SS engines need identified clearly (on weight sticker)
Did you ever walk up to a SS car and wonder what engine a racer is using in his SS/GT car?
Look his weight sticker.... Can you tell what engine combo they are running? (especially in a GT car?).... most of the time, the answer is NO. Right now, all you know is the Cubic Inches, The Factory HP, and the NHRA hp. These stickers should reflect a combo and should have an 8 or 10 digit number assigned to every combo in the classification guide. For example.... mine should read 78p318155t.... 78 = 1978 p = plymouth 318 = factory cubic inches 155 = factory hp t= thermoquad Am I missing something... I think this would make it very easy to identify different combos being used, and also very easy to the people tracking them too! |

Along this same line with the new tech system at Nationals. Will we even have a weight sticker??

I usually just ask the guy with the car which engine he has.

155 HP ? Your 1/4 Mile ET is 16.02
Your 1/4 Mile MPH is 91.99 :D |
Re: SS engines need identified clearly (on weight sticker)
I never worried too much about what combo somebody else is running. Always trusted the tech guys to get it right. I would hate to be the guy they caught cheating. Would not feel like I outran anybody if I stooped to that.

Re: SS engines need identified clearly (on weight sticker)
Ed, I think you are misinterpreting Tom's point.
Read the first line again. Tommy, I'm one of those guys! But , you really don't think anyone out there gives a crap about this, do you? Lots of time, the Div. tracks use the local bracket tech guys. This would be really pushing it for them. Probably have to do it ourselves.. Get a sponsor for some little decals, and fill in the blanks. |
Re: SS engines need identified clearly (on weight sticker)
Mark, guess I need to get out more. I mostly run Div 4 & Div 5, no bracket tech guys there. Same gentlemen that often tech us at national events. Sharp guys. May not be that way in other divisions. Sorry if I offended anybody.

Just a short hop , to the Cottens ! |
Re: SS engines need identified clearly (on weight sticker)
How about starting with racers clearly indicating which class they are running rather than displaying half the alphabet on their windows.

Re: SS engines need identified clearly (on weight sticker)
Tom ,this is a question i always wanted to know about the G.T class, your formula is perfect,,answer me this 66 CHEVY II GT/I what combo is that

Re: SS engines need identified clearly (on weight sticker)
I really don't see any need for this. NHRA is all but eliminating tech at the national events and cutting back on qualified help at the races. Every enhancement is a step backward.

Where do we get one anymore? Who's ever gonna check the accuracy? "What do you mean I can't write down my weight as 200lbs. lighter" There's nobody there that know's anymore so why not. What a joke !!! |
Re: SS engines need identified clearly (on weight sticker)
With all the new horsepowers from the latest AHFS, who is going to figure the correct weight for those cars in Stock and S/S with no tech? Maybe you will get a weight sticker to fill out with your tech card and the ladies in the registration trailer can verify that your weight sticker is correct.
