race parts aroma therapy

I like the smell of a new cam when still in the box. The protection/shipping oil aroma gives me a smile and calming effect.

Like walking into a hardware store or tire store, O the simple pleasures.

Maybe. But filing my taxes in those nice sized Summit boxes is still filing my taxes...

Before Dad sold his shop this spring, I used to go out every Friday morning around 6:30 to pay bills, do the bookkeeping. The shop smells were just as comforting to me as an apple pie baking in the kitchen. Grease, gas fumes, solvents....ahhhh!

As we used to say as a parody on Robert Duvall's line from "Apocalypse Now", "I love the smell of VP in the morning! Smells like power!"

It is nice to be connected to my Brothers and Sisters on such a deep and therapeutic level.

The aromas of our experiences are like music, touches us like nothing else, it is part of our deepest makeup, can transcend and transform.

Woodfin, I hope you don't mind me adding something from an aural standpoint:
Years ago, I was standing in the staging lanes at Maple Grove. The only car in the lanes was the Lydon and Johnson Hemi 'Cuda. It was the only car at the track running at the time, no driver or anyone near it.
I stood behind it, I could see the tach reading 1800 rpm's. Smelling that race gas and listening to that idle was awesome! I could've stood there for hours!

Dave, such things are our soul touching music.

MANY times when I am alone at the shop I will fire up the Super 10 and just listen to that super stocker idle.

Man O Man, what fine music.

My wife oftentimes takes a big whiff of my shirt collar when I come in from the garage...says she loves the smells of oil, grease, 2-stroke exhaust, etc.
My personal favorite is oil that's been run in the race car and smells like burned VP. And gear oil...it's an acquired taste!

The gear oil comment is an example of taking the bitter with the sweet :)
