Live from Las Vegas

Back in Las Vegas for the national event followed by the spring divisional rain out race Wednesday and then the regular points meet. Pitting went very smooth. was 44th in line and was pitted within 1/2 hour. We're pitted with our good friend Cal and MaryAnn Method as well as Bobby DeArmond. Tech day tomorrow. I'll try to get some pictures. Bobby got a new batch of t-shirts. He's had lots of requests for them. Almost time to head out for Pizza.

Bob, is there any truth to the rumor that Bill 'red man 'Floyd has been relieved of his duties? Sometimes it's hard to separate fact from fiction ?

Re: Live from Las Vegas

It appears to be true. He was not pitting. I'm told he will be in Vegas at the divisional working for the track. Not nhra.

Very cool to see this shirt still being desired! I still have one of the old ones in the bag. Still impressive to me!

I broke out my Bobby D. "First Stocker in the 9's" T-Shirt a couple of weeks ago at the Dutch - while Barton and Holbrook were trying to be the first into the 7's.

It turned out to be quite the conversation piece.

Dilcher said put him down for one of the new batch of T-shirts because the one Meador gave him he used it when his motor blew up at Vegas to catch the oil drippings !

Re: Live from Las Vegas

It took me 15 years of work to get a time ticket that looked like the one on the Bobby's shirt. When I got the ticket and saw the numbers you would have thought I was the first one in the "Nine's" by my display of happiness.

Then the always present haunting thought as you drive back to you pits, I'm pretty sure Bobby had the same thought. If we change this or that on the car it should be faster! What Bobby and Gary did was nothing short of remarkable, congrats again. Do the Shirts come in big boy sizes?

We will be watching y'all on live timing at the "Rock" so good luck to all and go fast.

Honestly who can I contact to get one of those shirts? I missed out the first time. The 4 days in may video makes it even more impressive. There were allot of racers running 10.0's that weekend.

I can't think of anyone who wouldn't want one of these shirts !

Bob , pretty good turnout of Canadians considering the dollar difference. Even ones from New Brunswick ! And even after 5000+ kilometres the Howes still lose long distance award to a Swede.

I hope morning conditions are like that all of next week, and not like that later post you put up!!!! Next Wednesday won't get here fast enough....thanks Bob for that info, and sorry for the red bulb (when it's time for eliminations, you'll be right on I bet), but congrats on your effort and keep it up to both you Bob & Charlene! :)

Elimination day is upon us. After a long day with Charlene running 4 rounds in the combo today should be quite relaxing with only one round of eliminations schedule. Present conditions 64.9T 61.5H 27.75BP 3295DA. We are going to be called to the lanes at 7:15 with racing starting at 7:45. Just about time to warm up.

Round one in the books after a rain delay. Charlene and I slipped thru first round. Now to relax the rest of the day. I'll take some pictures and post them later.

Re: Live from Las Vegas

Ray crashed during the 2nd round of Comp qualifying yesterday.

From DRC:
Quote:

LAS VEGAS -- Travis Gusso, Sioux Falls, SD., and Ray Skillman, Greenwood, Ind., were involved in an incident during the second qualifying session for Competition Eliminator during the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series portion of the NHRA Toyota Nationals. Gusso and Skillman's cars went out of control past the finish line and both came to a stop in the sand trap. Gusso exited the car under his own power. Skillman was extracted from his car by Safety Safari and was alert and responding to commands. Skillman was transported to University Medical Center of Southern Nevada for further evaluation.
Also...
Quote:

Left Lane: Travis Gusso Runs 8.606/157.23/-0.574, Now #12; D/SM Index: 9.18, Prior Best: 8.715/156.64/-0.465, Was #18
Right Lane: Ray Skillman Runs 7.732/174.05/-0.648, Now #5; E/AA Index: 8.38, Prior Best: 8.006/171.58/-0.374, Was #21

Skillman makes a decent pass and improves but has problems at the end of the run. He makes a hard move to the left, hits the wall and the car rolls. It lands on the wheels and the throttle sticks. It looks like he hits Gusso at some point, then goes into the sand followed by Gusso. According to NHRA officials both drivers are out of their vehicles.

Day 3 of the Las Vegas Nationals. Temps supposed to get into the 80's today so it will be a beautiful day for racing. Hopefully Charlene and I can go some rounds. Sorry for the lack of pictures but the internet from about 10 on is so slow probably due to lots of usage. Present conditions 62.2T 65.3H 27.87BP 3074DA. Schedule shows 2 rounds today.

Racing over for us. Charlene had a great race but just came up short. Time to shop for a new helmet and have a couple of cold beers. Just no internet here. Takes a minute to load classracer! LOL To the RV park in the morning.
