Live from Indy!!!
We are here!! Arrived about 5:00 this afternoon and we are #115 in line. We are in the staging lanes. Supposed to start parking at 12 noon tomorrow. Talk about a difference in weather. Opened up the door to the motorhome when we arrived and it was pleasant. No air conditioning running. Debbie Bridges said she was going to go get her coat on. It is really going to be nice to be able to sleep with the windows open instead of the air running all night like it did for 3 days continuously in Bowling Green. After we left, we heard Jeremy Duncan wrecked Irvin Johns new stocker at Bowling Green, but he's ok. Have seen lots of people here already. Mike & Paula Cotten are a couple of trailers back after their trip from Topeka with a stop on the way at the vet's for Macy. She is better now tho. Others seen: Ben Wenzel, Bert Morgan, Larry Hodge, Ken Shawver, the Nowikis, Keith Lynch, Jim Marshall, Louis Conkey, Jennifer McCormack, the Buckner's (Happy Birthday David and Gwen), the Lux's, Gary Russell, Fred Connell, Jimmy Bridges, Painter Stevenson, Al Corda, and AL PROVOAST. It was really good to see him.
Rumor has it that George Widuch sold his car today at Bowling Green and the car will be here with that new driver. Let you know when I find out for sure. Everyone is having a great time here tonight. A pizza place brought around samples, then sold a whole lot of pizzas since they deliver. The weather is absolutely wonderful and supposed to be all week. They really have everything organized coming in. Well more tomorrow. Time for another wine slushee. Patsy |
Re: Live from Indy!!!
Thanks for the updates they are great. There is no where in the world I would rather be than Indy during Labour day weekend. Regretably I'll be heading off to work tomorrow morning @ 7.30 am for the next 6 days in a row. My son and I made the trip to "Raining" Penns for the Toyo tires event so we are grounded for a while... LOL. Best of luck to all the wonderful stock and superstock racers heading to the BIG GO, have a safe race.

Re: Live from Indy!!!

Re: Live from Indy!!!
Beautiful morning in Indianapolis, IN. About 60 degrees now, supposed to be 87 later today. They are parking pro motorcylcle over in the grass where all the sportsmen's dogs were going to the bathroom since we have been here! Didn't see anyone using pooper scoopers either! Well the rumor is true. Larry talked to George last night and after he got beat 5th round, he pulled his #1 qualifier into Rusty Fox's trailer. I think Rusty is going to be running it here. George and Jerry Bennett are building a 62, 383 car for next year. It will be running in our class, so we better get the Cuda finished this winter. There's a real sense of excitement in the air here, as always. They should start pulling us in in a couple of hours. Haven't been out looking around yet today. I will post more later.
Another note--Steve Wann hurt his engine at Topeka. Looks like the E/SA cars are dropping like flies! Patsy |
Re: Live from Indy!!!
It is 1:00 and the outside lane has started to move. Someone went to the back field and said there is a steady line of rigs coming in. The Buckners are 2 rigs in front of us and this is their first Indy. Someone told them they could have their choice of parking spots. I guess they were just trying to have fun with the "Newbies".
More later. Patsy |
Re: Live from Indy!!!
What is the deal on Crew passes - Get them at the gate? Trying to figure out the arrangements for the wife coming down later in the week.
Man is it hard to focus on work when the rig is loaded ready to go in the parking lot - not to mention being my first time racing at Indy. |
Re: Live from Indy!!!
Patsy, You said in an early post that Jim Marshall was there. Didnt see him entered. Is someone else driving his car?See you Wend.
|
Re: Live from Indy!!!
Just talked to Jim Marshall. Boy was he mad. Told his wife he was going out of town on business. Then she finds out on the internet that he's here. LOL I don't know if it is for public knowledge, but I guess now everyone knows that Keith Lynch is driving his car. He had surgery on his elbows and can't drive. We finally got parked about 3:30. Lots of people still down in the field where they are bringing them in across the top of the track. They said they were going to stop parking at 5:00, but it is 5:30 and they are still parking at the moment. We have a pretty good spot inside the 1st fence on the next to outside row. So come on by for a drink when you get here. Nice people across from us that we met for the 1st time today--Randy and Dawn Mans. There are lots of s/ss cars in this little area.
For the question about the crew passes: usually after you get the car teched--you go get your credentials and buy your crew pass then. If she needs to get the restricted pass, she can go up anytime with her drivers license and sign the sheet to get the restricted sticker. Saw John Shaul across the track a while ago. Saw Hawk's trailer, but haven't seen him yet. Brian Livengood got off to a great start this morning. Left his motorhome and trailer here yesterday, then drove his Suburban in this morning and it got towed. Saw him in it a while ago, so I guess he found where they towed it to. Dick Lux hasn't had a very good time so far. Went to Bowling Green 1st and the lift wouldn't work on his trailer, so he didn't get to race. I think they got it working this afternoon tho. See ya Wed, Lyn. Is Bonnie coming with you? Patsy |
Re: Live from Indy!!!
Patsy, you guys keep an Eye on Mr Big Stuff, he is up there without Parental Supervision!!! lol:D

Re: Live from Indy!!!

Re: Live from Indy!!!
Hey Patsy, could you post when the McClanahans get there?
I just want to know they made it safely all the way from California. Thanks, Floyd |
Re: Live from Indy!!!
Hi Patsy-
We're really enjoying your "blog"...please keep it coming!! Makes us feel like we're parked right next to you! Thanks! :) |
Re: Live from Indy!!!
The boss and her husband:D will be there tonight, I won't make it until Wednesday morning. Thanks to the Hills for keeping us posted.
|
Re: Live from Indy!!!
Woodro, haven't seen Mr. Big Stuff yet. Went down by his trailer, but he wasn't home. I think Painter's keeping an eye on him.
Witchy Woman, why aren't you and Greg here?? Haven't seen the McClanahans yet, but they stopped parking about 7. They may still be out in the field. Thanks, I'm enjoying just riding around and having a great time. If you have never been to Indy, you need to come at least 1 time. The whole atmosphere is unlike anything else. We've got a great little group around us here. Bobby Brannon, the Cottens, Roz & Rick Gresens, the Lux's, the Bridges's. Rick & Phyllis Winchester and the Sempscrotts barely got parked tonite before they stopped bringing rigs in. Art Wilkinson and his gang are out in the back 40 on the edge of the road. Went and looked at the schedule this evening for Stock. Looks about the same as usual. 2 runs on Wed, 1 on Thurs, then class, teardown Friday, 1st and 2nd round early Sat, 3 & 4 late Sunday, then finish up Monday. Supposed to be 91 tomorrow, then cool off. More later. Patsy |
Re: Live from Indy!!!
Thanks Patsy, I appreciate the response.
Sounds like a great time, maybe someday I can come. Good luck. Floyd |
Re: Live from Indy!!!

Re: Live from Indy!!!
Another beautiful in Indy! Supposed to be 92, hot and humid today and tomorrow, with a chance of thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon.
Lots of cars already in line for tech. We slept in, so Larry just now got out to wash the "Private Lee" off and then go get in line. Hey Capt. Jack, I thought I saw your car yesterday kinda behind where we are parked, but it was still in the trailer and I didn't know the people there, so didn't know it was you. So we will see you later. More later. Patsy |
Re: Live from Indy!!!
Patsy,
I broke the engine in the Mirada at Englishtown. Don Little stayed home from Indy just so he could put my engine back together (well, maybe not exactly!) We've been racing the Super Bee, but its just not fast enough to make the field at there. Good luck and have fun. Greg & Witchy |
Re: Live from Indy!!!
So now for our experience in the tech line this morning and afternoon. Some people were in and out in 25 minutes. But we got in the line that took 3 hours and 45 minutes. The good thing about that we got to see a lot of people we had not seen in a while. Just came back and had a good cold lunch, now we will go get in line to get our credentials. Lots of rumors running around about re-combining the fuel cars and stick cars all together. If they do that all runs should count including all class runs and eliminations.
More later. "We will drink no wine before its time." And it is 5 o'clock somewhere. Patsy |
Re: Live from Indy!!!
Floyd, I saw the private Ryan in tech. Evidently he arrived here ok.
Larry |
Re: Live from Indy!!!
I too have heard the rumor about adding the FI cars back into the regular classes. Possible 1 pound weight breaks also?
Factored runs count too? Thanks for the reports Patsy and Larry! |

Re: Live from Indy!!!
Witchy Woman, you will be glad to know that Stevie Wann bought another engine (that was originally Jerry Davis's, but was at Parson & Myers shop in OH). Went by there just before dark and he had the engine in and was out driving around. Davis's engines are fast, so it is probably a good one. Keith Lynch finally got Marshall's like he wanted it. Another E/SA has shown up. Danny Black driving Jamie Fenner's car. Dick Lux finally got his car out of his trailer. Rumors going around about another protest in A/FIA depending who is the fastest during qualifying tomorrow.
More about the long wait in the tech line. We were not the only ones in line for 3 3/4 hours. I think it was a new tech guy and he was being really thorough, but most of these cars had just been to either Bowling Green, Topeka, or Cecil Co. last weekend and passed there. Like Rick Winchester said out in line "My weight sticker is only 3 days old". It was so hot some people were getting sick from the heat. Roz Gresens for one. Then you had to get back in line in Registration to get your credentials. Judy McCormack got sick over there. One good thing tho. They had a separate line for Stock--since we run 1st in the morning. We just went by the NHRA trailer and they were still open just before 9:00. Got some new t-shirts this afternoon from Art's Used Parts where "If we don't have it, you don't need it". (By the way, we are in the same business as Art.) I want to thank our son Chris for staying home and running the business for us while we are gone. Sure makes being away a lot easier. Well went driving thru the back 40 and it sure is filling up. Somebody already has the shade tree where Jerry Bennett usually parks. We were back there for the last 3 years and it is so far away that you can't even get the track radio station to come in. Well more tomorrow. We run at 9:00, but with 165 cars it will take quite a while, so I will post after we get back. Patsy |
Re: Live from Indy!!!
Good luck, Patsy.
And don't forget to tell Brain and Ryan I said hello. |

Re: Live from Indy!!!
Floyd, we found Ryan and said "Hi"
Mark, I use a cingular wireless card with my laptop. I've been getting really good reception here. Sometimes there will be other wireless available, but not here. Joe, try to get to Indy sometime. It is a whole different atmosphere. Greg, so you bought Bert's Olds. Surely Jim will go easy on it this week! Well we go down the track in about 1 1/2 hours. Everyone around us is still in bed, but Larry is up and at 'em. Today the weather is calling for 94, hot and humid. Hopefully nobody gets sick like they did yesterday. We have had the hot weather for over a month in Kentucky--more than 95 everyday, so it hasn't been that bad for us. ( of course, I come back and sit in the air conditioning!) More later after we run. Can anyone tell me how to get pictures onto here? I have my digital camera, but don't know just how to manage it? Patsy |
Re: Live from Indy!!!
Hello Patsy,
You can not upload pictures to Class Racer. Pictures or attachments would take up to much server space and resources, therefore they are not an available option. Pictures can easily be viewed if they are uploaded to your personal website such as a my space or another type of website. All you need to do is add the web address to your post or use an image tag if you wish to have the pictures viewed in your post. The [img] tag allows you to embed images within your posts. [img] web address of picture in between these tags [/img] |

Thanks Patty.
Be glad you're not here in So Cal. 95 degrees would be a pleasant change. It's suppose to be 106-108 here today and thru the weekend. It's going to be hotter than hell at the nascar race. I'm going to watch it on tv. And listen to the live audiocast from the Big Go. |

Re: Live from Indy!!!
Well, we were #1 Qualifier for a little while! 1.11 under. I think Blossom is #1 at-1.27, then Bert Morgan at -1.26. 153 cars went down 1st round. 30 something are -1.00. DRC should have the results up soon. Some heavy hitters not in yet: Biondo only -.67 if they had him in the correct class. I know some cars were not in the right class, so we will wait til the official results come out. We went out with the intention of making sure we made the show since the weather was better this morning than it will be later today. Something happened to Mitch Truman on the line, so he did not get a good run. Also Lyn Smith. Hawk went 1.03 under @ only 115 mph. Probably 300 pounds heavy! Corda only went -.61 at 105 mph. Walton was over the index.
More later. Patsy |
Re: Live from Indy!!!
Dennis, sorry you couldn't make it. We are in a drought at home, too. Dennis Ridgeway did not get a good run. Travis went 11.81
|
Re: Live from Indy!!!
Larry and Patsy--Its really great to have you guys "Live from Indy" everyday. Those of us that couldn't make the trip enjoy your reports on the Sportsman side of things----------we can't thank you enough for taking the time.Keep up the great work................
PS--As an FIA Stock racer even your protest rumors are interesting !!!!!!!! |
Re: Live from Indy!!!
There is a sheet posted here now, so DRC should be getting it up soon. We are #8. Right now #128 is -.72 under. 40 cars are 1 second under.
Phyllis Winchester just brought us a CARE package of Cincinnati Skyline chili and spaghetti. Boy is it good. More later. Patsy All those cool superstock cars are running now. Lots of hemis!!! |
Re: Live from Indy!!!
