Getting ready to watch the real INDY
The city I was born in - the Indianapolis 500
Ron I am positive as I post this - the narrowly focused drag racers will disagree but 250,000 people one day and a hundred year history seems more likely to be called INDY by most. However it is America (part of what we celebrate on Memorial Day) we are all entitled to our opinion. Good day gentleman |
Re: Getting ready to watch the real INDY
For drag racers the real Indy is run on Labor Day!

Re: Getting ready to watch the real INDY
Spent the morning watching the Monaco Grand Prix and am watching the 500 right now.
For 14 years, I was never able to watch Indy because I was covering the D1 event at Maple Grove for DRC. As much as I miss doing that, the benefit is a long weekend home and watching both races. Jim |

Re: Getting ready to watch the real INDY
Seems like an exercise in wasting fuel. The start and finish line are in the same location.................

Re: Getting ready to watch the real INDY
Growing up in Indy, we didn't call the 500 "Indy" - it's just "The Race". The beauty is that we have both the Indy 500 and the US Nationals, "The Nationals" to locals! Then there's the Brickyard 400, which is not the biggest NASCAR race, but certainly a prestigious one. We also have the INDY 500 of Grand National Cross Country Racing, the GNCC Ironman, which not many locals even know about, but it is a GREAT time!
I have been able to attend all of the above multiple times!! There is more than 1 reason that Indy is the Racing Capitol of the World! |
Re: Getting ready to watch the real INDY
Always thought the museum at the Indy speedway was very cool. And then I went to Wally’s Museum in Pomona....no contest.

Re: Getting ready to watch the real INDY
I've been to the 500 twice, in 2014 and 2016, and it is an incredible event! The first time, I was walking through the infield on Carb Day when the first cars started testing and my hay fever started acting up or something as my eyes started watering.
I was racing this weekend, but watched the 500 when I got home Sunday night and watched Monaco in the morning. Professional drag racing does nothing for me, nor does the dragstrip at Indy. I can appreciate what it means for Stock and Super Stock guys to qualify and/or win class there. |
