Happy Birthday Tom Gould

I want to wish Happy 71st birthday to a good friend and a fine racer, Tom Gould. Tom has been driving the same car in Stock for almost 40 years. Thats right I said 40 years. We were sitting at Mooresville over the weekend looking at all the high dollar motorhomes and stacker trailers, and Tom was telling me how he flat towed his Corvair around 30K mikes in the early 70's. His tow vehicle I believe was a 68 big block Caprice.
We had dinner at Applebees on Sat. night. The steaks were great, the beer was cold, and the scenery was FABULOUS.
The next time you see Tom in the lanes, go over say hi, and take a look at The Gray Ghost Corvair. Mike

Congrats Tom.
You are an inspiration.
71 already. Norene & still owe you a dinner from your 70th.
You caused us some grief in the early 70's (you always seemed to have that extra tenth or two when you needed it) but now we can all just enjoy being friends.

See ya at the Rock.

Somebody ought to come up with spark plug shaped candles for us automotive enthusiasts!

A heartfelt thanks to all. Mike and I were sitting there talking and he asked me how many miles were on the car. I said 66K but 30k of that was flat towing in 72-74( I didn't think to unhook the speedometer).

Michael B., I only walk a mile now. Have to save the clutch leg. LOL.

For those who are not as old as Bobby and I, in 1972 I beat Bobby by one round for the Division 2 Stock Championship. In 1973 he beat me by one round for the Championship. Those were great years. Back then, there were no reaction or 60 foot times. The first car to the finish line won.

For those of you new to class racing, it's not just about the few seconds you are on the track. It's also about the time you spend with old friends, new friends, and the people you meet at every race.

Danny, I'll see you at Darlington. Everyone else, I'll see you at the Rock.

I saw that Corvair a couple of years ago in Columbus and thought, sure stockers are Way Cool, but this stocker is Wicked Way Cool! (For those of you who have never been to Maine, feel free to ask for a translation from Earle Holt).

You kids. That's all you ever think about.
Then you go to the races and wonder why your car breaks!

(Sorry, I couldn't help it! I guess you shouldn't have "that" problem this year.)

Happy 71st. I remember those years. I looked at the Vair and Bobbys car a few times. Always great to see people older than me still at it. Makes me feel kinda young, well almost. Hope to see you again soon

Happy Birthday Tom! You're a great friend and competitor. The Gray Ghost is a great looking car. Wishing you many more miles.

First time I ever saw the Gray Ghost was at Maple Grove, probably the Dutch Classic. It was one of my favorite cars. To this day I can look at the V/S Corvair and say, "Now THAT'S what Stock Eliminator is all about!"
