S/SS races in Hagerstown November 2-3
Hello all. I am letting everyone know the Stock/Super Stock races will be held at Mason-Dixon Dragway on November 2-3. I am planning on going, but my Mother and I will be unable to do the races as in the past, due to health reasons. If anybody would like to take over and do the races, let me know. I would be able to give advice if I am there. Please let me know if you are interested. Thank you. I hope to see you all at Hagerstown, for what will probably be the last ever race I go to

Re: S/SS races in Hagerstown November 2-3
Mike, I will be there if the weather behaves. A great way to put a lid on 2019 and hang out with some terrific company!! :D

Re: S/SS races in Hagerstown November 2-3
This will be my twenty-fifth consecutive year going to this race. The weather has been a bit chilly some years (low forties), other years it has been near eighty degrees. And only two rainouts (1997 and 2017). As long as it is sunny and dry, I will be okay with that.

I have a guy who is going to run the races. He started The Tri-State S/SS Association in 1997, and I took it over in 1999.

Re: S/SS races in Hagerstown November 2-3
Just was in contact with Elmer, we will follow the Stock / Super Stock races on Nov. 2 and 3 as it has been done in the past. Gamblers race Saturday and the main event on Sunday. All of us at Mason Dixon love the class racing that we host every November, a fun and great race. We look forward to seeing all of the class racers and Mike Carr and his mom in a couple weeks.

Re: S/SS races in Hagerstown November 2-3
If anyone would like to be involved with the race financially, let me know. Money into the purse(s),best reaction time, etc. I would like if it be something that everyone had a chance at. I will post my annual Long Distance Tow award of fifty dollars ($50),so write down your mileage. Thank you

Re: S/SS races in Hagerstown November 2-3
Robert Pare and Coppermine Applicators Inc will be putting $500.00 into the purse of the Sunday race. Thank you very much Robert !
|
Re: S/SS races in Hagerstown November 2-3
Hell Yeah.
|
Re: S/SS races in Hagerstown November 2-3
The Sunday race will pay $2,000, or more, to win. 45 cars will pay $2,000 to win without any money from the track. We have had as many as 64 make first round a few years ago. It would be great to get our first ever seven round race to end my career as a promoter with.

Re: S/SS races in Hagerstown November 2-3
-Saturday is a test-and-tune day. Cars are not called up in sessions; you simply go up when you want to make a run. We usually have our own dedicated lanes (generally lanes 1 and 2). First round will be called around 2:30 or 3:00. Bye run will be chosen at random.
-Sunday, everyone gets two (2) time trials. Generally the classes being raced are S/SS, Footbrake and Electronics. There is also T-n-T, though many less cars than on Saturday. Bye run for S/SS will be best reaction time during the second time trial. Both races are random pair for round 1. Cars are laddered for round 2 both days, by winning reaction time. In case of a tie, closest to the dial is the tiebreaker. If still a tie, the car doing it first gets the higher spot on the ladder. Race is open to all NHRA and IHRA-legal Stock and Super Stock cars, as well as Nostalgia/SS, S/SS cars must dial the Index or quicker (IHRA Indexes are used; i.e. A/SA 11.30, SS/AA 10.00, etc). N/SS may dial in as they wish (13.00-quicker only). If any questions, feel free to write here, e-mail me buffdaddy_1302@hotmail.com or call (724) 510-5912 This will be the final Class Racing event in the northeast for the season. This will be my twenty-fifth straight year going to this race. It is always a great way to wrap-up the season; to see your friends/fellow racers, race, and win some good money. Yes, it can be chilly at times. Other years, it has been sunny and in the low eighties. --Also, bye runs DO NOT have to be made. No staging the car, taking the Tree, breaking the beams, etc. We made that rule several years ago. One year at H-town, in Super Pro semifinals, the first pair ran and there was smoke on the top end. They shut the bye run car off in the waterbox while they checked the track. A minute later, all was deemed good to go, so they told the bye run car to start back up, and the car would not start. So he lost on the bye-run to the final. I always thought it was dumb to lose on a bye run, so we changed the rule in our Series the following year. If you come up to get paired up for second, third, etc round and have the bye, you may ~return to the pits ~remain in the lanes if in a round-robin situation ~make the run if you so desire We look forward to seeing you November 2-3 in Hagerstown Maryland for the annual Mason-Dixon S/SS Fall Classic ! |

Final batch. I think that I got everybody. Am told that a few more racers are expected to show up for Sunday
I hesitate to post this photo of the red 1965 Chevelle. It was a tough day at the races for the two guys that brought it out today. On the first pass the car sheared off ten wheel studs when it left the line. |
Re: S/SS races in Hagerstown November 2-3
Great photos Doug! You expertly captured the high flying action today due to the mineshaft weather conditions! A lot of great launches and wheelstands!
Congratulations to Ryan, Ed and their family on the win and to Kyle, Brad and their family on the runner up today. Thanks to everyone for their cooperation. A lot of the same on Sunday with 51 degree high, partly sunny and cool day with no chance of rain. We are looking to re-live some magic from one of our first combo races when we had a heads up SS/FM match race between Ed Matsko and Dr. Watson. For the first 2 “mutually agreeing” same class racers who want to run a heads up match race, we will pair you up in a time trial for $100 to the winner! Thanks to the Terry Knott family and crew for the special anniversary and birthday cakes for the Carr family! Come and join us for a slice Sunday. Enjoy the extra hour of sleep and See everyone there! Carl Schodde Jr. |

Re: S/SS races in Hagerstown November 2-3
Two great days of Class Racing. It was a lot of fun spending time with Mike and Wendy Carr again after all these years. Also fun working with Carl Schodde Jr. and I got to meet, and work with, another of the many fine people in drag racing,Ronnie Dicks. Although after swapping stories with Ronnie, we both agreed that we crossed paths somewhere during our many years of drag racing involvement. Many thanks to all the staff at Mason Dixon Dragway for giving us a place to hold a race. I spoke to Elmer after the race and it was decided that this race will be on the schedule again for next year. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves as much as I did.

Re: S/SS races in Hagerstown November 2-3
Almost forgot, congratulations to Jim and Scott Henderson for their career best run of 10.97. Even thought they broke out and lost they sure had big smiles on their faces after finally breaking into the ten second zone. How cool is Class Racing when some guys are that happy even though they lost?
|
Re: S/SS races in Hagerstown November 2-3
Just got home from Mason Dixon and wanted to say what a great weekend it was. It was a real pleasure to meet Mike and and his Mom! Jim and Scott Henderson have been trying to get me to go to this race for years, stupid me didn’t go till this year. A lot of great racers attend this race, everyone I spoke to made you feel like they knew you for years. Mike, Wendy,Tom and Carl did a great job of organizing this event. Hats off to them !!!

Re: S/SS races in Hagerstown November 2-3
It was a good time this weekend. A HUGE thank you to Tom Lang and Carl Schodde for all their help this weekend and to Ronnie Dicks yesterday. I appreciate you and thank you all SO much. The car counts were a little disappointing but that happens. I guess you know a race has grown so much when you are kinda disappointed at “only” 38 cars on Sunday. Also a big thank you to Robert Pare for putting $500 into the Sunday purse. We paid 2000 to win and 1000 for RU with no other outside money. Thank you to the racers that did come out and raced with us this weekend
