going to concentrate bracket racing where the money is and probably spend more time helping Chase become a future Champion.

Re: David Rampy ?
If you really absorb what he is quoted as saying he talks about----getting pushed to the back of the bus regarding qualifying either number of runs ultimately run, when the runs are made and LACK OF RUNS made during prime time which is a concern for any car that is either sponsored or looking to obtain sponsors. He goes on to say that even though the cost to prepare a car , costs attend a race has gone up significantly that potential winnings(earnings) has DECREASED DRAMATICALLY (50%) in recent years. With this scenario he is not going to commit his own personal funds to continue racing SS or Comp and is going to focus for the short term on assisting his son's racing efforts or to possibly compete in Bracket Racing Races.------ he didn't mince his words he laid it all out on the table and explained the problems that many racers racing at NHRA events have been complaining about and hopefully someone at NHRA realizes why the overall participation rate is/has been going down historically for years and it's time to do something about it UNLESS they are satisfied with the status quo---- FED 387

Don't forget Jody Lang.....

"Satisfied"? Probably not, but the vision for the Company going forward likely has little to do with improving the financial rewards for sportsman racers, improving conditions for people like Rampy, Fletcher, et al, to flourish, and being a good, supportive partner to the companies that make and sell the parts and pieces for everyone. TV viewers, "fans" in the seats, revenue, the "Show" > a couple hundred racers in the pits who show up regardless. |
Re: David Rampy ?
David Rampy is the best racer period. Not only is he a great racer he is a gentelman
that proudly lives his christian life style, It has a pleasure to know David & Barry. Harold Stout picked a winner when he joined up with David. Rember anyone can be a racer. you have to work hard to be a great racer and a gentelman. |
Re: David Rampy ?
David Rampy is one of, if not the greatest Sportsman to ever race in NHRA. He has been a great role model to all racers on how to conduct yourself as a sportsman competitor. David always had a smile and greeted you whether you were a competitor, fellow racer or fan walking by. Growing up we were huge Pro Stock and Comp fans due to my dads influence and I was amazed at David's composure and discipline as a competitor in Comp. I have had the pleasure to know David as both a fan and competitor. He will be greatly missed by many in our sport and I hope an opportunity for him to show up to the track as a driver or crew member once in a while comes up. Some of the names mentioned on this post have been about guys with tons of success in the winners circle and/or pioneers of the sport; however few have had the overall impact that David had on many of us. I wish David and his family all the best in their future endeavors.
