What ever Jim Hale happens to be running at the time. 1964 Plymouth Sport Fury 3, or now a 1966 Plymouth Belvedere Wagon. Fast and looks good! Just sayin

Re: the best 1960 stock elim. car
Must be a 1967-1969 Chevrolet Camaro big or small block. I guess that's why there are so many being raced. By best, I assume you also mean cost to build and availability of parts.

Re: the best 1960 stock elim. car
I raced Fords in the mid 60's but I have to admit the 55 - 57 Chevys dominated a lot of classes. They were plentiful, cheap to build, and fairly easy to maintain. I finally gave in and built a 57 Chevy 4dr wagon with a 265 2bl and sometimes won my class locally. I gave $15 for the body and rebuilt a 265 someone gave me. Probably did not have $400 in the whole car including headers and gears. My tow car was a 57 Sedan Delivery.

Today that motor is factored at 287 hp in stock and 300 hp in ss. The 327/275 is actually factored higher than that. Go figure. |

Ahhh, for the good old days when you could build a competitive car from parts that you brought home from the local junkyard. In answer to the question, I'd have to say 57 Chevy. Lots of body styles and lots of engine combos. |
Re: the best 1960 stock elim. car
I'd love to comment but I'm not sure to what.
Is this thread about 1960 cars? ..about cars raced in the 60's? ..about 60-69 year cars? ..favorite from one of the above? ..most successful from above? Vic? Somebody? |
Re: the best 1960 stock elim. car
I can't tell you the best but I can tell you what I liked.
From the cars raced in the 1960's, I liked the junior stockers with the Monster Mash car at the top of the heap. From the 60's models it would be Grumpy's Chevy II. Pete |

Re: the best 1960 stock elim. car
My best 1960 car was a 1960 Ford Falcon that I bought for $10 in1968. I won more races with that car than anything since. It even won Little Stock Eliminator at the 1968 AHRA World Points Finals.

Marv Ripes 57 Chevy 210, 283 / 250 FI with a glide. I wrote a paper about it in college. And painted on the hood, right next to the rabbit "Tricks are for kids". The car had the only two piece front bumper I ever saw.

Re: the best 1960 stock elim. car
210 body style. Was it really injected? Thought it was 220 HP carb model. I ran Barkley in that car at Indy 1971 for class.

Re: the best 1960 stock elim. car
Any of the 1969 350-255hp Chevies - Bortman, Warren, etc. That engine is still being raced a lot today. So many good racers have used that engine in all body styles and models to create a huge legacy. It would easily rank as one of the top ten developed Stock and Super Stock engines in history.

It has a 383 in it. I'm not sure about the horsepower rating. At Noble he ran it in K/SA at somewhere around 3800lbs. Pictures don't do it justice. Jim knows how to build a beautiful and fast car.
