The all time winner is the track in Acton Montana. Make a left turn at Billings, drive for about 30 miles until you reach the edge of the earth (which happens to be 5 miles down a gravel road).

Runner UP honors goes to Walla Walla dragstrip, we went to a National Open there a couple of years ago, it's down a side road, we got there in the middle of the night and there wasn't so much as a 25watt light bulb marking the entrance. We were starting to think that we had gone on the wrong weekend. Trucks and trailers were driving aimlessly up and down the road trying to figure out how to get in.

The other funny thing about Walla Walla is that if you turn right instead of left at the end of the track, you are on an active runway. Someone did it, we thought it was funny, apparently the FAA didn't.

Thanks for the directions Jim! Lol! Dad and I are planning on going to Acton for the national open and on google earth it did look like it was pretty much at the end of the world. Haha!

John is right about Scribner Neb as well. That place was literally in the middle of the corn field.

While on vacation in Aruba, it was an adventure finding the dragstrip.
No street signs, goats in the road ,some pretty rough dirt roads.

Maui HI dragstrip in the middle of a sugar cane field. The track then was open 1 Saturday a month and followed the bright lights in the field to find it. I was accused of taking vacation to the island based on when the track was open. I took the 5th

Great place! Back in the day, they had a big dial instead of a tree, when both cars staged the dial woud start at zero and sweep around back to zero. If you left before it got back to or past zero, it was a red light. So it basically showed your reaction time. Never seen it anywhere else.

Brewer's Drag Strip
Sharpsburg, NC
Outlaw,unsanctioned 1/8 mile track.
Starting line covered by a large carport like structure. Track runs downhill and very obvious. My car would run close to a tenth faster due to downhill compared to other tracks in the area.

Found this track as I was driving to Mount St. Helens in Toutle, Wa. 4 years ago. 1/8 outlaw track.

http://www.riverdaleraceway.com/

There was about 10 or 12 of us there that day. No return road. 2 or 3 pair go down the track, turn around and wait off to the right side until the starter waves a white flag. Then drive back to the starting line/ pit area. What a hoot.

Yes and when something bad happens you have a front row seat and because of the cars and people who they let run there it is often.

HA HA HA, I live about 7 miles from that place. Unless you lived here, can't imagine why anyone would come here. I remember a phone conversation with Alex Dysenko (rip old friend), said he and some guys went there for some kind of match race. Said it was one of the worst tracks he ever raced on. Can't disagree.

It is off a major state highway, somewhat. Yeah middle of nowhere, apt description. We go there (been a couple years) to test and find the bugs in new cars.

I nominate North Star Dragway in Denton TX for easiest to see from the highway but hardest to get to!

I vote Aruba too. All I knew is was the other end of the island. I couldn't have found it if I hadn't stopped on the side of the road to read a map and had a race car on a trailer pass me. I followed him in what seemed like a ten mile full circle and about the time I figured he was just cruising around and not headed there he turned into the track.

Santa Pod was tough, maybe for big races they have signs but not early spring test and tunes.

Redding is way out back of the airport, signs aren't real obvious.

Is this the same track I remember hearing about years ago that people called Freedom? Seems there was some gates along the track they had to open occasionally and let returning cars through?

Lebanon Valley Dragway at 2 AM on a foggy night !
Track is right next to the highway and all that marks it late at night is about a 40 watt light bulb ! Driven right past it occasionally.

Yep, it is in Freedom, IN. I believe it is closed down now, but I went and raced there a couple times and it was NOT easy to find...had to go way back into the woods, over a 1 lane bridge, and then coming in the gate wait for the car in the burnout box to finish the burnout so you don't hit the rear quarter of the car on the way in. Grass strip all the way down the middle, and not a ton of shutdown. I've heard stories of cows from the nearby pasture getting out and in the shutdown area. It was a fun track, definitely a throwback type of track! As far as the gates, when I raced there it didn't have that anymore I don't think...but I only raced there in the last 5 years so I don't know what it was like before that.

First time i went there was for a National Open and was arriving there at night. Thinking maybe they'd have lights on to help find the place easier. Drove by the street twice before noticing a stacker trailer turning down a street and didn't possibly think there would be a track at the end of lol.

Sanair....lost in dairy cow country....stopped to ask for directions....nobody speaks
English.....we don't speak French...

One Guy who looks like Alfred E. Newman keeps saying exeeet,exeeet.....sen de sen... ?add Heavy French accent.... HUH?

Get back on highway.....see race car transporter on overpass....jam on brakes and exit....chase him....He stops...he's lost too......!

Look up on pole where we stopped....sign says Sanair....with an arrow.....found it....Yea !

That was 1970..

Maple Grove after dark coming in from the opposite direction off Bowmansville Rd a couple years ago.....that was not fun either....
A farmer was riding a tractor and his headlights lit the road sign that I recognized.....Whew......

Island Dragway entry road is almost unrecognizable by people not familiar with it....They used to put a temporary sign out on Rt 46 on racedays....

I'll add Sumerduck Dragway in Va. Hooked great, pretty decent pit area, but a one lane road thru what most would think a national forest, and bang , it pops out. Shutdown area there will work your brakes out !! I enjoyed racing there all 3 times, regardless.

Re: Top 10 "can't find" drag strips Boondocks Dragway

Late 70's or early 80's somewhere in the Peoria, IL area. AHRA points race was scheduled for Boondocks Dragway. When we got there AHRA tech director Vance Brady was standing by a muddy road that went through a field. The previous night's rain had made it impassable, so the race was canceled. Never got to see the track, not visible from the highway.
