John Force answers a question
While watching the races on TV just a few moments ago, a question was sent in from a fan. John Force responded to this enquiry. These are not word for word, but accurate in it's content.
Q. What is there to do at the races when the cars are not on the strip? A. See the manufacturers midway, sample the food, try your hand at the simulators, see engines being maintained in pit areas. Jees, I wonder if he knows about all the cool sportsman cars that are in the pits next to all that asphalt? Ron Ortiz U/SA hey, I'm over here! |

Ron,
I hope you posted this without knowing about the wreck that nearly killed him. |
Re: John Force answers a question
Just saw John Force in a serious accident, I sincerely hope he is OK.
Tim H, your post is not amusing nor is it needed. Ron Ortiz |

Re: John Force answers a question
After watching the video of the crash it "appears" Force had an engine explosion and veered hard right into Bernstein who was hugging/crossing the center line--- Totally unavoidable by Bernstein just happened to be in the wrong place at the right time---But you are right about suggesting a walk around to see what else is out there---But a lot of these guys have no idea what is out there they never came up thru the ranks as sportsman racers so they would not know enough to reccommend something like that---Comp 387

Re: John Force answers a question
The part of the car that Kenny hit didn't have John in it. And where the cage is cut off it has to be driveline that did the damage. I watched it over and over and it looks like the left rear tire was chunking, ( didn't pop ). Maybe causing the body to come apart, then a flash in the ****pit. At that time the chutes came out and the back half of the frame was pull threw the back of the car. The rest of the car went across the lane and Kenny hit it. John the rearend, tires, chutes and part of the cage flipped and eneded up in his own lane.
I hope all goes well and he's back before we know it. |
Re: John Force answers a question
Ron's post has merit. Force knows really nothing about sportsman racing, and that's not a knock at him,it's just the way it is.His 2 younger girls had to explain to him how .90 racing works,he didn't understand it when they first started.

Re: John Force answers a question
Everybody calm down. After knowing Ron for more than 20 years I feel I can say I'm sure he ment nothing vicious with regard to John Force. His point is well taken however. John Force's comments were made before his terrible crash and I have to admit I found myself thinking the same thing Ron questioned. That said, I was lucky enough to talk to John for about 10 minutes at the Gators many years ago and he told me he likes to watch us (S/SS) race but gets very little chance to do so. I find it hard to believe anyone on this forum would not wish John and his whole family the best and a quick recovery. We all know what a trying season it has been for his team.
My thoughts and prayers are with the Force family and team at this very difficult time. |
Re: John Force answers a question
I am going to say this about the postings that took place recently. First, for all of you individuals out there that read the original post, and then presumed I was making an attempt to make fun of this situation, you are an absolute idiot and should be ashamed of yourself. Re read the original post and you will realize that I was centering on the ommision of our categories as what to do when the cars are not on the strip. Nothing derogatory was stated against John Force. As I sat down to resume watching the race after posting the original thread, then I saw the accident. Just so you know, I like John Force more than the other FC drivers, and I was sincerely concerned about him. After a commercial came on I revisited this site to say my concern was there for his safety. The first thing I read is a statement from Tim H and his stupid comment. As you can see by my following post I found it neither amusing or needed.
Alan Roehrich, FED387, Chris DeGideo, and Jim Wahl, you are correct. As for you Mr. North, your timing is off. My second post occured at 9:14 after seeing the accident and then waiting to see if he was OK on TV, yours followed at 11:03 My sincere concern and prayers go out to the Force family. Ron Ortiz |

I didn't think Ron knew about Force being injured, that's why I phrased my post that way. While I disagree with Ron, on many things, I did not think him capable of being the type that would make that post if he had known. |
Re: John Force answers a question
It should be remembered that Force did come up the hard way, but not through the sportsman ranks as some did. He was a match racer who struggled for decades. I seriously doubt Force had any intentions of slighting the sportsman racers. Force likes and respects most everyone, and counts several sportsman racers among his friends. The comment being spoken of is nothing more than a sound bite.

"....when the cars are not on the track..."
This could mean early in the morning, after race day schedule, even a rain delay, or at Topeka one year when the water was bubbling up through the surface...then the reply would also be mine Lighten up people |
Re: John Force answers a question
Wow, the quote of ron kicking puppies too was the funniest thing I read in weeks..thanks..you almost made me fall out of my chair while taking a 8 hour pass on this huge liner..lol..

Re: John Force answers a question
If you re-listen the the "what there is to do at the races" question and answer segment again - It was not a true question/answer of John's opinion - it was a huge Ford plug. Didn't you catch after he described all the things you can do at the Ford Booth then our buddy Paul Page closed the segment stating that Ford wants to hear your questions.
I'm sure John knows about the sportsman, maybe it's Ford that doesn't care about them. |
Re: John Force answers a question
I feel horrible for John Force, but I too noticed the comments made. My husband and I looked at each other and said the same thing, no mention of all the cool cars in the sportsman pits. He could have even mentioned all the FORD brand cars that can be found there. So, Ron, I agree, I totally understood your post and I don't think you meant any disrespect to John. I don't think anyone here does, as that segment was OBVIOUSLY pre recorded prior to any knowledge of his accident. They may have put it in the telecast after we were all aware of his accident, but the point remains that there was no mention of the folks that help pay the bills.
Hoping and Praying for a Speedy and hopefully not so painful recovery for John. Kandra Villani 5329 STK/SS |
Re: John Force answers a question
Kandra,
On Sundays I visit the NHRA site for results of the sportsman categories. As the day continues, I sheild my eyes as not to see the pro results, because I watch the show that night at around 7 PM and do not want to already know the results. Makes it more fun to watch. What I posted is when I saw it, both times. Ron Ortiz |
Re: John Force answers a question
Hey guys - if you want to be mad at one of the pros - try Bob Vandergriff. The Pros had a meeting with NHRA a few months ago and someone asked a question concerning the future of sportsman at National Events - Vandergriff was quoted as saying that if it were up to him - sportsman would not be allowed on the property. I now ship with FED-EX.

Re: John Force answers a question
Ron: That's our normal as well, MOST weekends I don't get online at all. Lane had called to let us know to watch the coverage because he'd heard about Force's Crash. Either way, I still get upset when the Pro's forget who helps pay the bills, not just their sponsors.
Larry: I'd never heard about Vandergriff's comments, and here I was cheering him on in the final last night, now I feel stupid! Not that I don't have that feeling more often than not! LOL!!! :-( Kandra |
Re: John Force answers a question
Bob VanerGriff, You are a loser! looooooooser. loser loser loser! UPS will suffer the penalty of having a Spokesman like yourself. Thanks bobby. You have the sportsmen racers against you with that qoute..ps..I don't watch you either..jason

Re: John Force answers a question
I'm, sorry Force got hurt! And you can bet your bottom dollar that Ron did not know about it when he began this thread. Nor is there any sense in trying to link Ron's post to Forces bad luck. Just some guys trying to make a mess of things.
As the story goes - about ten years ago. A collection "bucket" for an injured Sportsman racer was placed near John Force's pit at Pomona. Force noticed the "bucket" and asked his staff what it was doing there - they told him the story. His response... Get rid of the collection bucket and let the Sportsman racers take care of themselves. |
Re: John Force answers a question
Glad to help you on your trip Jason.
I'm wondering about an 8 hour pass on a "huge liner" ? You traveling on an....Air-liner ? Or Ocean-liner ? Can't go very far in 8 hours on an Oceanliner, but airliners don't have chairs to fall out of. Only "seats" It's killin me, where are ya and what are you doing ? http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/a...andtheflag.jpg |

OK Ron Ortiz U/SA your right, it is sunny |
Re: John Force answers a question
and I wonder if Vandergriff would be able to do the PRO thing if it weren't for the sportsman racers who bought Hedman Husler products from his family's business for all those years. He and brother Chris have been able to afford all the racing they have done due to a prosperous business supported by sportsman racers. JMT>

I don't know about "As the story goes" but I have to come to John Force's defense in this area. I know all of you have heard about the Kaylee Greer accident in the junior dragster back the end of March. John and Ashley both sent a substanial donation to her and many other gifts. They also personally called the hospital and spoke with her parents 'if' she had been able to speak at the time I am sure they would have spoken to her. There has also been follow up calls to check on her progress. Chad, her father attended the US Nationals as a spectator and John welcomed him into his pits, trailer, motorhome and introduced him to many of the pro racers. Chad was very impressed by the down to earth attitude with the Force family. I know they have helped the Greer family out and both John and Ashley want to some day personally meet Kaylee. She still loves to watch drag racing and continually watches John and Ashley compete. She was very upset over the accident John was involved in. I am not saying that "As the story goes" did not happen, but I have seen the proof of what he has done for one sportsman racer and it was well beyond just a donation. The man has a heart along with the rest of the Force family. Our thoughts and Prayers are with the Force family. God's Speed for a complete recovery. Donna Morris ps Mr. Noland nothing was meant against you as I am sure this was a story you were told by someone. I just had to tell what I know John Force has done to help out a racer and her family in need. |

SSlady, thanks for your post. How did you find out about the Force family interest in the injured young lady?
Thumprint, two wrongs don't make it right? Do you think Ron did something wrong? |
Re: John Force answers a question
No Bruce, It wasnt what Ron said it was what was said about Sportsman racers, so instead of being a retard and kicking guy when he's down we'll let that 1 slide.

Re: John Force answers a question
If there is anymore to that bit on Vandergriff, I would really like to know that too.
I know the Sr. didnt like the trucks, and damn sure doesnt care for the ProMods. I have never heard Jr. say anything about sportsman racers though. |
Re: John Force answers a question
Thumprint,
You failed to answer my question. Where are the two wrongs? Using the word retard should apply only to timing on a racing site. Many of us take offense to you calling any one a retard. |
Re: John Force answers a question
Mr. Noland,
I am a friend of the Greer family and was told the story about the phone call and the donation through Kaylee's parents one day when I visited the hospital. Many of my family members were involved in the benefit for Kaylee. What I am saying is this was not told to me by just anyone, so it is not a rumor. John and Ashley both have continued to ask about Kaylee. On the US National program Ashley even spoke of Kaylee (I missed that part but received a phone call right after telling me about how Ashley had mentioned Kaylee's name on National TV). As I said before I don't know about the other 'story' but I do know John and Ashley have stepped up in a way for Kaylee that is well beyond just a donation. Many other Pro racers have sent different items to her. I don't think the start of this post was 'against' John Force just a statement of how sportsman racers do not receive any recognition. I do feel the Pro racers job is to plug for their sponsors and I am sure that was the main thing that entered John's mind when asked the question. I do hate that sportsman racers seem to be in the background but everything today revolves around money and I hate to say it but as far as the National events "most" of the spectators do come to see the big boys. That is just reality. I wish there was a way for the sportsman classes to receive more attention and publicity. We use the same products and run the stickers to support the same sponsors or vendors that the Pros use and advertise. If all the sportsman racers were gone and did not purchase their products where would that put the (sponsors/vendors) business?? Again, the Pros get the air time and that is what the vendors want. I assume the money isn't there to produce and air sportsman races. If you want to read about Kaylee's recovery go to www.caringbridge.org type in kayleegreer (no spaces) in the visit a website and you can read everything her parents have posted about her accident and recovery. God's Speed to John Force for a full recovery and prayers for him and all his family. Donna Morris :) |
Re: John Force answers a question
Ms./Mrs. Morris,
Thank you for your response, even though you incorrectly "read into" my question? I will visit the site that you offered. Mr. Noland |
Re: John Force answers a question
Mrs. Morris,
That is one of the nicest, most logical, and accurate responses I have ever read. Thank you, Ron Ortiz U/SA ......................... |
Re: John Force answers a question
Mr. Ortiz,
Your welcome. The response I made is only my opinion and we know the ol saying about opinions. Mr. Noland, I am sorry I misunderstood your question and no disrespect was intended. I thought I answered your question. That is the only thing I hate about not speaking in person when you type something it can be interpreted differently. That has been proven on different posts time and time again. If you do go to Kaylee's site make sure and go into her journal. Chad and Cindy have posted maybe not daily but quite frequently. Donna Morris :) |
