Re: Jim hale
Met them at the Dutch several years ago when he had a SS/AH Cuda. Had a lot of fun talking about the old days. Great PEOPLE!!!!!!!!

Didn't Jim run a 1970 383 wagon awhile back?

Welcome to the new "Stock"
Something like this, maybe? http://www.cfrperformance.com/CHRYSL...cfr-7117-z.htm What I want to know if they were able to shake them down for the contingency plan. |

Re: Jim hale
You've got to be all over the map on this stuff too. You can't you use a Chevy II Moroso oil pan on any other models but you can use a race 426 reproduction pan on a 383 station wagon. Make sense to anyone? By the way congrats to Jim. I was waiting for the youngster with the big Pontiac to get it together and give you a run but it didn't happen this time.

Re: Jim hale
Look in Page 25 of the NHRA Accepted Products and you will find a multitude of aftermarket oil pans that have been approved for Stock Eliminator class for many other engine makes.

Re: Jim hale
For the record here, this dude is not knocking Mr. Hale at all. Smart racers play the best cards they are holding.
My issue is this . I'm a fabricator by trade. How about if I took a stock 283 pan and added 3" to the bottom of it and showed up at Indy with it. Think it would fly? Of course not. ..and neither should a hemi pan be allowed on a basic 383. The reason why it is, is in my first post in this thread. Carry on... |
Re: Jim hale
Jim Hale is as good at this as anyone on the planet.

Re: Jim hale
Did the oil pan get Jim Hale the class win? No. Is the pan legal? Yes. Does it help the bearings to live longer? I would say yes. Now, what did get Jim the class win is his many years of refining engines, transmissions, and cars to make the most power and use it efficiently.
Now for the trans brake deal. It is my understanding that someone claimed to have seen him push a button to back up so tech had him take his console apart so they could look for a trans brake wire. They found nothing. Then they had him jack his car up so they could look underneath for a wire. They found nothing. Then they wanted him to pull the pan. This was in between rounds in Eliminations so either way he is not going to be able to make the next round of Eliminations, so he loaded up and left. At the next race which was the Divisional at Tulsa his son was with him and they pulled the pan and let Div 4 tech inspect it. Nothing was found. The way I see it there was never any proof that he had a trans brake in it and the car doesn’t seem to have slowed down any. If anything it may have gotten a little faster. Jim is a stand up guy and yes, he is very good at what he does. |

Not sure what doing it at the next race would prove though? |

"Welcome to the new "Stock" Don't forget you said that you. I knew I got the inspiration for my pan somewhere-Derby. |

Let me tell you a Jim Hale story....... A few years back I was building a G/SA car, earlier in the year Jim set the G/SA record, so I was very interested in his car and the incremental times it had run on the record pass. Jim rolls into the track and I walk over to talk to him, he's never met me, we start talking and he invites me into his trailer, jacks the car up and tells me to look it over, gets out his time slips and shows me his record runs, tells HP numbers from his DTS dyno. I will never forget the time Jim spent with me-truly an excellent human being-the BEST! And for the record he built the Mall in my town.......... |
