INDY on ESPN

I watched the ESPN coverage on monday of the finals of the US Nationals. I enjoyed the racing but there was way to much interviewing and sidebar stories to keep my interest. There was plenty of time for coverage of the sportsman catagories. I tune in to see racing not a bunch of boring interviews with the same old people they always talk to. I sure would have liked to watch the Hemi shoot out and the sportsman finals. Now that was some great racing action. I believe most drag racing fans would probably agree with me.

While watching the broadcast with my wife, I mentioned to her that with all the fill time wouldn't you think that at the very least NHRa would show the sportsman finals. Anyway there is a lot of people on the same page regarding the issue of lack of coverage. A couple of years ago i called National Trails to find out the sportsman qualifying times and the woman mentioned that she couldn't believe that i didn't care aboutthe PROS and only wanted the sportsman times. Glad to see that i'm not the only weird guy on the planet.

i few years back they used to show the sportman finals. i never missed a viewing when they did that and always looked forward to the 2 minutes they gave to the slow guys. i sure do miss my favorite 2 minutes of tv, instead its the force family drama hour..

I got so bored with the interviews that I started flipping over to NFL preseason replays and then checked back periodically to see if someone was going to race. I missed a few runs but it was only Pro's so who really cares.

I only watch it because it is drag racing not because I gove a hoot about the private lives of any of the racers.

Nascar Coverage

I'm not much of a Nascar fan but I got stuck watching the race from Calif.Speedway on Sunday night because the rest of my reletives at a Labor Day get togather all are fans. Don't shoot the messenger but i'll have to admit the Nascar race was far more entertaining then I would have ever imagined & compaired to the poor Espn coverage of Indy on Monday (again for about the 10th year in a row) I won't watch anymore Drag racing on Tv ever again because it's just plain boring & besides how many times do we have to talk about all of John Force's new sponsors & the 2-new cars & swimming pool he just bought for Ashley at her new house?? At least when you watch the Nascar roundy-rounders you see some actual racing going on!!! lol

If we could get this topic to be "hot" enough on this forum and possibly on other forums, there could be a chance that we might be able to raise some eyebrows and maybe get the right person's attention.

I thoroughly enjoy watching the sportsmen racing on ESPN. To me, that type of racing is way more interesting and entertaining than watching a "first to the finish line."

Really, the reactions from the crowds are far greater and louder when the two people racing get into a "pedal fest" than when the two both get down smoothly (unless they break a record or high speed of some sort).

I would encourage everybody on this post to at least say something concerning this topic so that we may be able to get somebody's attention. It may not do a thing, but you never know!

God Bless!

Heard DAT!!!! You have to look real close to find the LODRS coverage to get your 15 seconds of real Sportsman coverage now......

If it ain't on fire, it doesn't get on TeeVee, unless it's something to do with Force.

Paul Page, puhhhhhleeeeze...............the guy would never have been on TeeVee to begin with if he hadn't gone down in the ABC affiliate traffic copter about 20 years ago.

His payoff was a long term contract, then for some reason, if you were from Indianapolis, you were automatically a "motorsports expert commentator", ala Robin Miller, a drunken, washed up local news columnist. At least Miller does weasel his way into enough pit spots and garages to get some gossip, but that is all.

Love it or hate it, Pinks (both versions) get more viewer's than ANY NHRA pro-series TV coverage. What does that tell you?
You could take something like the SS/AH shoot-out and even the Class runoffs and garner the same type of energy for TV as shown on Pinks. It just takes a knowledeable host to build up the energy and there will be viewers! Really, if you can take some of the ho-dunks on Pinks and make them look like hero's, imagine what they could do with NHRA Sportsman racing!

Re: INDY on ESPN

The Indy coverage was pathetic. Anyone that watches any NHRA coverage should know all about John Force from head to toe since that is all they talk about. No offense to JF. Punks, I mean Pinks is a pathetic soap opera about drag racing. They don't even use the tree. People that don't know drag racing that watch this would be confused, what is that thing in the middle of the track. When will someone wake up and show some real sportsman drag racing, what will it take? We got scrabble, texas hold-up and spelling bees on ESPN2, but no real sportsman drag racing. The best they can do is Punks. No wonder I don't watch any TV, thank God it is football season ....

IHRA covers their national event sportsman final rounds. SPEED Channel.

It's been said before but as long as theres shoe polish on the windows the fans won't take us serious. They don't like it or understand it. With some divisions eliminateing heads up races what can the racers do to increase the fan base. Its all about getting fans in the stands. I've emailed NHRA, Lucas Oil and ESPN in the last year complaining about the lack of sportsman tv. Each and everyone of them plamed it on the other group. Nobody would want to take credit for that crap. Pinks Allout is the best we got. The regular pinks sucks.
